Welcome to your Christian meditation on fostering the feeling of safety.
To begin,
Come into a comfortable position.
You can use pillows or blankets to cover yourself if that feels good.
Take time to settle in and recognize your need to feel safe and that it's okay.
If you feel comfortable,
You can close your eyes or keep your gaze soft and open.
Start to feel your breath.
Notice your chest rising,
Your stomach expanding,
Then your stomach falling,
Your chest deflating.
Know that if you don't feel that,
It's okay.
The sensation will come with time.
I invite you to visualize your breath as a wave of warm water.
This warm water is gently holding you and surrounding you.
It's filling you up and ebbing out.
Feel the water start lapping at your left side.
Feel it traveling up your left toes,
Calf,
Thigh.
Feel it moving up your left pelvis,
Stomach,
Chest.
Feel it safely encompass your left arm,
Hand,
Neck,
And head.
This wave swirls around your head and then slowly travels down your right side.
Down your right head,
Neck,
Arm,
And hand.
Your right chest,
Stomach,
And pelvis.
Your right thigh,
Calf,
And toes.
Your breath is the wave traveling in a warm,
Comforting circle.
I invite you to focus on this as I read scripture over you,
Feeling the flow of the water up your left,
Traveling down your right in a never-ending circle.
Psalm 4-8,
In peace I will lie down and sleep,
For you alone,
Lord,
Will keep me safe.
Psalm 138,
7-8,
Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
You preserve my life.
You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes,
And with your right hand you save me.
The Lord will vindicate me.
Your love,
Lord,
Endures forever.
Do not abandon the works of your hands.
Genesis 28,
15,
I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go,
And I will bring you back to this land.
I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.
Isaiah 54,
17,
No weapon forged against you will prevail,
And you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And this is their vindication from me,
Declares the Lord.
What stood out to you?
Where is God bringing you comfort?
Relaxing even further,
Relax your jaw.
Refocus on your warm wave of water traveling your left side and then down your right.
Psalm 4,
8,
In peace I will lie down and sleep,
For you alone,
O Lord,
Will keep me safe.
Psalm 138,
7-8,
Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
You preserve my life.
You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes.
With your right hand you save me.
The Lord will vindicate me.
Your love,
Lord,
Endures forever.
Do not abandon the works of your hands.
Genesis 28,
15,
I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go,
And I will bring you back to this land.
I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised to you.
Isaiah 54,
17,
No weapon forged against you will prevail,
And you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And this is their vindication from me,
Declares the Lord.
God will hide you under his wing.
Even during trials,
God is before us,
Behind us,
And beside us.
We are not alone.
We experience pain and suffering,
But know that God sent his Son so that we did not have to suffer forever.
Everything has a season.
Summer comes with the warm,
Cool water.
The leaves turn green,
And then in the fall they turn into an array of beautiful colors and die,
Falling to the ground.
Winter comes with its snowy,
Icy beauty,
A season of waiting and planting.
Spring comes with a new promise.
Rain shoots from the earth,
Rain falls,
Renewing us all,
And we're back into summer.
Everything has a season.
Lean into God,
And you'll find your way through your season that you're walking in right now.
Nothing lasts forever.
God is with you always,
No matter what's happening.
Even when you don't feel him,
He's there.
Reconnecting to your wave,
Feel it slowly ebb out of you.
Breathing back to your normal breath,
Feel your contact with the floor,
Feel the firmness and support it offers.
When you're ready,
Open your eyes if they were closed,
And give yourself a hug.
God is with you.
Namaste.
