
Meditation For Motivation
This healing practice will help you drop in your body, face and release obstacles, and create motivating energy to accomplish your dreams. Using techniques such as breathing and journeying through stuck emotions, Erin Colleen Geraghty E-RYT 500 will guide you to your vital force.

Recovery can be tricky navigation.
You have empires to build and conquer,
But you're not sure how to navigate or where to begin.
That's where I come in.
My name is Erin Colleen Garrity,
Yoga studio owner,
Certified recovery coach,
Yoga therapist and author,
And this is Thriving After Addiction,
Where I teach you how to show up for your life fully and heal yourself while you do it.
Hello,
Welcome back to Thriving After Addiction.
This is Erin.
So today's episode,
I'm going to take you somewhere a little bit different.
Today's episode,
We're going to do a meditation for motivation.
So if you're listening to this in your car,
It's fine.
Just breathe,
Make sure that you stay alert.
If you're at home,
You can take a comfortable seat and relax in your body a little bit more.
Either way,
You have a gentle awareness of your breath and a gentle awareness of your body.
And as you continue to breathe,
You might start to notice that your body comes to life a little bit more.
Motivation is something that can escape us at certain times.
Many times the mind is overwhelmed with cyclical thoughts.
And what happens is we become caught in those thoughts and we become drained.
And so we lose our motivation.
We lose a clear path to do what we want to do.
We lose a clear path to allowing the sensations within us to guide us.
And so breathing and becoming aware of any hidden tension pockets within your body.
And allow yourself to soften the outer edges of those tension pockets.
And just breathe with me.
If you've been listening to this podcast for a while,
We know each other.
So let's breathe together.
If you can breathe in and out through your nose.
And if you can,
Creating just a little bit of tension in the back of the throat on the inhale and exhale.
And what this does is creates a whole vibration through your body.
It's like a vibrational massage through your body.
And that massaging action,
That vibration is going to release any,
Again,
Tension layers in your body.
So that you can soften and you can free up any stuck energy in your body.
As you scan,
Just notice areas that are common for holding tension around the forehead,
Around the eyes and jaw.
Soften those areas,
Relaxing into the shoulders,
Chest,
Back.
And then my favorite place to hold tension is around the diaphragm,
The chest and the belly.
And so allow yourself to drop in there compassionately.
If the mind's bouncing around,
It wants more stimulus,
Focus on the sensation in your body when you do that diaphragmic breathing.
And isn't it nice that you can take that tool with you anywhere?
And so after a few more breaths,
You might feel dropped properly into the body.
Again,
If there's any hard areas of resistance,
Just imagine softening the outer edges of those areas.
Another tool is to focus on an area that is really soft.
So for me,
The lower left-hand corner of my abdominals is soft.
And then I focus on that area to teach the other areas how to soften.
What you focus on expands.
Take that for a few breaths.
And so we can access the wisdom that you have inside of you.
I'm in the belief that we have so much energy,
So much wisdom,
So much beauty and creativity inside of us.
It's just it's usually blocked from stuck energy,
From holding on so much,
From not having time,
The means or the wanting to process our emotions.
And so whatever you're feeling in this moment,
If all of a sudden you notice a sensation in the back of your head or neck,
Your belly or your arms,
Just observe,
Isn't that neat that we can be here together experiencing the body becoming present?
And then I want you to bring to mind something that you would like to accomplish.
Just think about it.
And rather than getting caught up on the details of hows and whys,
Setting hard lines,
Deadlines,
Just imagine yourself having accomplished it in your body right now.
Like a knowing and a satisfaction that you showed up,
You put the work in.
And now you get to feel reward of accomplishment.
Maybe you feel proud of yourself.
Maybe you feel satisfied and contented.
Maybe you feel a relief.
Breathe and allow that.
And so let your breath mingle with it as if you were kneading dough.
As your breath kneads into that feeling and it becomes expansive through your body.
So your body is now communicating maybe with your brain as far as how to get this done.
So as you breathe and feel this feeling,
You are starting to manifest taking action because the feelings that you're creating of satisfaction,
Of contentment,
Of accomplishment,
Being proud are light and give you energy towards the direction of what you want to accomplish.
Rather than shaming ourselves or saying,
Oh,
I think I should do this or why don't I do this,
Etc.
And ruminating in the mind,
We drop into the body and use the tool of results ahead of time.
Allow yourself that energy.
This is like giving yourself a spiritual cup of coffee.
And now I want you to ask yourself why now that you're in the space of feeling.
Why do you want this?
Why do you want to accomplish this thing?
And allow all the benefits and reasons to flood through you.
Maybe it's something like I want to prove it to myself.
I want to show myself how strong I am.
I want XYZ to be proud of me.
I want to walk around with the confidence knowing that I did this.
Because I know it's possible.
I know that inside of me I can do this.
And I want to have the satisfaction of birthing that into the world.
Allow yourself to go into those reasons and benefits.
Feel it.
You deserve it.
You can do it.
Keep staying in this vibration and breathing.
Stay with me.
Keep dropping into the body.
If the mind tries to steal away this experience,
Just know that it's not for the mind.
It is for the body.
And the body will teach the mind what to do.
So when you have your reasons why,
When you have your motivation,
I want you to bring to mind one clear actionable action that you can take.
As far as the next step.
What's the next step?
And feel it.
Stay good in yourself.
Feel it.
Allow it.
Do you need to make a phone call?
Do you need to do a Google search?
What do you need to do to take the first actionable steps in the direction of accomplishment?
And you may notice that the first step or two,
Whereas before it was daunting,
Maybe it doesn't feel so daunting anymore.
Maybe you feel like,
Oh,
Actually,
You know what?
I can do this and I feel like I can do this.
Like I can feel it and just riding those waves and allowing that to flood through you.
Now for the tricky part.
So you know what steps to take,
Right?
Your body's telling you.
You know how you'll feel.
You know the benefits.
You know the why's.
I want you to stay in the space,
But I want you to bring to mind an obstacle.
Bring to mind something that is a realistic obstacle.
Maybe you have children.
Maybe you wake up and the kid is sick.
Maybe your car breaks down.
Maybe money is an issue.
Whatever it is,
Bring that obstacle up in you and notice how your vibration slightly changes.
Breathe.
Stay with me.
Breathe and stay with me.
Or maybe you're aware of your patterns.
Maybe you just get bored or anxious.
Stay with me.
Breathe.
I want you to notice where in your body that doubt or that anxiousness or the feeling of defeat bubbles up in you.
Breathe.
Stay with me.
Breathe.
Stay with me.
Don't turn this off.
Stay with me.
I'll introduce the mantra.
It's okay.
You've got this.
You're strong.
This feeling will pass.
I know I can do this.
I can feel it.
I soften and relax around this obstacle because I know it's not true.
I know it's an illusion.
I know that if my plan A got sideswiped,
I know I have a plan B.
I know I can make this happen.
I want this.
I love myself.
I love myself.
I love myself.
Keep breathing.
Giving yourself the emotional support that you need to get through this obstacle.
Notice your posture.
Maybe it went from growing to shrinking to maybe growing again.
What do you need to hear?
What emotional support do you need?
Do you need to know that somebody loves you?
Do you need to know that somebody's there and that cares?
Do you need to simply breathe?
You are stronger than you know.
So much stronger.
And even if you think you're strong,
You can blow that out of the park with how strong you really are.
Keep breathing.
Keep breathing.
Keep breathing.
You can do this.
Notice that obstacle is a lot softer in your body.
And I want to just point out that you got through the obstacle.
You did it.
Let's go back into that feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction.
You did it.
You did it.
You showed up for yourself.
Breathe.
You stayed with me during this entire meditative process.
You went through the ups.
You went through the downs.
You tuned into your body and you stayed with yourself.
The worst thing that can happen in life is a feeling.
And you went through a broad spectrum of emotions with me in just under 20 minutes.
Any time that you need motivation,
Any time that there's a task at hand and you want to feel it and you want to do it,
Come back to this meditation.
It's waiting for you to access yourself.
Breathe.
And for a little balm,
Imagine just being completely loved no matter what.
You are loved.
You are accepted.
Allow yourself to be open to that.
Allow yourself to be loved.
Feel it.
Breathe.
There you go.
You are loved.
You can accomplish anything.
You are strong.
You are thriving after addiction.
