Simply noticing your breath without trying to change it can help you return to and reconnect to your body.
By paying attention to the sensations of breathing,
You can strengthen your internal awareness,
Known as interoception.
Developing this powerful sense helps us to notice what's happening in our bodies.
And creates opportunities for deeper connection and understanding.
This improves our ability to make skillful decisions and foster more balance in our lives.
In this practice,
You'll simply observe your breath as it is.
Noticing how it feels in each moment.
Invite yourself to be a curious witness.
Let go of any urge to label or judge and just be with your breath.
I'll guide you to be curious about your experience and leave quiet spaces between my words.
Let those spaces be part of the practice of growing your awareness.
You can save this practice and come back to it anytime.
Make yourself comfortable,
Seated or lying down.
Let your eyes close or soften your gaze.
Take whatever movements you need to find a place where your body can relax into the support beneath you.
Find your grounding and invite stillness into your experience.
Let's begin with two breaths together.
Breathe in through the nose.
Release through the mouth.
Inhale,
Let your body arrive in this moment.
Exhale,
Let your body settle and ground.
Let go of any effort to breathe in a particular way.
And let your body breathe on its own.
If following the breath ever feels uncomfortable,
You can rest your attention on something else,
Like the feeling of the ground beneath you or the sounds around you.
Notice where you feel your breath most clearly right now.
Perhaps at the tip of your nose,
In your chest,
Your ribs,
Or your belly.
Let your attention rest there.
Notice the movement of your breath.
The gentle rise as you breathe in.
The gentle fall as you breathe out.
Is the movement large or small?
Quick or slow?
Just notice.
Be curious.
Does your breath have a temperature?
Is it cooler or warmer with the inhale?
Is it cooler or warmer with the exhale?
Does your breath have a texture?
Maybe smooth or uneven,
Soft or sharp,
Rough or smooth,
Thin or full.
Notice the energy of your breath.
Is it light?
Heavy.
Buzzing peaceful,
Disruptive,
Vibrant,
Lackluster.
Whatever it is,
Just witness and allow it to express itself.
If your mind has wandered,
Notice that it has and gently return to the sensation of breathing.
Coming back is the practice.
Notice the inhale on its own.
What does it feel like as the breath comes in?
And now the exhale.
What does it feel like as the breath leaves?
See if you can sense the difference between the two.
Notice how no two breaths are exactly alike.
Something may shift a little deeper,
Slower.
Or softer.
Or it may not.
Just observe.
Gently let your attention move on from your breath.
Allow yourself to pick up on the noises around you.
Take a moment to check in and see how you feel.
Notice if anything has shifted.
Let's close with a breath together.
Inhale.
And exhale.
Thank you for practicing with me.
