This powerful Self Inquiry practice, guides you to access your core essence of being that exists beyond, or prior to, all your conditined thoughts about self. Embark on a journey back to the profound, infinite and eternal truth of who you already are, and who you always have been. Everything that you are seeking, you already are. The only thing that prevents you from truly knowing Self are all the conditioned ideas you already have about yourself. "When you awaken to your authentic peace, you awaken to your authentic power." Note: This meditation is based on 'The Invitation' taught by Mooji but with additional insight and guidance.

To begin,

Close your eyes and sit comfortably with your spine and neck straight and without crossed arms or legs unless you are intentionally sitting in the lotus or cross-legged position.

Meditation is really just an opportunity to gather in our awareness and gently point it where we want with intention.

The intention of this meditation is to point our awareness within,

To discover our true nature,

Our pure essence,

The true nature of our being,

That which exists beyond our thoughts prior to our thoughts,

Prior to all of our conditioning.

What is the truth of our being before our conditioning and before we constructed an image or an idea or a story of ourselves in our own mind?

Who are you,

Really?

Bring your awareness to your breath,

Breathing in and out through the nose if possible,

The in-breath and the out-breath of equal depth and duration,

No extra effort,

Just a normal breath.

Initiate your breath from the back of the throat,

Not sniffing your breath in through your nostrils,

But initiating the breath from the back of the throat with a nice open throat.

Now notice your body,

Just bring your attention to the body.

Notice that you have a body.

Notice the weight and presence and mass of body.

Notice the rise and the fall of the chest as the air moves in and out of your lungs.

Notice the in and out of the belly as the air moves in and out of your body.

Now point your awareness to your right elbow and just notice,

Huh,

I have an elbow.

Point your awareness now to your left ear and just notice,

Oh wow,

I have a left ear.

Did you just grow a left ear?

No,

It's been there all along.

You simply pointed your awareness to the left ear.

But now where did the right elbow go?

So now bring your awareness to both your left ear and your right elbow at the same time.

Now point your awareness to your left foot,

Just noticing that you have a left foot.

Again,

You didn't just sprout a left foot,

It has been there all along.

You're simply now choosing to intentionally point your awareness to the left foot.

Now point your awareness to left foot,

Right elbow and left ear all at the same time.

And you notice you actually have the capacity to point your awareness where you want and become aware of where the awareness is pointed.

Our awareness is typically hijacked or occupied with the story of self,

The narration of self in our own mind,

Creating that self,

Defending that self,

Projecting that self,

Worrying about that self.

And because of that,

Our awareness is rarely,

If ever,

Pointed to the actual truth of who we are,

The essence of a true self that existed prior to all your conditioning and will continue to exist when this current story of you ends.

This meditation is an opportunity to point your awareness to the truth of you that is always and forever present.

Again that you have entered into a sacred place,

A monastery if you will,

Any quiet place where you have come to sit in stillness and to intentionally inquire into the nature of your true being.

And because this place is sacred,

You have left your shoes outside.

For this meditation,

I'm going to ask you to leave your mind outside with your shoes.

Because the mind is not where you will find yourself.

The mind is where you will find stories about yourself,

Images of self,

Or a self that you have constructed with beliefs and ideas and thoughts that you have been calling you.

You,

The truth of you,

Does not live in the mind.

When you die and this mind stops telling its current story of you,

You will still exist.

So let's leave the mind outside with the shoes.

And what that means is let's leave all thoughts about the past outside.

All the thoughts and beliefs and ideas that you have used to describe or identify a you in your mind,

Let's leave all of that outside because it will do no good.

All thoughts of the past will do no good whatsoever into feeling into who are you truly now,

Always,

In this moment,

Beyond your thoughts,

Underneath your thoughts,

Prior to your thoughts.

What is this essence of you?

And let's leave all thoughts about the future outside as well.

All thoughts of what's next.

Where is this going?

What value will this be to me in my life when I'm done with this meditation?

Let's leave all thoughts about the past and all thoughts about the future outside with the shoes.

Which is to say,

Let's leave all mind activity,

All thought activity outside for just a bit,

Just for the duration of this meditation.

We're not asking you to live without thoughts,

To live without ideas,

To live without beliefs.

But just for the duration of this meditation,

Can we leave that all outside for just a bit so that we might discover what is here,

What is true,

What is you when the mind is not telling a story about you?

Following your attention to the breath,

Following it into the body,

And just noticing presence,

Essence.

What will be referred to in this meditation as is-ness,

The is-ness of being.

You don't have to name it.

You don't have to make it into an object or a thing.

You're just feeling.

So we'll use a few inquiries to help with this feeling.

The first inquiry is,

What if you had no beliefs?

Just for a few moments,

Just for a few minutes,

What if you had no beliefs about self?

No ideas about self,

No definition of this thing you call you.

But if you were free of the burden of all thoughts about self,

We're not asking what would life be like if you had no thoughts about self,

Because that engages the mind to think about it.

The mind is outside.

The mind simply asks the question and then does not try to answer.

What we're asking is,

The inquiry is,

What if you had no thoughts about self?

What would it feel like to be free of the burden of a conditioned self?

All your conditioning,

All your stories,

What would it feel like to be free of all thoughts and beliefs and ideas and images of self?

Another way to inquire is,

What if you had no past?

What if you had no history?

No collection of events and stories and beliefs that you've used to cobble together or constructed a you?

What if you had no past?

What would it feel like to be free of all past,

All history?

Just feel into this moment.

You may feel a sense of lightness,

Release,

A release of burden,

A weight lifted.

Lightness,

Ease,

Freedom,

Peace.

Feel into the body,

Feel into the presence of being and just feel a thing that is not a thing,

Just an essence,

Not an object,

Just an essence of being when the mind is relieved.

Of all of its noise and all of its interpretations and all of its stories,

That's all outside of the shoes.

And as you feel into this beingness,

This isness of being,

Consider,

Inquire,

Does it have a shape?

If it feels like it has a shape,

Let that go.

That's the mind trying to make an object of a thing that is not an object.

That's the mind trying to make an object out of a formless essence of being.

So let's let all shape go.

Does it have a gender?

This isness of being when the mind is left outside is no longer telling stories about self.

You still exist.

Even when the mind is quiet,

You still exist.

This existence,

This isness,

Does it have a gender?

It doesn't need a gender.

A gender is a definition,

A limitation.

So no gender,

No shape.

How far is this isness from you?

Is there any distance from you to you?

No shape,

No gender,

No distance.

Does it have an agenda?

No.

The agenda always comes from the mind that we left outside,

Here left only with the truth of you.

No agenda.

Did it just arrive?

Did it just arrive from somewhere?

Or has it been here all along waiting for you to not be so preoccupied with the mind?

Just as you pointed your awareness to your ear and you realized you didn't just grow an ear,

It was there all along,

This isness of you has always been here.

So no shape,

No gender,

No distance,

No agenda.

It did not just arrive.

So if it didn't just arrive from somewhere,

Can it ever go anywhere?

No,

It can't go.

It's you.

We may feel like it goes somewhere only because we lose our awareness of it.

We let our awareness get preoccupied with the illusion of self,

The story of self,

The image of self we've constructed in our own mind.

But as we've just learned when we put the mind outside for a bit,

Here we are.

This is you.

This is the eternal,

Infinite essence of you.

That's just a glimmer initially,

An initial introduction.

And all we did was leave the mind outside for just a bit.

And here you are.

You aware of you.

And this you,

No shape,

No gender,

No agenda,

No distance.

If somebody were to say something disparaging to you while you were in alignment with this truth of you,

Would this care?

Imagine if you lived your life not budging from this truth,

Not budging from this isness,

This eternal and infinite and stable,

Unchanging,

Beautiful truth of you.

If truly you had faith in this truth and did not budge,

Imagine meeting all life conditions,

All relationships,

All situations from this true isness of being.

You can live as your true nature of being.

You can live free of all the noise and conditioning in your own mind.

From this place,

From this truth,

From this essence of being,

You can not only meet all the conditions of life,

You can meet all of your own conditioning as well.

Sitting here in your own truth,

You are like the guru on the mountain.

Not budging,

Sitting in your truth,

Your love,

Your peace,

Your bliss.

And meeting your own shadows,

Meeting your own mind,

Meeting your own stories with infinite love and compassion and peace.

You may sit in this truth,

In this peace,

In this blessing of you for as long as you wish.

And when you do,

Slowly,

Gently open your eyes again,

Know that your thoughts,

Your mind will return.

But now you can witness them and meet them from this truth of being.

Blessings.

Namaste.

Peace.

Just what I needed. I've been dealing with conditioning from childhood and belief systems that I was challenged with at that time and this reminded me of who I really am and all that other stuff is just minutiae.

Well written with an excellent delivery. I wouldn’t suggest this for beginners, because it takes you pretty deep, but it’s a beautiful idea. Bookmarked and following.
