Hello,
And welcome.
In this meditation,
We're going to go on a journey of exploration,
Exploration of ourself,
Exploration of who we are,
Exploration of our identity.
This meditation is going to be done with the eyes open,
With a soft gaze.
So first,
Find a comfortable seated position,
And take a deep breath with me.
Just relax into this moment.
Take another deep breath,
And one more deep breath.
Now with your eyes open,
I want you to look at an object in front of you,
Any object.
But I want you to really see this object.
It's too easy to stare at something or someone and then sort of zone out,
Get lost in your thoughts,
Get lost in your head.
But I want you to look at this object and really examine it with curiosity and wonder.
Now bring your awareness to the distance between you and the object you're looking at.
Maybe that means you bring your awareness to the distance between you and that object in a straight line.
Maybe that means you bring your awareness to the space around you and the space around this object and the space between.
Just keep your focus here between you and this object.
Beautiful.
Now I want you to flip your attention onto itself and search for the one who is looking at this object.
Now this might seem difficult at first.
There is no right or wrong way to do this.
So instead of trying harder or beating up on yourself because you can't,
Just search for the observer.
And this should be a quick process.
As you look at the object,
You view the distance between you and the object and you quickly turn your awareness onto itself,
Looking for the one who is looking.
It should be quick,
Like a snap of a finger.
Use the snap of my finger as a cue to turn your awareness onto itself and search for the one who is looking.
Now maybe through this experiment,
Through this journey,
You found it's quite difficult to find the observer.
And what does this tell us?
What new insight and wisdom does this teach us?
It teaches us that there is no observer.
That there is no self that is looking at an object.
There is no distance between the observer and the object that's being looked at.
Too often we become cemented in certain identities or certain views of ourselves.
But if we take time to really look for the thing we believe ourselves to be,
We can see it's virtually impossible.
So take this knowledge into the rest of your day and into the rest of your life.
When you find yourself clinging to a specific version of yourself that you feel like you need to be and take a moment and search for the observer,
You'll find that there's really no one there.
And that you're simply connected to everything around you.
This opens the doors to unlimited possibilities of who you can be and what you can do.
So the next time you find yourself playing a character that you no longer want to play,
Flip your awareness onto itself and look for the looker.
I want to thank you for joining me today for this exploration and journey into looking for ourself.
I hope you have a wonderful day.
Thank you
