Hi,

I am Dr.

Shaniqua Walker-Barnes.

Lately I've been doing a lot of work around healing old hurts including trauma that comes from my own experience,

The cultural trauma of racism,

Sexism,

Heterosexism,

And intergenerational trauma.

So today I'm going to lead us through an affirmation practice that's designed to support healing and inner transformation.

Now this practice is not a substitute for a mental health treatment,

But I think it could be an additional support for treatment.

If you have a diagnosis of trauma or you are currently in treatment,

Make sure you consult with your mental health provider to make sure that this is a good time in your healing journey to utilize this practice.

And as always,

No matter where you are in life,

Be gentle with yourself.

Make this practice work for you.

Adapt in any way that you feel necessary.

So let's begin.

Let's start by taking a few deep cleansing breaths,

Inhaling through the nose deeply,

And then taking a long exhale through the mouth.

Doing that again.

Long,

Slow,

Deep inhale,

And then exhaling through the mouth,

Allowing the body to settle as the air leaves the lungs.

Let's take one more long,

Slow,

Deep in-breath,

Perhaps holding at the top for a second or two,

And then a long,

Slow release.

Now continuing to breathe gently and calmly at your own pace.

Listen to each of the following affirmations.

There will be a space after each one if you want to repeat it to yourself,

Either silently or aloud.

We will go through this set of affirmations twice.

I have what I need to be well.

I learn from the past and release it.

I release old hurts with ease.

My heart opens more each day.

I allow feelings to flow through me.

I accept my anger and direct it wisely.

I let go of control and resistance.

I am a loving force for change in the world.

Forgiveness comes to me naturally and in its own time.

Today I choose to heal.

Today I choose to heal.

Today I choose to heal.

Taking a deep,

Cleansing,

Healing breath in.

And as you breathe out imagining that you are releasing old hurts.

Releasing pain.

Releasing unforgiveness.

Taking another deep breath in and breathing in healing and wholeness and transformation.

And as you exhale,

Exhaling the things that do not serve you.

And one more time,

Deep breath in.

And release.

Thank you for practicing with me today.

I hope that this day brings you healing,

Peace,

Wellness,

And joy.
