In Episode 4 of the Lucky Mantra Podcast, we talk openly about the fears every musician faces: stage fright, performance anxiety, losing focus on stage, and the challenge of truly expressing yourself through music. We explore practical and spiritual tools to break through, such as conscious breathing to instantly calm nerves and return to presence, and grounding techniques using your instrument, body, and surroundings. We also discuss turning fear into fuel for self-discovery and spiritual growth, the power of vulnerability when singing or performing live, and real stories of returning to music after long breaks. This open conversation will help any musician, singer, or creative perform with more freedom, presence, and joy. If you’ve ever felt nervous before a show or want to bring mindfulness into your music, this episode is for you.

What kind of fears do you encounter during your journey as a musician and how do you deal with them?

To me,

It all starts with.

.

.

Not being in the moment.

So the fears are usually not.

.

.

Coming from the situation,

But they are coming from a conditioning around the situation.

So just to give you an example.

The mind usually goes into the future.

And if you're which really helps is if you're breathing on stage.

For example,

You breathe consciously,

You start breathing.

And you're in the moment and then you look at the people I mean some people don't like to look at the people in the audience,

Yeah.

To test.

Be present in the moment where you are and then It's a big thing to.

.

.

Keep your breath calm because most of the stress or the stress patterns are very connected to your breathing.

It's also how you practice.

If you start,

If you practice something,

It doesn't matter on guitar,

Piano,

Whatever.

And you start to breathe irrationally or you hold your breath or you do other things,

Then you know that you're not relax while you do this.

And of course,

This is a huge topic,

How you deal with your fears.

Things that are coming up but I would just use what I said as an entrance point to the whole discussion.

Um.

.

.

I mean,

There's so many aspects you can be frightened on stage.

You know,

You can experience fear on stage,

Which everybody knows is called stage fright.

And then of course it's the,

Will you be able to be a part of the whole thing and not disturb somebody else?

You know,

There could be so many little things that trigger.

Fears inside of you and I think that was the most valuable input anyways to you and our percussionist he's the same you know he when he notices he goes off he needs to return to himself and that can happen through breathing or just experiencing yourself sitting or seated and be very clear that you were there you know or even saying this is my I play the harmonium you know this is my harmonium these are my fingers this is my G or whatever,

These things can trigger for you to come back right where you are and that things are as they are.

And of course,

It's a process of development because.

.

.

Personally,

I didn't play music for quite a while because it was not even in my field of possibilities that I would ever play music or become a musician again,

If you can say it like this.

And then through circumstances,

My life's path changed and I started to play again.

I started to play again guitar and now I'm also singing more.

Singing was even a greater,

A bigger challenge than playing.

And.

.

.

I think it's important that you face your fears.

Are between you and the goal that you want to achieve in a certain direction.

And this is also not easy sometimes but.

.

.

This whole music process and the spiritual process,

This is actually the the gold in it.

You can dig it out and find your.

.

.

Own path in this.

This can be your self-exploration process,

This can be your spiritual process.

Deal with the stuff that's coming up.

Absolutely,

And I think you see that with right musicians anyways,

You know,

That the people who stick to music as a self-expression,

They do that because they notice it does something to themselves.

That's at least what I observed.

But when we're saying like the fears you encounter through singing or anything else is your voice can tell everything.

Everybody can instantly hear any nuance that shifts in your voice and can figure out intuitively where you're at with things.

So it's very scary to be almost naked through your voice.

In presenting a song or recording a song or anything like that.
