In this audio, we take a look at how life is unpredictable. Change is a constant in our lives. We don't know where life is taking us. When we resist the change, we suffer. When we recognize and accept change, our lives open up to a place of wonder.

Hi,

This is Brooks.

And it's good to be here with you.

Today we'd like to talk about,

Well let's just say the topic is,

You never know.

You know,

I was thinking about that.

You never know what's going to happen next.

I mean sometimes we can have a feeling because things have gone a particular way,

It's going to continue going a particular way.

But we know from experience sometimes things don't continue to go a particular way.

Sometimes the outcome we were expecting,

The complete opposite happens.

So we never know.

It's natural to want a feeling of stability,

Of certainty.

That this is going to be the way it is,

You know.

But life has a habit of going off in different directions.

Going off the opposite way that it had been going on in the past moves in a completely different direction.

And that happens a lot.

So we never know.

I can help,

You know,

Getting up when you get up in the morning.

And you think about your day and you just,

You know,

There's things that you want to do combined with.

We'll see because you never know.

The nice thing about that,

When you have that in the background,

The never knownness,

There is a feeling of flexibility.

And there's a sanity that comes from flexibility.

And by sanity I mean an understanding of life.

That life can go off in a multitude of directions.

It can go off in a way that we don't even expect at all.

And we can have an idea,

Well this would be a good outcome and this would be a bad outcome.

It could go off in a completely different outcome.

Because life is unpredictable.

And there's sanity in that for us to consider that idea.

You know,

Come up spontaneously during the day.

There's this feeling like,

You never know.

I really don't know how this is all going to turn out.

I certainly have things that I would like to have happen.

And the funny thing is sometimes there's these outcomes that happen that we don't like at all.

I don't like this at all.

There's a pain associated with that experience and it's not comfortable at all.

And often times that's where our greatest growth comes from.

When change happens,

It's an opportunity to grow.

And we often do.

Depends how long our resistance lasts to the experience.

You know,

Sometimes something will happen and it's like,

I don't like this at all.

And then there's that,

This shouldn't be happening.

It's like resisting life,

You know.

The full force of the life force.

I'm going to resist it.

But I think it helps to,

In that moment,

When something that we don't like happens,

To say I don't like this at all.

I definitely don't like this.

And it happened.

It's part of the you never know.

And you never know is consistent.

And even knowing that we still might have this feeling of wanting stability.

I just want things to stay the same.

Or I want these particular outcomes to happen.

These are the things that I,

You know,

I want to manifest and materialize.

I want to say affirmations and make them happen.

And then there's what life does.

Part of the you never know.

Sometimes things come that we never would have imagined.

Never imagined.

And they don't hurt.

They're just new.

There's something that we never considered.

And it turns out we love them.

You know?

Because what we know is very limited.

You know our desires are very limited because they're based on our experiences.

And there's an unlimited amount of experiences and we've only had a limited amount of experiences.

So our desires are based on the things that have already happened to us basically.

Or things we've already experienced.

Oh I know from experience I like this.

Or I know from experience I don't like this.

I don't know about you but I've certainly had many times where I've,

There's something,

That was a great experience you know.

And then I repeat it or I try to repeat it you know.

And then it happens and then it's like alright that wasn't not anywhere as good.

It wasn't good at all actually you know.

And it's a surprise.

It was good the last time.

What happened this time you know?

And knowing that can start to create an ease within ourselves that you never know aspect.

When that starts to creep in and become a part of us there's an openness that starts to happen.

There's this openness.

Like there's possibilities out there I've never even thought of.

And I'm open to seeing what life brings me.

Maybe I might resist it at first.

But I'm going to stay open and curious to it because maybe there's something there that I might really like.

You know.

Going with the flow so to speak.

So if you find yourself in a moment where you're fighting against what's happening.

This shouldn't be happening.

The universe is out of order.

This is wrong.

It's worth noticing that tension.

That resistance.

And maybe it'll start to abate and start to reduce.

And then maybe the resistance will drop.

And then there's the experience.

Pain in a moment is certainly a lot less when the resistance goes away.

When we're experiencing it.

Alright this hurts.

This is what's happening.

I don't like it.

At the same time it's not as bad as when I was thinking this shouldn't be happening.

And the great thing is pain is always temporary.

Sometimes when we're in the midst of pain we think this is going to last forever.

It's never going to go away.

What's going to happen to me?

But we've had plenty of pain in our lives that have come and gone.

Most of it we don't even remember.

Some of it was really bad.

And we have no recollection of it anymore.

So you never know.

I know someone once who was working on his car and the engine was running and the car was turned on and the hood was up and he was working on the engine.

And somehow the car slipped into drive.

From neutral into drive.

It started moving forward and he pushed his shoulder into the car.

It was an automatic reaction to stop it.

He dislocated his shoulder.

And I think that's how it is.

That resistance to what's happening.

This shouldn't be happening.

I think that throws us.

It really hurts.

But you never know.

There's that openness to change.

The expectation of change.

Essentially.

That's what you never know is.

Change is going to happen.

Change happens all the time.

Change is constant.

I know from experience.

I look back at my life.

People have come and gone.

Jobs have come and gone.

My body's changed.

The way I see the world's changed.

Money comes and goes.

Different things.

They come and go.

There's a thing you can do where you think about the five most amazing things that have ever happened in your life.

And that doesn't necessarily mean they're all happy.

Some of them could have been really intense and difficult.

But if you think about,

Let's just say the five.

Oftentimes,

I'd say most of the time those things were things that you didn't know were coming.

They happened.

So I really think you never know is an acceptance of life.

The way it is.

I think that's essentially the secret to life.

Life changes.

Life changes.

No matter how much I don't want it to change.

No matter how much I have a wish list of the things that I want.

Life is going to do what it wants.

Sometimes it correlates to what I want.

Oftentimes it doesn't.

But with that you never know-ness.

Life becomes a lot simpler and a lot easier.

A lot more wondrous.

So I enjoyed spending time with you.

This is good.

And I wish you the best.

Take care.

I truly enjoyed this topic today I am getting really cozy with this concept of not knowing and just living in “I will see what happens” or “maybe” thank you for this light n realistic discussion🩷
