Welcome to this Yoga Nidra non-sleep deep rest practice for awakening creativity and creative inspiration.

You may wish to have a journal or notepad ready to record ideas at the end of this meditation.

Make yourself comfortable lying on your back or sitting up supported,

Making a relaxed space with whatever you need to feel as comfortable as possible.

Getting ready to do nothing,

Simply resting.

This is an opportunity to allow your body to rest and your mind to rest,

So that messages or inspiration may have space and stillness to be seen,

Felt or heard.

Gently close your eyes when you are ready and take a deep breath and as you breathe out begin to let go of tension in your body and in your mind.

In the practice which follows you are going to develop the feeling of deep relaxation in the body.

It is not necessary to deliberately relax your muscles,

Simply develop the feeling of relaxation.

It is like the feeling you have just before sleep when relaxation becomes deep,

But try to keep yourself completely awake for this practice.

During this practice you are functioning on the levels of hearing and awareness and the only important thing is to follow the voice.

You must not try to intellectualize or analyze the instructions,

As this may disturb your mental relaxation.

Simply follow the voice and if thoughts come to disturb you from time to time,

Just notice them,

But allow them to pass by.

Become aware now of any sensations on your skin.

Notice the pressure of your body resting on the surface beneath you.

You can feel pressure on different parts of your body in varying degrees.

Notice if you can become aware of all of the points of pressure at once.

Notice any sensations within the body.

No need to assess or analyze anything,

Just noticing.

Now notice any scent in the room.

Become aware of any scent or smell in this moment.

Now notice any taste in your mouth.

Become aware of any taste in this moment.

Now become aware of sounds in the distance.

Notice sounds outside the building.

Gradually bring your attention to closer sounds,

To sounds inside the building.

Become aware of the sound of your breathing.

Now keeping your eyes closed,

Develop awareness of the room that you are in.

Visualize the walls,

The ceiling,

The floor,

The furniture in the room.

Visualize your body resting in the room,

In that space.

Become aware of the existence of your physical body resting in space.

Total awareness of your body resting in total stillness,

In space.

This is the time to repeat your resolve for this meditation,

Also called your sankalpa in yoga nidra.

The resolve for this meditation is,

I awaken creativity and receive creative inspiration.

If it is inspiration for a specific thing or area that you seek,

Hold this in your heart as you repeat the resolve in your mind three times.

I awaken creativity and receive creative inspiration.

The resolve you make in yoga nidra is bound to come true in your life.

Now you will move your awareness through different parts of the body.

The awareness will jump from part to part.

Please repeat mentally the name of each part and simultaneously become aware of that part of the body.

The practice begins with the right hand,

The right hand thumb,

Second finger,

Third finger,

Fourth finger,

Fifth finger,

Palm of the hand,

Back of the hand,

The wrist,

The lower arm,

The elbow,

Upper arm,

The shoulder,

The underarm,

The right ribs,

The right waist,

The right hip,

The upper leg,

The knee,

Lower leg,

Ankle,

Heel,

The sole of the right foot,

The top of the foot,

The big toe,

Second toe,

Third toe,

Fourth toe,

Fifth toe.

Now move your awareness to your left hand and left hand thumb,

Second finger,

Third finger,

Fourth finger,

Fifth finger,

Palm of the hand,

Back of the hand,

The wrist,

Lower arm,

Upper arm,

The shoulder,

The left ribs,

Move your awareness now to the back of your shoulders,

Right shoulder,

The right buttock,

Left buttock,

The spine.

Move now to the top of the head,

Top of the head,

The right eyebrow,

Left eyebrow,

The eyebrow center,

Right eyelid,

Left eyelid,

The right eye,

Left eye,

Right ear,

Left ear,

Right cheek,

Left cheek,

Nose,

Upper row of teeth,

Lower row of teeth,

Upper lip,

Lower lip,

Chin,

Jaw,

Throat,

Right collarbone,

Left collarbone,

Right side of the chest,

Left side of the chest,

Upper abdomen,

Lower abdomen,

The whole of the front of the body,

The whole of the right leg,

The whole of the left leg,

The whole of the right arm,

The whole of the left arm,

The whole of the back,

The whole of the front,

The whole of the head.

The whole of the body together,

The whole of the body together,

Gently move your attention to your spine now,

Bring awareness to your tailbone,

Move awareness inside your tailbone,

Allow your awareness to move inside the tailbone,

Then allow it to move up through the center of the spine,

Up through the lower spine,

Middle spine,

Upper spine,

All the way up to the top of the neck.

Allow awareness now to move down from the top of the neck,

Down the spine through the upper spine,

Middle spine,

Lower spine,

Down to the tip of the tailbone,

Moving through the center of the spine again,

Up from the tailbone,

Up to the top of the neck,

Then from the top of the neck,

Down through the spine to the tip of the tailbone,

Next you will coordinate this focus up and down the spine with each breath cycle,

No need to change the rhythm of your breathing,

Just allow it to be natural,

Simply allow awareness to travel with the breath,

When you inhale move awareness up the spine,

Exhale down the spine,

Awareness moving up the spine and down the spine with each breath in and out,

Begin counting back from 27 to 1 like this,

27 inhaling up the spine,

27 exhaling down the spine,

26 inhaling up,

26 exhaling down,

25 inhaling up,

25 exhaling down and so on,

If you lose count that's fine just start again at 27 and count back down to 1,

Moving now from the focus of the breathing and the spine to bring your awareness to the lower abdomen in an area about 2 inches below your navel,

Focus your awareness now on that area about halfway between your navel and the pubic bone,

This area is also known as the sacral chakra,

The creative energy center of the body,

Place all your focus on this small area,

Maintain that awareness on the small part of your body,

Just that area,

You may notice some new sensations as your energy focuses here,

Maintain the focus,

Focused awareness,

Now let go of that focus and expand your awareness out to your entire body,

Your whole body is now the focus of your awareness,

Awareness of the whole body,

All of the body at once,

Maintain this open awareness of the whole body,

You may experience new sensations as you expand your awareness out to include the entire body,

Expand it,

Awareness,

Now bring your awareness back in,

Bring your awareness back to focus on the specific area below the navel again,

Focusing on that energy center for creativity,

Creativity,

Focused awareness of the area beneath the navel only,

Focused awareness,

Now leaving that focused awareness and widen your awareness out to expand and encompass the whole body again,

Bring your attention to the entire body,

Expanded awareness of the whole body,

Expanded awareness now out even further,

Relaxed and open,

Now moving on from that focus and now you will allow yourself to visualize images,

A number of different images will be mentioned,

Simply notice what arises from your memory or your imagination,

Just watching with detached awareness,
