And now,
There is nothing more you need to do.
You do not need to concentrate on my voice.
You don't need to follow every word.
There may be moments when you hear me clearly.
And moments when you begin to drift.
You might lose track of a sentence.
Notice a thought.
And then return again.
And all of that is perfectly fine.
The conscious mind does not need to stay involved.
It can begin to wander toward sleep.
While a deeper part of you simply continues listening.
Allow the muscles around the eyes to soften.
Let the forehead smooth.
The jaw loosen.
The shoulders grow heavy.
And notice how completely the bed beneath you is already supporting your weight.
Nothing to hold up.
Nothing to hold together.
With every easy exhale.
Allow yourself to give a little more of that weight away.
A little less effort.
A little less holding.
And perhaps you begin to notice.
That as the body becomes heavier.
The mind.
Can become lighter.
Thoughts may soften around the edges.
The spaces between them may grow wider.
You don't need to make anything happen Your body already knows this path.
You have crossed from waking into sleep.
Thousands of times before.
And tonight.
You can simply allow it to happen again if my words begin to become less important.
That's perfectly okay.
If you lose track of them completely.
Even better.
You are allowed to drift.
You are allowed to stop listening consciously.
You're allowed to sleep.
And now I'm going to count slowly from 10 down to 1.
With each number,
Simply allow yourself to settle a little deeper.
You may hear every number.
Or you may miss some entirely.
Either way is fine.
Done.
The body,
Heavy and supported.
Nine.
And the mind.
Beginning to quiet.
8.
The eyes and jaw softening.
Seven.
The shoulders releasing.
6.
Breathing easily now.
Five.
Drifting farther from the surface of the day.
Four,
Thoughts.
Becoming softer less important.
Three.
Moving closer to that quiet threshold between waking and dreaming.
Too.
The conscious mind no longer needing to fall out.
And one.
Let go.
From this point forward.
My voice can simply become part of the background.
Something you may hear.
Or not here.
As you drift.
You no longer need to understand every word.
You no longer need to remember what comes next.
The body knows how to sleep.
And the mind.
Knows how to dream.
And you are free now to drift deeper.
While the conscious mind rests.
