So,

You see that you have a headache.

For example,

And the mind says,

Okay,

Because I did something yesterday,

That's why I have a headache.

So,

We are searching the cause of the headache.

So,

The cause is something I did yesterday and we stop there.

So the journey of the Eastern wisdom says go on finding the ultimate cause.

So it is the body first,

The body head is the part of the body and when head is the part of the body,

Then I am not the body,

So do I have a headache?

So we go on searching through the knowledge where exactly,

What is the ultimate cause of the pain and the suffering.

So time comes,

We find the ultimate cause is the ignorance,

Not knowing the reality.

So when I don't know the reality,

Then the sorrow continues,

The suffering continues in our life.

It's all a part of understanding knowledge,

Knowledge.

So that is why we always talk about the real self,

The reality,

That real self is the ultimate reality,

It is pure consciousness.

So my mind claimed that reality is something outside.

The moment the mind claims the reality is something different than the real self,

We will continue to suffer in sorrow.

So that is the entire journey of the Eastern wisdom.

There are rare people.

You know,

In yoga we say,

You get a lot of powers.

So this is one of your powers.

Ashok is also a technocrat like you Sam,

So he is an engineer.

Yes now,

Engineers can do anything,

You know,

In their lives.

So there was where the Buddha was born.

Buddha was born in Ebbihar,

A native state of,

My native state also,

One of the 29 states in India,

Like US.

So there was another master,

Vachaspati Mishra.

So he wanted to write a commentary on one of the most authentic texts that I have not taken up yet.

So he was so much focused and absorbed.

Every day his wife used to bring him a tea,

Lunch,

And the dinner,

Used to wash it.

He used to see that,

You know,

You see that the way you explain everything was visible,

You were on the cliff,

But mountains and the peak is visible,

But still there is an expensiveness.

Yes,

I was missing you,

David and Jerry.

So you see that expensiveness.

So that is how I'm explaining.

So Vachaspati Mishra was one of the great masters who lived in ninth century,

Almost 1200 years ago.

So you know,

Sometime it happens that you are absorbed in doing work and your honey says,

Hey,

You want tea?

Oh no,

Not at this time.

Let me complete this work.

So the mind from 360 degrees totally absorbed,

Not by an effort.

So this Vachaspati Mishra,

His wife name was Bharmati,

So he was writing a commentary on one of the great texts of yoga.

So for seven years,

It took him seven years to write a commentary and after seven years when the book was finished,

Vachaspati Mishra asked his wife,

Who are you?

Because he was so much absorbed.

Do you see that?

You see the other side of the truth.

When you see the relative truth,

Where you have a label of honey,

Husband,

Wife,

Etc.

But he was so much absorbed that his mind reached to the highest state of consciousness.

He said,

Who are you?

I'm your wife.

I've been taking care of you for the last seven years.

And he said,

Sorry,

I'm extremely sorry.

I was totally absorbed.

So he named the text in the name of his wife.

That is known as Bharmati,

Is one of the great texts where he talks of ignorance.

So this text,

You know,

This text,

Ashtavakra Gita,

That we are taking up is a text,

If I say so,

It is meant for the higher level of seekers.

What it means by the higher level of seekers?

Your mind says,

I have a lot of problem,

Give me meditation.

So I give you a small mantra and I said,

You repeat it.

You return to me,

You say,

No,

It is helping me.

I'm relaxed,

Fairly.

I practice it every day.

That is,

It's the beginning.

It's the beginning of your journey.

You have yet to learn.

And then your mind is constantly in doubt with a lot of conflict and the confusion.

Mind is not mature enough to see the ultimate reality.

The time comes when your mind is naturally focused on the ultimate reality,

That is the real self,

Which is the pure consciousness.

And you have already started living into that.

That means you are the higher level of a seeker.

Why simple reason,

When you are a higher level of a seeker,

Then you only need knowledge,

Understanding,

Awareness to enter into the state of meditation.

You don't need to practice.

So you see that we have many people,

They argue,

Meditation is a non-practice.

Why you are practicing?

It is effortless natural only for the higher level of the seekers,

Not for the lower level of the seekers.

Lower level of the seekers?

Yes,

Do karma yoga.

Here is a mantra.

Do a lot of practices.

To purify the mind and to focus it.

So now see there is another one of the beautiful verse.

What we are studying in the second chapter,

The seeker is narrating his experiences.

He was the highest level of a seeker.

He heard the master and the transformation started taking place while listening.

That is the beauty.

You see that the beauty of the Eastern wisdom.

So what he says,

Aho Vekal Pitam Vishwam Agyana Atma Ibhasati Rupyam Shukthu Farni Raju Vari Surya Kariyata Now he is explaining his own experiences of meditation.

What his experiences?

This universe appears in me.

Does this remote say that universe appears in me?

In earth,

Matter,

Unguisciousness.

I have defined couple of times what exactly is matter according to the Eastern wisdom.

It does not know itself and it does not know others.

Anything in the world,

Including the body,

The mind,

Intellect,

Ego also.

They all come under the category of inert.

Now I am pure consciousness.

I know myself.

I'm speaking at the same time.

I also know you all.

Can I live into that state of awareness?

What prevents me?

Mind moves into the lower consciousness and when it moves into the lower consciousness,

We enter into ignorance.

So that simple translation first.

Oh,

He says,

Wow,

The universe appears in me because I am aware of you.

So you appear in me.

See that the universe appears in me conceived through ignorance.

Just as how?

So he gives three examples.

You have seen that there is a silver that appears in the mother of pearl,

A snake in the room and the water in the sunbeam.

So the way I see the Miraz means the water in a desert.

The way I see the silver shining appears in a conch shell in an ocean looking from the far.

The way I see the snake in the rope,

They do not exist.

Same way the entire universe do not exist.

They simply appear.

The ultimate cause.

That is my experience.

Oh master.

Oh,

So now see that if we have understood.

There is another verse we have already studied his experience.

He is narrating his experience just as waves foam and the bubbles are not different from water.

So all this which emanated from the oneself is no other than oneself.

It is all demands and awareness.

So that awareness dispels the ignorance and what is that ignorance?

It is only because of ignorance I see you and me are different.

There is a standpoint of the wave in an ocean.

So when the wave looks at ocean,

Wave looks at the water and the wave looks at the other wave.

That is one standpoint of this knowledge.

See that.

So the wave is looking at the wave means I am separate.

I am different from you.

Stand by color by shape by weight by height by shape and long list.

I enter into the confusion.

What about the standpoint from an ocean?

Come on wave.

You are part of me.

Now you are an ocean.

See that you are an ocean.

You are looking at the wave.

Come on.

What we see we all are human beings.

Don't fight.

Don't enter into conflict.

We all are human beings from the standpoint of an ocean.

But the highest standpoint water.

Remove the water where is an ocean?

Remove the wave where is an ocean?

Where is a wave where is an ocean?

So the very existence is water.

If there is no water there is no ocean there is no wave.

Now place yourself that you are the water you are the existence.

What appears outside is different.

It is not.

Essentially it is water.

This is what he explains.

Can I have that experience?

You know we were talking a lot of other experiences of vision and colors and beautiful experiences and especially in Kundalini we undergo variety of experiences.

We forget.

Do you know what we forget?

We are an experiencer.

We can never be an experience.

The experiences constantly changes.

The seer behind that experiences remains the same.

So he explained the same thing that that is my experience just as a cloth is one thread the same this existence is woven from the being from the consciousness from the real self.

You can also reflect on being and becoming.

Being becoming being never changes.

Becoming is constantly changing.

So there are two parts of the existence.

So wherever you see becoming changes take your mind away from that go behind that you will find the being.

This is what he is saying.

All names and forms.

Not true like this silver in a conch shell.

Have you seen sometime you are in a beach and you see the conch shell.

Shell is open and the water is there it shines like a silver.

It is not silver.

So he gives that example.

Very famous example in Eastern wisdom.

And the most famous is the serpent the snake in a rope.

While you are walking in the evening it is a rope but the mind superimpose the image of a snake on the rope.

Fear sorrow suffering.

Same way the mind superimposes.

Superimposes what?

He is my honey she is my sibling and this is my money.

Nothing more than it is all superimposition.

Third example the water that appears in a mirror in a hot sun desert.

I can see you can see that I can see the water and the waves together.

It makes sense.

Water unchanging waves changing.

Pay attention being and becoming being.

Water no change in the water.

Being becoming waves ocean river pond.

Waves can undergo modifications but the water not.

So there is something in us.

So constantly maintain your awareness what is that which does not undergo any modification you have found the real self.

See snake in a rope snake is superimposed.

So I have to remove the ignorance what I did.

I put the throw the light on that rope and I find it is a rope it is not a snake.

So I throw the light focused awareness on the world outside to discover the ultimate reality I find the real self.

There is nothing more than that.

So look at the seeker is narrating the experiences.

Oh this is my experience.

Wow.

Just by listening to you I enter into the state of meditation.

It is here and now.

What three examples indicates.

So what happens it is a movement of movement from ignorance to knowledge.

What work I have to do how many practices I need to know your name location of your house.

You see the practice part is gone.

I am a qualified seeker practice part is gone.

It is all whether I know it or I do not know it.

It's a movement from ignorance to knowledge,

Action.

Now see many masters and especially the Shankara and his many students who became great master I was talking about Vachaspati Mishra also.

So you see that they put the right reasoning you have to think over it.

I want to know my real self.

Where it is within me.

Where it is now here and now.

Where it is when it is available 24 by 7.

As long as I want to know my real self it is available 24 by 7.

What I have to do.

I used to frame a question how long it takes you to reach to your house from your workplace 10 minutes 15 minutes 1 hour 2 hours.

How long it takes you to reach to yourself.

You awareness you consciousness.

How long it takes you to reach to yourself.

So action is not required.

Action means practice is not required.

This is what he is pointing to.

He directly says no you cannot do the practice but until you are a qualified seeker.

Why he says now see the understanding by reasoning.

The way we work in the science in the laboratory.

So we put the reasoning outside to find out the cause and effect relationship we reach to a particular application.

So now what he is saying.

That action is opposite.

What is opposite of action?

Inaction I act or I do not act.

I speak or I do not speak.

They are opposite to each other.

Same way what is opposite to the knowledge?

Can action be opposite to the knowledge?

No.

Are you getting it?

Action in action they make one pair knowledge and ignorance they make the other pair.

Ignorance cannot be removed by action.

What I said before to know your name what practices I have to do.

You need not to do any practice here is my name know it.

See I did not know ignorance now I know your name.

So knowledge and ignorance makes one pair action and inaction makes one pair.

So when you are a qualified seeker what happens?

You are vigilant you are extraordinary aware that this mind is not moving to perform any action.

Then what happens?

The moment you start the meditation body naturally becomes still.

Not like those hatha yoga teachers and the practitioners.

With the due respect that is another approach.

So you force your body to be still and it cannot become still.

So you say that let me do 50 pastures then you start walking on your hands head down legs up and still that state is not reached.

That is one approach.

But here the approach is the knowledge.

You cannot attain knowledge by performing an action.

The moment you start performing the action to acquire a knowledge you have gone down.

Mind is already out.

And action is always defective.

So this seeker is saying I have that experience.

Where is that experience?

Come on this body breath mind sense organs all these thoughts I have already seen that it is just an appearance.

So that mind settles in my essential nature.

That is what Patanjali says,

Tadad rishtu,

Swarupi yavasthanam.

So what happens then?

Then you have an expensive consciousness.

You know that you are that consciousness behind all the labels of your gender,

Of your name,

Of your age,

Of your height,

Of your profession.

They just appear on the consciousness the way the waves appear on the water.

The way now he says you know the wave appears on the water.

Okay the way the snake appears on the water on the rope means what snake does not exist.

This name form only one consciousness exists.

I entered into that experience and the third see that third example he says you know the shining sun inside the conch shell appears as a silver but it does not exist.

I am so rich,

I am poor,

I am stressed,

I am so and so they all appear like you know all glitters something there is all glitters are not good something like all that glitters is not good.

So what that glitters?

Look at it how smart I am,

How big I am.

So you are referring to the body.

See that?

How rich I am?

Rich by the wealth.

See that?

So that identification drops completely.

Those identification master this seeker is saying well like snake on a rope,

Like glittering,

Like waves in an ocean they do not exist.

So it does not mean that whatever the money you have in your account you send to me.

That does not mean that is a material level at a transactional reality but at present we are talking of the absolute reality and the consciousness.

Let us see how it helps us how this verse helps us to go into the practice of meditation so called practice is a non-practice.

Close your eyes my friend.

These are closed.

Why?

You apply the knowledge at every point.

Sense organs gives me the knowledge of the world but it cannot give me the knowledge of the real self.

Hence I close my eyes.

This is a knowledge practice if I say so.

See that?

Every point practice is not required so-called practice.

Only what is required?

Awareness.

Very good.

You are aware of the body.

You are looking at the body from the top of the head to the toes.

At the same time you are aware you are not the body.

That much is required.

So when you do hatha yoga it takes 10 years to discover that you are not the body.

So in this path you apply the knowledge.

See that?

So when you are not the body the mind is aware will the mind move the body?

You are not the body.

You are not your neighbour.

You don't enter into a neighbour's house.

Body is a neighbour.

See that?

I'm using different words to help that knowledge reveal in you.

Wonderful.

So still we go little deeper.

Deeper means we drop the identification of the mind with the body.

So look at the neck joint.

Be there.

Where?

On the neck joint.

At the same time you are aware you are not the body hence you are not the neck joint.

But you have an experience of sensation,

Comfortable and steadiness.

You are not none of these experiences also.

Why these experiences,

Changes?

Apply the principle in your mind that whatever is changing is becoming and whatever is becoming can never be me.

So awareness is required.

To attend that simple awareness we need to be a qualified seeker.

Look at those teachings of our great masters.

Clarity is there.

So after you experience the sensation being comfortable and steadiness what is behind that of the space?

Was the space not there before?

Yes.

What was blocking?

Ignorance.

What is that ignorance?

The mind has deep conditioning that I am the body.

Body is me.

I am the body.

See that.

That is what we are working through the knowledge.

So move the mind and the shoulder joints.

Be there.

So you are aware you are not the body.

Still you are looking at the shoulder joints.

Still you experience the sensation,

Comfortable and steadiness.

And in that state of your experience the mind naturally moves within,

Moves within what?

It has left the waves.

Oh yes.

With your water.

Now I know that knowledge is required.

Nothing more,

Nothing less.

Well look at the hip joint.

Be there.

Now we are using this step to recognize the ignorance,

Drop that ignorance and allow the mind to live into that extraordinary awareness.

Finished.

Hip joint.

Being there.

Being there.

I did not say becoming there.

See that.

So when you are a qualified seeker you instantly absorb what the teacher is saying.

That is why we say that we have a very intimate,

Intimate should be taken positively,

Intimate relationship between the teacher and the student.

That helps the teacher to pass on that knowledge.

Sensation,

Comfortable,

Steadiness and mind says I am aware,

I am conscious,

Here is a consciousness,

Here is a space which I could not see before,

Now I see it.

As behind every wave there is water behind the experience of sensation,

Comfortable and steadiness,

There is water,

The consciousness pure.

Entire body.

Knowledge I am not the body.

Knowledge translates into awareness that says I am not the body.

Very good.

What is your experience?

Sensation,

Comfortable,

Steadiness.

For the highest level of a seeker that experience of sensation,

Comfort and steadiness is a glitter.

Why?

The seeker in search of the real self.

I am just talking how the knowledge moves the mind.

So I experience not only the sensation,

Comfort and steadiness and the space inside.

Space inside my friend.

Now whatever is changing is appearance,

They do not exist permanently,

They are not existence,

Apply this knowledge.

So the mind will drop the complaint,

I heard a lot of thoughts you know during the practice of meditation.

Let there be.

What comes and goes,

Let them come and go.

You are not becoming,

You are being.

Do you see that knowledge?

Are you in that awareness?

See that.

Are you in that awareness?

I believe you understand the difference between the neighbour and you.

How close the neighbour,

How close the neighbour be,

Still we are not the neighbour.

I am using the word neighbour to awaken to that knowledge.

Most neighbour,

The outermost neighbour is the world outside.

What is in the world?

Our place,

Our gazettes,

Our relations means the people,

The time,

The place,

Objects.

So wherever the mind goes become aware of the change.

Honey changes,

House changing,

Anything,

Everything.

So now you do not want to control the mind,

The mind goes anywhere and you are aware that it is changing,

It is not me.

It is either the wave or the glitter or the snake.

First neighbour,

See that is another way to move into the knowledge and drop the ignorance.

First neighbour,

So mind goes to the first neighbour,

I know everything is changing and whatever is changing is not me,

It is a knowledge,

It is not a practice.

What is that knowledge?

It takes place in awareness.

What is that awareness?

It is consciousness.

I cannot have a knowledge without consciousness,

They both blend together,

They cannot be separated.

Now go to the second neighbour.

Second neighbour is the body,

Physical body,

Look at the physical body from the top to the top.

Move your mind again and again to know.

What you know,

Body is changing,

Yes.

Can it be me?

No.

You are living into that knowledge,

That awareness,

This is what the seeker is narrating the experiences.

Come on,

Disappears but it is not.

Disappears but it is not.

Enjoy,

Play,

What to play?

Move the mind and the body,

Enjoy the stillness and even if it is moving,

Enjoy the moving.

Why?

Body is constantly changing,

It is like a wave or a snake,

It is not me.

You experience sensation,

Relaxation,

Stillness,

Very good enough,

Good but it is not me even if it experiences sensation,

Relaxation and stillness.

Even if it is moving,

It is not me.

Look at it.

Two neighbours,

So what happens,

The mind enters into an ignorance,

Mind enters into an ignorance when the mind confuse itself,

This world is not me but definitely I am the body.

That confusion is a part of the ignorance,

So I believe you are aware of both the neighbours.

Aware means,

Awareness means knowledge,

What is knowledge?

It is your experience.

Simple three pointers,

Awareness,

Knowledge,

Experience.

Like you are dropping the ignorance,

Two neighbours,

They interact,

They create a very thick layer of the ignorance.

Now the third neighbour,

Third neighbour is the energy body from outside.

What is this energy body?

Breath.

Really look at the breath,

When you look at the breath,

You experience the breath,

So a word of caution,

Do not change the rate and the rhythm of the breath.

Do not change the rate and the rhythm of the breath.

Yes,

Do not change the rate and why?

Breath is moving on its own,

Why to change?

Another wisdom,

Oh breath is changing,

I cannot be the breath,

It is a part of becoming,

It is a wave,

It is not me,

It cannot be me.

Continue.

You see that now another part of the ignorance that pops up in our mind,

You are aware of the breath and suddenly the mind says become aware of the body,

Body is also changing,

No problem,

The mind jumps onto the body,

Mind jumps onto the things of the world outside,

No problem at all.

Why?

There are three neighbours,

This is not me,

Mind jumps because of the past impressions,

Let it happen,

I am none of them.

The talking of the six neighbours and me,

Six waves and me,

Six different types of the snake and me,

Six different glitters and me,

It just came to my mind,

Flashed.

So now what happens,

The mind is,

I am not asking you to focus on the breath,

So that will become the practice,

I am not asking you to change the rate and the rhythm of the breath,

That will become the practice.

What is the opposite of practice?

Non-practice.

What is opposite of knowledge?

Ignorance.

What we are doing?

We are removing the ignorance.

These in the ignorance are one pair,

Clearly understood,

So in that field of awareness you have the three neighbours.

So the mind changes and it looks at the body,

Feels some sensation,

Well,

I am not the body,

Body is changing,

I am not the world,

The world is constantly changing,

Look at it.

We have three neighbours,

World outside,

Which mind surely says this is not me,

But because of ignorance it says this body is mine,

Hence I am the body,

Smartphone is mine,

Hence I am the smartphone.

You see we proved the logic wrong,

So yes I am not the body.

Second neighbour,

Third neighbour is the breath,

Energy body.

What is the fourth neighbour?

Mind.

Where the thought occurs,

Thought comes and goes,

Simple thinking.

So you are simply aware of the thoughts,

Feeling,

Emotions,

Sensations,

Let them come,

Even I need not to say let them come and go.

Why the mind is constantly changing?

I am aware that whatever is changing is not me.

The mind says I am crazy,

I am good,

I am bad,

I am rich and poor,

This is just a thought,

I am none of them,

Not affected by them.

See that.

Now these four neighbours interact and they cause a lot of confusion.

Confusion and the conflict leads me to ignorance and I forget my level of awareness drops down.

My master used to say,

I should live in an extraordinary awareness at this moment to see their interaction,

Do not fall into ignorance.

Then we are 100% clear that these four neighbours are neighbours,

There is nothing I can say this is me.

My friends,

The way I see you and I declare I am not you,

You are not me,

The same way I am not the world outside,

First neighbour,

I am not the body,

Second neighbour,

You know neighbour,

You go to deepen ultimate awareness of what the neighbour is,

Very close,

Maybe very dear and still not me.

See that.

That is why I use the neighbour,

Second neighbour,

Third neighbour,

Energy body,

How close it is.

We always explain,

Breath is life,

Life is breath,

But here in Eastern wisdom say that this is not me,

Then comes the mind.

Four neighbours we have covered.

True world is a neighbour,

Body is a neighbour,

Breath is a neighbour,

Mind is a neighbour.

Fifth neighbour,

It is,

You know,

The I thought in the mind,

I am stressed,

I thought in the mind,

In the intellect.

Intellect is not me,

Hence this I thought is also not me.

This is what the seeker experienced,

He narrates his experience.

This I thought,

This is I thought,

Where in the intellect.

Fifth neighbour,

What to do with it,

Do nothing because doing means practice,

Practice is against non-practice.

Here we are removing ignorance,

Knowledge,

Ignorance,

Have one pair,

Understand.

Is there any understanding?

Yes.

How?

Yes,

Knowledge and experience.

So how to recognise when there is a trigger,

I feel relaxed,

Recognise this is I thought,

I am disturbed,

Recognise it is I thought,

And you are different from I thought.

How can you be a thought?

See that,

Just look at it.

So there is a constant interaction between the five neighbours,

They cause a lot of confusion in the conflict,

Puts me into the ignorance and I am not able to see my real self.

How come?

So I thought is there in the intellect,

I am rich,

It has linked I thought,

Linked to the world outside,

See that.

I am handsome,

I thought linked to the body,

I have lot of stamina,

I thought linked to the third neighbour,

Energy body.

My mind is wandering,

My means I am wandering,

I thought linked to the mind.

I am intelligent,

I thought linked to the intellect itself,

See that.

We have millions and trillions of these thoughts,

We forget,

Forgetfulness is ignorance,

Forgetfulness is ignorance my friends.

When there is ignorance,

I see the waves are real,

Water in the mirage is real,

Glitter in the shell is real,

The snake is real.

This is what the seeker is saying,

So just see that you are a seeker like this one who narrates the experiences.

The first neighbour outermost world,

Second body,

Third energy body,

Breath,

Fourth is the mind,

Fifth is the I thought in the intellect,

What about the sixth?

We cannot know it by the mind but we can feel through the experiences,

How?

When you feel stressed,

Anxious,

Yes.

And also when you feel the pleasure,

You feel a sense of pleasure with possessiveness,

We can know this ignorant body,

Then the mind says how?

This food has,

I get satisfaction.

You know the word satisfaction expressed by the mind and the chosen by the intellect comes from this ignorant body.

So the sixth neighbour is the ignorant,

Ignorance neighbour that puts me to the ignorance.

The mind says sensation,

Relaxation,

Stillness,

Very good,

Thank you.
