Find a comfortable seated position.
Let your spine be upright but not rigid.
Allow your shoulders to soften.
Rest your hands gently.
Lower your gaze or close your eyes.
Bring your awareness to your breath.
Inhale slowly through the nose.
Exhale gently through the mouth.
Again inhale and exhale.
Let your body begin to settle.
Notice the support beneath you.
The contact points of your body on the floor or on your chair.
When your mind wanders,
Gently guide it back.
No judgment,
Just returning.
Today we are reflecting on acceptance.
Acceptance does not mean approval.
It does not mean liking what is happening.
And it does not mean giving up.
Acceptance means to acknowledge,
Recognize,
Endure.
Acceptance is seeing reality for what it is,
Even if you don't like it.
There are moments in life we can change.
And there are moments we cannot.
And when we cannot change what is happening,
Fighting reality does not change it.
It only increases our suffering.
Acceptance is not just something we think.
It is something we engage with our whole self,
Our mind,
Our body,
And our heart.
So today we are going to explore what would it feel like to meet this moment like water.
Water does not resist what is in its path.
It flows around,
Through,
And with it.
Bring your awareness back to your breath.
Now gently begin to imagine water.
A slow moving stream or gentle waves.
Notice how water moves.
It does not argue with the shape of the land.
It does not resist obstacles.
It adapts.
Take a moment to feel into that quality.
Now bring to mind something in your life that feels difficult to accept.
Choose something manageable,
Not overwhelming.
Just something that brings a bit of tension or resistance.
Notice what happens in your body.
Is there tightness,
Holding,
A sense of this shouldn't be happening,
Why me?
Gently acknowledge that.
Now imagine placing this experience into the stream.
Not to get rid of it,
But to be with it differently.
Gently say to yourself,
This is what is happening right now.
Let that land.
See if you can allow this experience to be what it is.
Not the story.
Not the judgment.
Just what is.
Take a slow breath in.
And as you exhale,
Imagine your body softening slightly,
Like water flowing around a stone.
No forced,
Just allowing.
Now notice,
There are causes.
There are conditions.
There is a reality that exists in this moment.
Even if you don't fully understand it,
This is what is here.
Notice where you feel this in your body.
Place a hand there,
If it feels supportive.
And imagine breath like water flowing in and flowing out.
Softening around that space.
Acceptance does not remove the experience.
It does reduce the struggle against it.
I may not like this,
But I can acknowledge that it is here.
This is what is happening.
Notice if there is even a small shift.
A little more space.
A little less tension.
Water does not rush.
Acceptance also takes time.
Now,
Allow any emotions to arise.
Sadness,
Frustration,
Grief.
Like waves.
Let them come.
And let them go.
You don't need to hold them,
And you don't need to push them away.
Just like water.
They come and go.
They move through.
Take a few slow breaths here.
Rest in this place of allowing.
Gently ask yourself,
What am I being invited to accept right now?
And what might shift if I softened even slightly toward reality?
Begin to bring awareness back to your body.
Notice your breath.
The space around you.
Gently wiggle your fingers or toes.
If your eyes are closed,
Slowly open them.
As you move into your day,
See if you can carry this with you.
Not forcing acceptance,
But practicing it like water.
Moment by moment.
May we find the strength to face reality as it is.
May we soften our resistance and reduce our suffering.
And may we move through life with the flexibility,
Strength,
And wisdom of water.
