Let the day become quieter now.
You don't have to carry it with you any further.
Let the conversations,
The plans,
The little things that went right and the things that didn't.
All begin to loosen their grip as you settle into the softness of your bed.
Feel the pillow beneath your head.
The warmth of covers around you.
And that wonderful feeling of finally having nowhere else to be.
The night belongs to you.
There is no need to look ahead.
Go back over the day.
Or figure out what tomorrow will bring.
For a little while.
The world can carry on without you.
While you slip gently out of it and into your own quiet space.
Take a slow breath in.
And as you breathe out.
Imagine the last few hours of the day falling away from you.
Not all at once,
But gradually.
Like the volume being turned down.
On everything that has been asking for your attention.
And somewhere in that quiet,
Sleep can begin to find you.
Take another comfortable breath in.
And allow yourself to settle a little more deeply into the bed.
There is something lovely about this particular moment of the night.
When you no longer have to move from one thing to another.
You can simply let go.
Feel the weight of your head against the pillow.
And notice how completely it is being supported.
Let your shoulders soften into the mattress.
And allow your arms to become heavy and comfortable.
Your hands can rest wherever they have naturally fallen.
While the rest of your body begins to settle around them.
Your body has been working for you.
All day.
It has carried you from place to place.
Helped you get things done.
Responded to the people around you.
And quietly handled thousands of things you never even had to think about.
Now it can have a few hours for itself.
Let your jaw loosen.
The muscles around your eyes can soften.
And your forehead can become smooth.
If there are still little places in your body holding onto the day.
Simply give them some time.
Often the body releases tension naturally when it realizes there's nowhere else it needs to go.
Allow your stomach to soften beneath the covers.
And let your hips and legs become heavier against the mattress.
Feel the backs of your legs being supported.
Your calves relaxing.
Your feet becoming still.
The whole body can settle at its own pace.
Without needing to arrive anywhere in particular.
Notice your breathing.
It has been with you all day.
Without asking for your attention.
Now you can simply listen to its quiet rhythm for a moment.
The gentle movement of air coming in.
And then leaving again.
But the thoughts come and go in their own strange little way.
Gradually,
The thoughts may begin to loosen their sharpness.
They become less like conversations and more like fragments passing through your mind.
And image here.
A word there.
A memory that doesn't quite belong anywhere.
This is often the point when sleep starts getting closer.
You may notice that your attention isn't as steady as it was a few minutes ago.
Perhaps you just readjust your head on the pillow.
And then forget why.
Maybe a thought begins and disappears before you reach the end of it.
You might hear my voice clearly for a moment and then realize that you've drifted away somewhere else.
Let that happen naturally.
Bring your attention back to the feeling of being in your bed.
Feel the quiet comfort of being completely settled here.
With the warmth of the covers around you.
And the mattress supporting your whole body.
There is something peaceful about having reached the end of the day.
And finally being able to let yourself soften into the stillness.
Your breathing has become easy and unhurried.
Your body is growing heavier and your thoughts are beginning to lose some of their urgency.
As you lie here.
Allow your breathing to become part of the background.
You may notice that it has become slower and quieter.
Without you changing it.
Your face feels softer.
Your shoulders heavier.
And your limbs increasingly still.
The body knows what comes next.
It has its own rhythm for moving from wakefulness into rest.
And you can trust that process without watching it too closely.
There is no particular moment when you need to fall asleep.
It tends to happen gradually,
Almost unnoticed.
Awareness becomes less precise.
Thoughts become stranger and more scattered.
Time loses its importance.
You may stop wondering how long you've been lying here.
You may even forget that you're listening to my voice.
And that's when you can simply let yourself drift.
Everything can become less important now.
The day is behind you.
Tomorrow will still be there when you wake up.
With all its plans and possibilities.
And little things that need your attention.
Tonight is simply a pause.
A quiet space between one day and the next.
And you can stay here for as long as you need.
Perhaps you're already beginning to lose the thread of what I'm saying.
Maybe your eyes feel heavier behind their lids.
Or your thoughts have become so loose that you're no longer sure what you were thinking about a moment ago.
That's the feeling we are looking for.
Not something that you have to create.
But something you can allow.
So let the words become quieter now.
Even if the voice continues.
Let your attention wander.
Let your body sink more deeply into the mattress.
Feel the pillow beneath your head.
And the warmth of the covers around you.
And allow yourself.
To become less aware of everything else.
There's nothing more waiting for you tonight.
For now,
You are here,
Warm in your bed.
Breathing quietly.
Becoming heavier and softer with every passing minute.
And somewhere in this quiet.
Sleep is already beginning to find you.
Let the words fade.
Let the day fade.
And let yourself slip gently into sleep.
