In this session, we practice the time-honored method of laughing to release feelings of disappointment and shame. First, we conjure up a recent experience where we got in our own way, felt ashamed or where we disappointed ourselves or someone else. Then we practice freeing these energies with laughter and a light heart. As a physical expression, laughter offers many protective qualities including reducing stress, relieving pain and nourishing our self-awareness. As artists, it is a gift of craft.

Welcome to this meditation,

Releasing your disappointment and shame.

Now for this meditation,

I encourage you to be somewhere where you can be completely unselfconscious and relaxed and open.

Someplace preferably private,

But somewhere where you can be entirely yourself.

And now I welcome you to conjure up a moment in the last 24 hours,

In the last week,

In the last month or months,

Where you really got in your own way.

Where you disappointed someone,

Where you said the wrong thing and you knew it as soon as the words were out of your mouth.

Where you had to apologize for something,

Where somebody got mad,

Where you got mad,

Where you disappointed yourself,

Where you took the bait,

Where you really put your foot in it.

Conjure up that moment and get right in that space.

Just feel those feelings.

Feel that moment.

See who's there.

Think about what was at stake.

Lean into that moment.

And I'm going to be right here with you.

I'm doing it myself right now.

I'm getting all up in my own shame and disappointment.

We're all in this together.

And so I invite you to get all up into it too.

And now on the count of three,

We're going to release it.

Go with me here.

We're going to release it for the next several minutes.

Get ready.

Get good and ready.

Put on your pain face.

Doesn't that feel different?

I feel different.

So,

Next time it happens,

Excuse yourself,

Walk into the next room,

Walk down the street and have yourself a good chuckle.

And then,

The next day,

Let yourself off the hook.

Have a good laugh.

Thanks! 😁🌸💕🍀🙏 years ago a friend told me about laughter meditation- at the time I just thought meditation could be about anything it’s just about focus (but I know now it’s much more than that). My teenage daughter has made me laugh a lot recently, it felt so good I thought I almost have to just relearn how to laugh more often. By chance I discovered there actually laughter meditation on Insight Timer. So perfect to find just what I need just now. It felt so good to allow myself to see the comic side of so many things that have been happening. People always laugh at me, heartedly, now I can laugh, too. I so much need to be able to laugh again. So sending thanks, and also to my wonderful daughter, who always has a spark in her eye.

Definitely something I will consider trying out when situations/circumstances permit. I was struck by my admiration of what I percieve to be your tremendous courage in sharing the gift of your laughter with us here - and wondered when having the courage to be vulnerable and share one's laughter became an act of bravery rather than the normal human behavior. Interesting yet disturbing thought. Nevertheless, I consider you a courageous soul, fighting for the light within us all. Thank you for your presence and your work.
