Guided Meditation for Codependency,
The Lighthouse This guided meditation uses imagery to help us experience what it feels like to let go of codependency and ground ourselves in our own energy.
One definition of codependency is doing for others what they can and should be doing for themselves.
Codependency disempowers people.
Service,
On the other hand,
Is doing for others what they cannot do for themselves.
There are plenty of opportunities to serve in the world,
So we don't want to waste our time and energy in codependency.
Let's begin by closing our eyes and breathing deeply.
With each in-breath,
Fill up the lower belly and then the lungs.
With each out-breath,
Relax and let it go naturally.
Relax your shoulders,
Allowing them to droop downward.
Relax your body and let it sink into your chair.
As you continue to breathe in a natural and relaxed way,
Notice the flow of energy in your body.
You may feel your hands growing warm and tingly.
Now I'd like you to visualize a lighthouse by an ocean.
The lighthouse is standing tall and strong on the top of a grassy hill.
Below it is the rocky shore of the harbor.
The ocean waves are gently lapping the shore.
The sky is clear blue with a few puffy white clouds.
It's a calm day and there are many boats out to sea.
As you gaze into the distance,
You notice that a storm cloud is forming.
Now it's approaching the shore very quickly.
The sky is getting darker,
The waves are getting rougher,
And the boats are being tossed about on the water.
As the rain and wind pick up strength,
The light emanating from the lighthouse increases.
The darker the skies become,
The brighter the light shines to provide safety in the midst of the storm.
As you look out to sea,
You notice that not all the boats need this beam of light to guide them to safety.
Some of them have more capable captains and crews,
And some are fully equipped to manage through the storm safely and effectively.
Now imagine that the lighthouse is getting upset because some of the boats are choosing to follow their own path.
The lighthouse feels unsuccessful because it's not guiding all the boats to shore.
Imagine that the lighthouse is sprouting arms and legs and running up and down the beach,
Acting like a searchlight,
Doing its best to catch the attention of all the boat captains,
And trying to encourage them to depend on its light.
What do you think would be the result?
Most likely,
The boats whose captains were depending on the steady,
Constant beam of light to guide them safely home would be damaged or destroyed in the chaos and confusion.
Some of the boats might be steered dangerously close to shore,
While others would be perfectly content to stay where they are out to sea,
Just relying on their own navigational equipment.
In any case,
The boats would not be served by the lighthouse moving around.
Now visualize the lighthouse standing tall and strong on the grassy hill,
Putting out its steady beam of light.
And imagine that you are the lighthouse.
You are committed to your vision,
Acting faithfully,
Attracting the people who are a good fit for you,
And setting an example for everyone in your life.
You are firmly grounded and stable.
Let's sit for a while and feel this grounded energy.
Now imagine there is a golden ball of light about six inches above your head.
The light is showering you with warm,
Soothing energy.
This light represents the wisdom and empowerment of your higher self.
The light is filling you up until your whole body is glowing.
As you bask in the light,
Feel the unconditional love of your higher self.
This is your opportunity to ask your higher self for guidance.
Take a few minutes to ask your higher self any questions that are on your mind,
And listen for the answers.
Now it's time to come back from the meditation.
Breathe deeply and feel your body.
When you are ready,
Slowly open your eyes,
Stretch,
And come back to the present moment.
Today's is the only test for variables.
