When your inhales and exhales are the same length,
You create a steady rhythm for your nervous system to settle into.
Bringing balance between effort and ease.
With each even breath,
Your mind can gather into calm focus and scattered thoughts begin to settle into clarity.
In this practice,
You'll inhale for a count of five and exhale for a count of five,
Both through the nose,
Using a technique called equal breath.
Also known as coherent breathing.
You can save this practice and come back to it anytime.
Let's start with two breaths together.
Breathe in through the nose.
Breathe out through the mouth.
Inhale,
Let your body open.
Exhale,
Let your neck and shoulders soften.
Before we begin counting,
Notice your natural breath,
Just as it is.
Let the outside world fade away and turn your attention to the sensations of your breathing.
The soft sound of the breath coming in and out through your nose.
The gentle rise and fall of your chest and belly.
From here,
Let both your inhale and exhale move through the nose,
Smooth and continuous,
With a short pause at the top and bottom.
Now,
Let's breathe to my count.
Inhale 2,
3,
4,
5.
Exhale 2,
3,
4,
5.
Inhale 2,
3,
4,
5.
Exhale 2,
3,
4,
5.
Inhale 2,
3,
4,
5.
Exhale 2,
3,
4,
5.
Four,
Five.
Inhale.
Exhale.
Out.
Now on your own.
If the count feels long,
Shorten it and let your body set the pace.
Rest your attention on the breath.
Maintain the equal rhythm of your inhale and exhale.
Keep the breath gentle.
Keep your jaw relaxed,
Shoulders relaxed.
If you lose count,
Begin again when you hear the next round.
Three more rounds.
Two more.
One more.
Let go of the count and the rhythm and come back to your natural breath.
Let your body breathe at its own pace.
And take a moment to check in and notice how you feel.
See what has shifted,
However subtle.
Let's close with a breath together.
In through the nose.
Out through the mouth.
Thank you for practicing with me.
