Balancing Masculine & Feminine Energies
by Emma Orlando
Balance your yin and yang energy with this balanced breath meditation. Draw energy into the right side of your body to tap into your divine masculine, followed by your left divine feminine side. Then spend some time balancing both energies to bring harmony into the body
Transcript
Hi and welcome to this meditation designed to help you balance the masculine and feminine energies within you.
To begin,
As always,
I invite you to just find a place of comfort.
Find a way of being where you can just soften and sink into the body.
Take a few moments to make any adjustments and just begin to tap into the surroundings.
And as you're sitting in stillness,
I invite you just to become aware of the subtle energies in the body.
Being aware of the breath as it flows in and out.
And then bringing your awareness to the right side of the body,
Starting at the bottom of the right foot.
I just want you to feel the energy as it comes up the leg,
Into the knee,
Top of the leg,
Right hip,
Right side of the torso,
Right side of the chest,
Into the right armpit and all the way down the right arm until you feel the energy in the right fingertips.
Continuing up to the right shoulder,
The right side of the neck,
The right ear,
The whole right side of the face.
I just want you to notice how the energy feels on this side of the body,
Being aware of any tension,
Perhaps where you feel some ease in the body.
Sending the breath to anywhere that you feel needs it.
Beginning again on the left side of the body,
That left sole of the foot,
Feeling into the energy here as it travels up the bottom of the leg,
The top of the leg,
The left hip,
The left side of the torso,
The left side of the chest,
Into the left armpit,
All the way down that left side of the arm into the fingertips.
Back to the left shoulder,
Side of the neck,
Left ear,
Being into the whole left side of the face,
And again being aware of any subtle differences here.
Sending the breath to anywhere that needs it.
Spending a few moments just noticing how the energy is balanced in the body right now,
Between the left and the right side.
Perhaps you're finding yourself slumping to one side,
Perhaps you're noticing some stiffness on a particular side,
Perhaps one side generally just feels more at ease than the other.
Maybe you don't notice any difference at all and that's totally fine.
And this right side of our body is this masculine energy,
The yang energy.
We often associate this sense of logic,
This focus,
The side of us that's driven towards goals,
That seeks structure.
And the left side of our body is what we associate with the feminine,
The yin energy.
And this is what we associate with our creative side,
Our intuition,
This caring,
Generous,
Nurturing element of ourselves.
So maybe just being aware of where you can feel in the body,
Perhaps those energies maybe aren't quite aligned.
Maybe you're feeling you're floating towards one a little more than the other right now and that's totally okay.
And I invite you just to draw in a nice long breath when you feel ready.
Filling up the belly and the chest and then exhaling from the chest down to the belly.
Carrying on with these deeper breaths just for a few moments as I talk you through the breath that we're about to come into.
We're going to come into our nadi shodhana breath.
On each side we're going to spend some time breathing through the right nostril,
Tapping into this masculine energy.
And then we're going to spend some time breathing through the left nostril,
Tapping into the feminine.
And then we're going to bring those energies together,
Really balancing these energies within us.
And so when you feel ready,
I invite you to take your pinky and your ring finger and just place them just hovering over that left nostril.
And then when you feel ready,
You're just going to apply a little bit of pressure on that left nostril just to block that airway and send in a deep breath through the right nostril.
Exhaling through the right nostril when you're ready.
Beautiful,
Two more like this,
Keeping that left nostril closed.
Beautiful,
And then when you feel ready,
Just allowing that hand to drop down into the lap.
Just taking a couple of breaths with both nostrils open,
Noticing any subtle differences between the right and left sides.
And then when you're ready,
We're going to mirror and do the exact same time,
This time using our left hand,
The pinky and the ring finger onto the right nostril.
And then when you're ready,
You're just going to take three deep breaths in on that left side.
Blocking off that right nostril,
Breathing in through the left.
And when you're ready,
Dropping the hands down into the lap,
Noticing the breath again,
Any subtle differences in the body.
How does the right side differ from the left?
Does it even differ at all?
And then when you're ready,
I invite you to bring that right hand up again and take that pinky and the ring finger onto the outside of the left nostril.
And this time we're going to alternate the breathing.
So following with me,
Closing off that left nostril when you're ready,
Drawing in a nice deep inhale through the right nostril.
Then using the thumb to close the right nostril,
Open up the left nostril and exhale out the left hand side.
Breathe in on the left nostril.
Pinky and ring finger close the left nostril,
Lift the thumb,
Breathe out of the right nostril.
Again,
Breathe in on the right nostril.
Close the right,
Open the left and exhale.
Beautiful.
Breathe in through the left.
Close the left,
Open the right,
Exhale.
Two more here.
Inhale through that right nostril.
In your own time,
Carrying on with this breath.
Deepening the lengths of the inhales and exhales if you need to.
And just being aware of how this feels in the body.
Perhaps one nostril feels slightly more blocked than the other.
Just a few more moments.
And when you're ready,
Dropping your hands back down into your lap or wherever they just land.
Now taking in a few deep breaths,
Really feeling into the energy.
How do you feel different?
Did any particular thoughts come into your mind when you were on different sides of the body?
Did you notice any new tensions arise?
This is a really beautiful way of tapping into where we may be a little bit out of balance in the masculine and feminine energies.
Noticing in the physical body and what rises in the mind.
In what you can just feel in your energy.
Knowing the Nadi Shodhana breath is always there for us to help unite these energies.
The balanced breathing breath.
And I invite you just to come and find a journal or just to spend a few moments thinking about what came up here for you.
Using this as an invitation where perhaps you can spend a little bit of time in an opposite energy.
To help you find this sweet spot,
This alignment between the two.
Thank you for joining me.

Thank you for this. When I did this for the first time, my right nostril was blocked while my left was open. A few days later, I just did this again and now my left nostril is blocked and it feels more free flowing on the right. I wonder why! But either way, grateful for this mediation. Thank you
