As you come before your art, stand in your creative process, engage your artistry alone or with others, and prepare to share your creative spark, this guided meditation offers a moment of attuning and remembering who you are at heart. Perhaps you're standing before an empty canvas. Perhaps you're poised before an empty page. Perhaps you're in a green room readying yourself to take the stage. Perhaps you're alone in your studio or in your favorite spot in nature. Wherever you are, come now and enter your stillpoint for just a few minutes.

Welcome to this meditation,

Preparing to Create.

As you come before your art,

Stand in your creative process,

Engage your artistry alone or with others,

And prepare to share your creative spark,

This meditation offers a moment of attuning and remembering who you are at heart.

Perhaps you're standing before an empty canvas.

Perhaps you're poised before an empty page.

Perhaps you're in a green room,

Readying yourself to take the stage.

Perhaps you're alone in your studio or in your favorite spot in nature.

Wherever you are,

Come now and enter your still point for just a few minutes.

With your eyes open or closed,

Bring your awareness to your breath.

Take three deep breaths in and out,

Breathing first into the top of your lungs,

Then into the middle of your chest,

And finally into the depths of your belly.

Continue breathing normally now,

Allowing your lungs,

Belly,

And abdomen to work naturally.

Attune to your heart now until you can feel its beating.

Bring your focus to this place,

Your inner eyes,

Ears,

And inner touch to this place inside your heart and settle there,

Feeling your way into your heartbeat,

Into your own singular beating,

Repeating and repeating.

If you're feeling anxious or expectant,

If your heart is racing with anticipation,

Simply breathe into it to begin to calm it.

As you do so,

Your mind will follow your heart and become calm as well.

Notice that as you tune your senses to your heartbeat,

It begins to beat more surely.

Your intuition is guiding you to it.

Your intuition is this very centered beating.

You here at the center of yourself is your essential state.

This is the sacred space,

The sanctuary at the center of your being.

So take a few moments now to breathe into this heart center.

In a moment,

I will offer some words to guide you,

But first guide yourself through this space and let your artist heart and your deepest knowing speak to you.

Whatever comes to you,

Whatever feelings or thoughts,

Attune to them,

Accept them,

And let them pass.

I invite you now to follow these words and repeat them to yourself in silence or out loud as the situation permits.

My dear heart,

I draw my inspiration from you.

You and I are one.

You are unique in all the world and you are mine.

Your beating has always,

Is now,

And will forever move and shape me and all of my creativity.

Mine is the courage that is you,

Mon coeur.

I am your clarity,

Ingenuity,

And wisdom.

I know my way forward and I trust this deepest and truest knowing.

I am the peace pulsing in my neck and wrists.

I am the gratitude coursing through my veins.

I am the love that carries my breath and is fed by it.

With this and every artistic expression,

I give birth anew.

I give birth to works of art and to my very self.

You are my inner compass here,

My singular voice,

My sacred song.

You dear heart are ready at a moment's notice for my attuning.

You patiently await my awareness so as to guide me with my breath and through my intention.

Me paused here at the center of myself,

Tuning into the great interior expansiveness of who I am is my natural state.

It exists within and without me in the infinitude of me that joins me with all creation.

I am a born artist,

A life artist.

My life is my greatest work of art.

Everything I experience is for my growth and my use in service to you,

My heart,

Through my art.

As I've known all along,

I know it now and I will always know it.

As I attune to you,

I attune to the heartbeat in everyone and everything.

I attune to all the other creators in my midst and in the world around me.

I attune to all who are on their way to see and hear what it is I choose to bring forth.

All who are ready now to join me in anything I endeavor to make.

My fellow artists,

My fellow audience.

All who are fed and nourished by my following you,

My heart.

As I too am fed and nourished.

When you're ready,

Begin to connect with the space and sounds around you and slowly open your eyes.

If they're already open,

Feel free to open them some more.

Now go forth and do what you love,

What only you can do and do so well.

Really lovely meditation. Truly helped me connect with myself and find the spark that allows me to write (even though I didn't initially feel motivated to today). Thank you!

A moving exercise specifically for artists of all kinds. (I bet anyone whose job or passion calls for self expression and/or communication with the public could benefit from it.) I really appreciate the primary focus being on the heart(beat), as opposed to the breath. It proves to be a rich metaphor for so many things both internal and external over the course of the meditation. One minor quibble: some of the passages to be repeated are too long to serve that purpose; I sometimes found myself racing to comprehend and recite one before the next one started. Useful at any experience level, and bears repeat listens. Personally, I would think this is best used at a quiet time at the very beginning of a project, or when one is blocked in the middle of a long processโ€”not right before going onstage, which is one of the sample situations. It would be way too much info for my brain to take on under that kind of condition.
