If you're feeling unsettled,
On edge,
Or you need some soothing,
Then you're in the right place.
I welcome you into this space and together we are going to explore some somatic rocking and swaying.
This type of gentle somatic movement activates the vagus nerve and invites the rest and digest wing of our nervous system to settle.
Guiding us towards a feeling of grounded calm.
So finding a comfortable and supportive position.
This can be done sitting,
Standing,
Or lying on your side.
Whatever is available and accessible for you.
Eyes can be open or closed.
Or even a soft gaze in front of you.
Eyes open,
Can feel steadier if you're standing.
Gently ground in and notice where the body is touching the surface beneath you.
Honouring any sensations here in the body.
Notice parts being held and supported.
And soften into that.
Letting the movement begin small and slow.
And allow whichever part of your body wants to move in any direction.
Rocking and swaying,
Side to side.
Back and forth.
Or in circles.
Perhaps a gentle rock from the hips or sway through the shoulders.
If you're lying down,
It might be a small rock from side to side.
Even the tiniest movement counts.
You choose the dial on this practice.
You can dial it up if you need more movement or have more energy going on.
Or if you prefer a gentle sway or rock,
You can turn the dial down.
It may be that only one part of the body wishes to move.
Such as your head or your hands or arms.
Or it may be the whole body rocking and swaying.
Side to side.
And allowing any soft sighs or sounds to move through the body.
If it feels comfortable for you,
You can introduce south soothing touch.
A hand on your chest or belly.
Looping your hands around your arms or shoulders in a kind of hug.
This kind of touch can send a message of safety to the nervous system.
So allowing the body to rock and sway how it likes.
In your own way.
In your own time.
Remembering a place to return to is wherever the body touches the surface beneath you.
It's always your anchor point.
Walking and swaying in your own zone of comfort.
In a few moments of silence.
You may wish to keep going with this practice for as long as feels right for you.
This is different for everyone at different times.
If you feel complete for now,
You can allow the rocking to fade naturally.
Inviting the movements to become smaller and smaller.
Until you find a settled energy.
Which feels comfortable for you.
Returning to wherever the body touches the surface beneath you.
Feeling back into that.
And if you're still rocking and swaying.
Keep going however feels natural for you.
Those who have slowed the movement down.
We will close our practice here.
And for everyone,
Remembering this track is here for you whenever you need it.
It may be that you're ready to move into rest and sleep.
Or return to your day.
Thank you for your practice.
