One of the hardest parts about meditating is sitting down to actually do so.
Our minds love to present reasons why we should be doing something else.
And then we fall into this trap of,
Okay,
But first I need to do this and then that and you get the point.
We start to prioritize other things over our practice simply because our minds are really great at convincing us that we should be doing that other thing.
This problem with not being able to make it to the cushion is known as laziness.
Not laziness in the traditional sense,
But laziness in the sense that we don't see it as a priority and it gets knocked further and further down the list.
Over the next few days,
I'll be offering four gems to combat laziness and to support you as you develop a consistent practice.
Okay,
So as a lover of aesthetics and all things cozy,
The advice that I love the most is to create a space that you want to return to.
It could be a small nook in your home or it could be a whole room dedicated to your practice.
I know people who create altars and shoe boxes,
So really whatever is accessible to you.
Now begin to fill that space with things that bring you joy and peace.
Fill it with the things that you love.
Maybe you're really into candles,
So you have lots of tea light candles in this space ready for whenever you're ready to light one.
Or if there's an essential oil that wakes up your mind,
Give it a home in this space.
Adorn it with flowers,
Images,
And trinkets that inspire your practice.
If there's a text that you're reading that also ignites your practice,
Welcome that into this space as well.
I love texture and patterns,
So maybe your meditation cushion is made of crushed velvet.
Fill the space with your flavor of beauty.
Treat this space as an offering to your practice and as an offering to you.
Make it a paradise that you'll want to return to again and again.
So if you already have a dedicated space to practice,
I'd love to hear about it.
If you feel moved to do so,
Share a comment about the beauty you welcome into your space.
If you've been inspired to create a space,
Share what you intend to adorn it with.
Either way,
I'd love to hear how this gem supports your practice.
Until next time.
