I invite you to sit back and get comfortable.
I'm going to walk you through a practice of pause.
In fact,
Eight habits of pause that I know will give you the inspiration and the guidance to develop your own positive habits of pause.
Let's dive in.
Pausing is a consciously chosen temporary break that creates moments to simply be.
It helps alleviate stress as pausing creates a space for conscious breathing,
For resetting,
For the experience of calm and quiet,
And the freedom of living in only now.
Pausing for a time ignites the parasympathetic nervous system to engage,
Thereby feeling the rest and relaxation response.
Here,
You lower stress hormones and begin to re-energize.
Pausing creates space between a stimulus and a response so that you can move from reacting to thoughtful,
Kind responses.
In public speaking,
Your pause allows the listeners to absorb information and it invites a more engaging experience.
When you pause,
You activate the brain's default mode network,
Giving yourself time before responding to a difficult email or conversation or in solving a problem.
In practice,
A pause is to step away from work or any stressor.
Take a few deep breaths and give yourself time to experience the present moment.
In the present,
There is only this moment and the next.
There is no anxiety nor stress.
You are simply being.
A few minutes of pause is often enough to reset and to return with a fresh and new perspective.
In this practice,
You'll be experiencing pause in eight different ways,
All to give you ideas for creating new habits in which to practice pausing in positive ways,
For living in the present moment,
For you to witness and be,
And as you create new thoughts and feelings that ignite pleasant and enjoyable experiences.
After each description,
Experience the pause.
That's it.
Let's begin.
Pause to close your eyes in the presence of this moment.
Pause to send love energetically from your heart center.
Pause to witness your breathing and take a deep breath.
Pause to remember.
What do you hear?
Pause to think a kind thought.
Pause to feel the love you are.
Use any or all of these eight habits of pause to live a gentler and more easeful existence.
Namaste.
