So we've all heard the phrase,
Finding myself.
Immediately we envision someone picking up and starting new in hopes to meet this magical person they wish they've always been but never were.
They start joining courses to restart lessons that they've already learned,
Probably through a lover.
But we're too ignorant to see,
See who they really were.
But maybe we're easier to find than we think.
Maybe we've been hiding in the spaces in the in-between.
Perhaps we can meet ourselves during the time between preparing and arriving.
The unsettled emotions that arise while you anxiously await important news.
The thoughts that trickle in between turning on the tea kettle and taking your first sip.
So what lives in the in-between?
Is it you?
Is that where you can find you?
What happens during the time between will do and doing.
What transpires.
And while you wait for your morning brew,
Who is there to comfort you?
Which version of yourself shows up in those moments?
The in-between is where we show up,
That's where we can see,
Instead of outsourcing to find who we are.
So on a walk to the pub,
Are you wondering about potential lovers or daydreaming about discovering an unknown destination?
After you speak to the barista and wait for your coffee,
Are you noticing what would make the space better?
Or are you admiring the art on the wall?
Are you getting giddy for the day ahead?
When you're online at the store,
What desires and distastes arrive in your mind?
And when you want to hide,
Where do you go?
What do you turn to?
Maybe if we focus more on who arrives in the spaces between all the doing.
We can find just who we are.
Maybe we don't need to be found.
Maybe we've been right here all along.
And the most important part of it all.
Do you like who you see?
