Hello friends!
Today's meditation comes from my homeland,
Finland.
This is a sauna meditation.
Since Finnish is my native language,
You will hear me use the Finnish pronunciation,
Sauna.
So don't be surprised,
Dear listener,
If it sounds a little different to you.
Find a space where you can be fully at ease,
Whether in the warmth of a sauna or somewhere quiet at home.
Allow yourself to settle into a comfortable position and begin to soften your gaze or close your eyes completely.
Take a deep breath in through your nose,
Feeling the air fill your lungs.
Slowly exhale through your mouth,
Letting go of any tension you might be holding.
Breathe deeply again,
And with each breath,
Feel yourself becoming more relaxed,
More present,
More open to the experience of this moment.
Imagine yourself in the sauna.
Feel the heat surrounding you,
Gentle yet powerful.
Feel the warmth of the sauna slowly embracing you,
The air thick with the soothing heat of steam.
This warmth is not just physical,
It carries with the spirit of löyly,
The Finnish essence of sauna,
The bread of the steam that purifies both body and soul.
As you sit in this warm embrace,
Allow yourself to connect with löyly,
The spirit of the sauna.
Imagine her as a glowing,
Flowing presence,
Like heat rising from the stones,
Swirling in the air,
Wrapping you in a cocoon of energy.
Löyly is not just heat,
She is the balance between fire and water,
An ancient energy that cleanses,
Strengthens and revitalizes.
With every inhalation,
Breathe in the warmth and energy of löyly.
Let her energy begin to move through your body,
Loosening tension,
Calming your mind,
And inviting a deep sense of relaxation.
As you exhale,
Release all that no longer serves you.
Let go of stress,
Of tightness,
Of any weight you have been carrying.
Now call upon Autaretar,
The goddess of steam.
Visualize her as a radiant,
Vaporous being,
Her form constantly shifting like the mist rising from the sauna stones.
She is the spirit of steam itself,
Eternal,
Light and yet profound.
Her breath is like the softest fog,
Gentle yet capable of clearing and renewing everything it touches.
Feel Autaretar's presence,
Feel the air around you mingling with löyly's warmth.
She carries the wisdom of transformation,
The ability of steam to rise,
To cleanse and to release what is old and stagnant.
In this moment,
Allow the steam of Autaretar to soften any mental or emotional burdens you may be carrying.
Let it lift the weight from your heart and mind and allow your spirit to feel lighter with every exhalation.
As you sit in the stillness of this heat,
Recognize the vaki of water,
The power,
The energy that flows through all bodies of water.
This is the energy of the streams,
The rivers,
The lakes and the seas.
It is the essence that gives water its life,
Its flow,
Its transformative power.
The vaki is both gentle and fierce,
Calm and deep.
In this moment,
Invite the vaki of water to flow through you.
Visualize it moving in like water being poured into a vessel,
Filling you with a sense of deep grounding and connection to the earth.
Let the flow of water cleanse you just as it has for millennia,
Washing away anything that feels heavy or stuck.
Feel Löyly swarmed.
The steam of Autaretar and the vaki of water coming together in perfect harmony.
You are surrounded by forces of nature,
Heat,
Mist and water,
Each one working in balance to heal and rejuvenate you.
With each breath,
Feel yourself more aligned with this ancient power,
Your body and soul becoming clearer,
More vibrant,
More at peace.
Now take a few moments to simply sit in this energy.
Feel the presence of Löyly,
The nurturing steam of Autaretar,
And the life-giving flow of the vaki of water surrounding you.
You are cleansed.
You are renewed.
You are the one with the elements.
When you feel ready,
Gently bring your awareness back to the space around you.
Wiggle your fingers and toes.
Stretch your arms and legs.
Take a deep breath in,
Feeling refreshed,
And slowly exhale,
Bringing yourself back to the present moment,
Carrying with you the peaceful energy of Löyly,
Autaretar and the vaki of water.
When you are ready,
Open your eyes.
