Hi,

This is DhyanSe and you're listening to DhyanSe Meditation Podcast.

This meditation session was given on 14th of January 2019 in Basel,

Switzerland.

In this session,

I opened two secret doors.

One,

The door to egolessness and two,

The door to formlessness.

A very warm welcome to all of you in this Monday evening meditation session with me DhyanSe.

I see several New Year resolutions here.

New faces,

Welcome to all of you.

Let me start the session with a short story today.

Once there was a king.

This king was a lover of paintings.

He used to collect the most beautiful paintings from all over the world.

He used to have this collection put in his kingdom on display and he used to enjoy them whenever he wanted and just collect whatever rare paintings he could get from all over the world.

But this collection was,

Despite being a huge collection of rare paintings and the most beautiful paintings,

The king always felt that there was one painting that was missing.

There was something missing in his collection and he had this feeling for several years that there was one painting that was missing in his collection and he couldn't get over this dissatisfaction of not having this one painting.

So he organized a contest.

He told his people to make this announcement as far as possible to let this one painting be created by the most creative painters of this world to satisfy this one missing painting that was not there in his collection.

Lots of people came,

They made their paintings,

But it did not satisfy the king.

Several years passed by in this contest.

Nobody could come and satisfy the king.

Then one day a meditator came.

He said,

Look,

I will make that painting for you that is going to fulfill exactly what you are looking for.

That dissatisfaction that you have is going to be fulfilled by exactly this painting that I am going to make for you.

But there is one condition.

The king thought,

Well,

I am offering all the possible money,

Everything that the person wants,

But why,

What is this condition?

Let me listen to what this painter has to say.

So this painter said,

While I am making this painting,

You will sit down silently,

Keep your eyes closed.

Do not say a word.

It might take few hours,

It might take days,

It might take years,

But you will sit silently,

Keep your eyes closed until I am finished with the painting.

And once I am finished,

You can open your eyes.

If you don't do that,

You will not be satisfied with the painting that I am making.

Very tough condition,

But the king's desire to have that final painting,

That final piece,

That masterpiece in his collection,

So he said,

Yes,

Okay,

Let's do that.

They both locked themselves in a room where the king sat down,

Eyes closed,

Completely silent,

And the painter started his work.

Hours passed by,

Days passed by,

Months passed by.

People in his kingdom got worried what happened,

Why these two are locked in the room,

Not that the king is now killed by the painter or something like that has happened.

But nobody dared to enter the room because there was king's wish to have this painting and not disturb the process.

After several months,

The painter said,

Okay,

Now it's time for you to open the eyes.

The king opened his eyes.

In front of him,

There was a magnificent scenery with mountains,

With rivers,

With forests in one painting,

The blue skies,

The stars,

Everything in one painting.

It was so magnificent for a while it took the king some moments to realize what has been created.

Then the king started noticing the details of this painting,

And then he saw there was one door that was made in the painting.

He asked the painter,

What is this door in this painting?

What is the significance of this door?

The painter said,

Let's find out.

He took the hand of the king.

He went into the painting,

Into the door,

Opened the door,

Entered the door into the painting,

And the king went along and they both never came back.

In these sessions,

What I do every Monday is to try to create a painting for you.

You are the king,

I'm the painter.

I try to create a door every session for you.

Some of you enter that door with me,

Some of you don't.

But I try in every session to create a new door for you so that you can enter into this painting of life.

What is this door?

What is behind that door is you,

Is your own inner being,

Is your own inner space.

As simple as that.

And meditation is that process of entering that door,

Entering that being of one's own self.

Today I have two doors for you.

One door is easy to enter,

The other one is a bit more subtle.

It's something that you can give it a try and take this as a technique,

As a learning,

Something to take home and maybe practice later on in your life.

The first door is the door of egolessness.

Before we enter into the door of egolessness,

Let's together try to understand what is this ego.

Because this door,

I cannot open this for you alone.

I want you to participate together with me to push this door open for you so that you can enter your own being.

First question,

What is ego?

What do you think is ego?

What is ego?

Or you are all egoless?

Anyone?

You experience this in your daily life,

You use this word so many times in your life that this hurt my ego or this person is egoistic or I am egoistic.

What is this ego?

In very simple words,

There is no right or wrong answer.

So many different ways of expressing the same thing.

What is ego?

Anyone?

Just go ahead,

Anyone?

Self-pride?

Yes?

Thanks.

What is ego?

The separation between me and the others.

What is ego?

What does it mean to you?

Yes?

I is ego.

I is ego believing in just oneself.

What does ego mean to you?

I am sure each one of you have an answer.

Selfishness?

What else?

Any other meanings?

Because whatever you understand as ego is what we have to work on today.

So don't be shy of bringing that out.

What is ego?

Identity.

What else?

Let me share from a meditator's point of view what ego is.

Again,

There are so many definitions,

So many ways of looking at it.

But this is just one way of looking at what is ego.

Ego is nothing but the identification to one's own self.

That identification,

That sense,

That false sense of I is ego.

As simple as that.

Do you always had ego or was it some point in life that the ego started to develop and suddenly appear in your life?

What do you think?

Go back in time.

Go back in your childhood.

When you were one year,

Two year or even smaller than that.

When you were still discovering the world.

When your name did not mean anything to you.

When your description did not mean anything to you.

But still there was this entire world to discover.

Was that something where you were egoless?

Could we say that?

The only difference was that you were not aware of that state.

But somewhat you were egoless.

And over the time with learnings of life,

With education,

With culture,

With all the learnings that we have gathered slowly started to build this ego and came a moment into your life where you said,

I,

This is me,

This is my name,

This is what I want,

This is what I like,

This is what I dislike,

This is right,

This is wrong.

All the things started to come out of that point,

That moment in your life where you suddenly realized,

Oh,

I am,

I am somebody,

I am this name,

I am this and that.

That sense of I,

That false sense of I,

The moment that appeared started all the problems.

Ego has its own place.

Don't get me wrong.

I am not saying that ego is all useless.

We are functioning in this world in a certain way which is both good and bad at the same time.

There is a use of ego as well.

Otherwise,

Maybe who knows how we will function together.

But there was a time when you were egoless.

I want you to right now close your eyes,

Give yourself just 30 seconds to go back in time and explore that moment,

Those moments,

That phase of your life when there was a point where there was this no sense of I,

No name,

No description,

But you still were there,

But you were still there.

Get a taste of that moment,

Those moments,

The time when you were there,

When you were there,

Your name did not mean anything to you,

Your descriptions did not mean anything to you.

Now gently open your eyes.

Is there anyone who could not relate to what we have spoken so far?

Alright,

Then let's go deeper.

Let's try to open the second door.

What is the second door?

The second door is beyond any form,

The door beyond which there is pure consciousness.

This is a bit tricky to understand.

Several conflicts might appear in your own logic of things,

But please for a few moments follow what I am trying to point at just to make you pass through that door as one example.

And that example is if you go back further in time when you were in your mother's womb.

In your mother's womb when you were there,

There was a moment when your mother became from one person to two persons.

There was that moment when we could say that your mother was not one person anymore,

But was now two persons.

There was somebody alive inside the womb of your mother.

What is that moment?

Let's try to explore that.

What is that moment when we could say that your mother was not one person and is now two persons?

Just imagine when those few two cells,

They merged,

Formed maybe a lump of cells.

You still were there.

You were that lump of cells.

You still existed.

You were still there.

You had still a certain shape,

Definition,

A form.

Try to reverse that process and see from a lump of cells to a few cells to very few cells to that moment where there was a shift.

And now before that time,

I leave that up to you to decide did you exist before that or not.

If you think that you existed before is fine.

If you think that you did not exist before is also fine.

From a meditator's point of view,

When you can go deep into the meditation,

When you can go deep into your own being,

You come to a point,

You come to a realization that this matter,

Those few cells,

They are your form.

There was something that existed before that as well.

You came into this world,

You took the matter,

You took the form,

And slowly that form grew and became this body that you are right now.

I know it's not as trivial to understand and to also relate to.

Maybe you have,

Because of your backgrounds,

Your scientific backgrounds,

Your religious backgrounds,

You might have different opinions about that.

I'm not here to impose any of the views.

I'm just giving you another possibility to think about it,

An additional way of looking at it.

How we are going to open these two doors into meditation?

We are going to use a very simple meditation technique.

So far,

The understanding of these two doors was the tricky part.

The meditation is very,

Very simple.

Everyone can relate to that.

Everyone can do that.

Two-step process.

The first step is to enter the door of egolessness by disidentification.

How do you disidentify?

You sit down silently.

You sit down here,

Now.

You allow yourself to calm down.

And whatever comes to your awareness,

The noises outside,

The movements of your own body,

What you can hear,

What you can see,

What you can smell,

Anything that comes to your awareness,

For a moment you disidentify with that.

You don't care about it.

You let it be.

If you need a prop,

If you need to bring,

Hold your awareness somewhere,

Hold your awareness on your breathing process.

Meaning,

Just remain aware of your breathing process.

Your inhalation,

Your exhalation.

You don't have to concentrate on it.

You only have to remain aware of it.

And disidentify with anything that is happening outside,

Whatever noises,

Movements,

Anything that is happening outside.

Disidentify with what's happening outside.

Disidentify with what's happening inside of you.

Thoughts are coming and going.

Planning about tomorrow is coming and going.

Thoughts from this morning during the day are coming and going.

Let them go.

Let them be there.

Don't fight with them.

Don't try to kill them.

Don't try to push them away.

Let them be there.

They will come and they will go.

Remain silent,

Disidentified,

Only aware of your breath.

Then once you are settled in that awareness of your breath,

Then we will even leave our hold of the breath,

Which means we will simply remain aware and exist and just be.

That's door number one.

Very simple.

Everyone can do that.

There is no prior experience of meditation needed to do that.

We will try to go further.

Those who can,

Follow along.

Those who can't,

It's also fine.

Just sit silently.

To understand how to do the step two of meditation,

And during meditation I will give you all the instructions so you don't have to remember this,

But just to make you familiarize with what is going to happen.

Now you are listening to me.

All of you are listening to me.

And now shift your awareness to somewhere outside and watch yourself listening to me.

While I am speaking,

You are sitting over there.

You can also become aware of you listening to me,

Sitting there,

Sitting still,

Sitting quiet.

This shift of awareness,

Which is from you being there in your body to an awareness of yourself,

From somewhere from outside without any specific place,

Just this awareness that you are listening to me and also being aware that you are listening to me.

That's the second level.

If you can do that,

I will instruct you during the meditation as well.

If you can do that,

Then you can slowly move away from your form,

From your body,

From your mind and simply remain and exist as an awareness,

Witnessing everything that is going on with you,

With others in this room,

Outside.

There is no limit to how far that can expand.

But it's up to you.

Give it a try.

There is nothing wrong that you could do in this meditation here.

So try to follow the instructions.

Enjoy the meditation if you feel at any point that you have missed,

That you have not followed what has happened.

Come back to the instructions.

Start with being silent,

Just sitting there,

Aware.

I have spoken for some time now.

Any questions before we start the meditation today?

I hope it's clear.

These two steps.

The first step is the door to unlock egolessness where we will sit in disidentification.

Then the second door to unlock going beyond forms where you let your awareness go out of your self and just observe you sitting there silently,

Everybody else sitting there silently and remaining aware.

If those who are new,

If you feel that you cannot sit for the next 20 minutes,

25 minutes with your back straight,

Without making too many noises out of your genuine pain,

Please take rest next to the wall because that is much easier to sit next to the wall with your back rested next to the wall.

Don't touch your head to the wall but just your back,

Support your back.

That will help you to maintain an easy posture for the next 20-25 minutes.

Second request,

Let's try to be as silent as possible.

I know the postures are sometimes creating pain.

Just for 20-25 minutes try not to disturb yourself out of that pain and disturb others because of that pain.

When we silently sit together,

These are very special moments.

These are moments where we have the energy of the group becoming silent,

Everyone gets benefited out of that.

So let's try to not disturb that.

With that,

Let's close our eyes and last call for anyone wanting to change positions,

Postures,

Going next to the wall.

Close your eyes.

Take a nice deep breath,

Inhale from the nose and exhale from the nose.

Take a nice deep breath,

Inhale from the nose and exhale from the nose.

Another deep breath in,

Inhale from the nose and exhale from the nose.

Relax and let your body settle.

Let your mind settle.

Shoulders down,

Back straight.

Keep your face relaxed,

Your entire body relaxed.

Allow your entire body to settle,

Your breath to settle and your awareness on your breath.

A very gentle awareness on your breath,

Simply observing your breathing in and out.

Keep your awareness on your breath and try to disidentify,

Let go of your surroundings.

You hear the noises from outside,

Let them be.

You remain silent,

Keeping your awareness on your breath.

Allow your awareness to naturally settle on your breath,

While not worrying about what's happening outside or anywhere else.

Let the noises come and go.

You remain silent and aware of your breath.

With every breath,

Become more aware of your breath.

Let your awareness settle on your breath.

Thoughts come and go,

You remain aware of your breath.

Let your awareness settle on your breath.

Let your awareness settle on your breath.

As your awareness settles,

Your body settles,

Your mind settles.

Allow yourself to go deeper.

Allow yourself to go deeper and become more and more silent.

Let this stillness grow.

Let this silence grow,

While you remain aware of your breath.

Let your awareness settle on your breath.

Breath flowing in and out.

Simply remain aware of your breath.

In this silence,

You have no name.

In this stillness,

You have no description.

Only awareness of your breath.

Let go and remain aware of your breath.

With every breath,

Deeper,

Deeper,

Deeper.

Now slowly leave the breath and just remain aware of nothing in particular.

Leave all objects.

Just remain aware.

Let go of everything in this awareness,

In this silence.

Stay like this.

No more movement.

Allow yourself to relax more in this awareness,

In this silence.

Now shift your awareness to somewhere outside your body,

As if you are watching yourself sitting here.

Your body is still,

Your mind is silent and you are observing that from outside.

Let this awareness expand to the entire room.

Just observe this entire group sitting here,

Silent,

Aware.

Allow your awareness to expand more if it wishes to expand more.

Let go of everything in this awareness,

In this silence.

Stay like this.

And gently bring your awareness back to your body.

Feel the breath flowing in your body.

Feel the sensations in your body.

For a moment,

Take your awareness to the middle of your eyebrows on your forehead.

And feel if there are any sensations there.

Now back to your breath.

Your body is silent,

Your mind is silent and the breath flows in and out.

With this sense of centeredness,

If you like you may open your eyes.

And feel the breath flowing in your body.

If you want to move your legs,

Give your body time to become active again.

We have now just a couple of minutes left before we close the session.

And this is where I open the session for you to share if there is anything to share out of your meditation.

If there are any questions,

Anything that came up during the meditation which you are not clear about,

Anything regarding anything.

Just a couple of minutes before we close the session.

Anyone?

I hope you enjoyed the experience.

I hope you could let yourself be more still.

I hope you can notice the difference in your inner being,

In your awareness,

In your stillness,

In your silence from the moment you entered this room to now.

I hope you can bring this into your life more than just these sessions that are happening on Mondays.

Anyone who wants to share or ask?

Alright then.

It was a pleasure for me to sit with you in this silence.

The energy that is created when so many of us come together and sit silently is just beautiful.

I hope to see you once again next Monday.

Thank you very much.

Namaste.

Wonderful! I entered the space of no 'silence' and no 'stillness'. I seldom reach the stillpoint. Today I enjoyed several minutes of grace. Thank you so much! For showing me the way. I will be back for sure. πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ™πŸΌπŸŽΆπŸŽ΅πŸ˜Š

Wonderful experience. When the session ended, I was almost there with the group virtually. Felt stillness quite profoundly. Isn't the stillness, especially when experienced with thoughtlessness, formlessness? Actually this duality of the nature of our existence is when noted is powerful and liberating. Namaste πŸ™
