Originating from the Zen Buddhist tradition, this meditation involves settling the awareness on the movement of the breath, and assigning each breath with a count. The practitioner continues to a count of ten breaths and then reverts again to one. If at any time you feel your awareness being pulled by a thought or blurring focus, you simply start again at 'one'. This practice is excellent at revealing the nature of thought and awareness, and also strengthens the concentration abilities.
