Aumantra.
Settle into your meditation position,
Posture,
Whether it be lying down or seated.
Ensure that you have a long elongated spine,
Nothing tight or forced.
It's an elegance in the spine,
Shoulders down and back.
If you're lying on the floor,
Remove the pillow from behind your head and wiggle into an alignment between the tailbone,
Spinal column,
Upper vertebrae and the back of the head.
Feel into that alignment as much as possible.
And now as you're breathing,
Bring all of your awareness to the solar plexus,
Manipura.
And have the feeling that you're moving your awareness into the space between the back of the navel and the spine.
Feel into this chakra,
Confidence,
Personal power,
Autonomy,
Volition,
Your will.
And now from this place of Manipura,
We'll chant together the first sound of the Aumantra,
The sound A.
I have the feeling that you're emanating this mantra from your navel itself.
And you're ready now.
A lovely long inhalation down the length of your body.
And again,
A long breath down the length of the body.
One more time,
Breathing all the way down,
Filling the solar plexus with the breath.
And take a moment to observe the effect of the mantra on Manipura.
Some of you will sense a feeling of space within the solar plexus.
Others will perceive heat,
An easing,
A sense of opening.
Now move all of your awareness to the heart center.
You can visualize your heart beating in your chest.
Visualize the lungs around it filling and emptying with air.
The beautiful heart center,
Anahata,
The seat of love,
The space of compassion,
Loving kindness,
Forgiveness and love.
And now breathing into this center,
We're going to sound the second movement of Aumantra,
The sound OO.
It's correspondent with the heart center,
Anahata.
When you're ready now,
A lovely inhalation all the way down the length of the body.
And again,
Big inhalation.
One more time,
Breathing in.
And take a moment to observe the energy in the heart center,
Anahata,
Activated by the mantra.
A longer,
Deeper breath,
A feeling of spaciousness,
Perhaps emotion.
And finally now bringing your awareness to the eyebrow center,
The energy center,
Agnya,
Centered right in the middle of the brain,
Our center of thought,
Learning,
Visioning and dreaming.
And sounding from this center now,
The third and final part of the Aumantra,
The MMM.
So keeping lips closed and jaws soft and have the feeling that this vibration is filling the whole of the skull,
Eye sockets,
The mouth,
The throat,
The upper chest.
When you're ready now,
A lovely inhalation down the length of the body.
And again,
Breathing in.
One more time,
Breathing in.
Observe the vibration within this center generated by the mantra,
An easing of the thought field,
Perception of that vast space behind closed eyes.
And now we bring the three parts of Aumantra together in one continuous movement of sound,
Starting at the solar plexus,
The panipura with A.
And as we move the sound through to the heart sound,
Psychically draw your awareness from the solar plexus to the heart.
And then finally,
A move up into Agnya,
The third eye with the sound MMM.
So together we'll chant Aum three times and then allow yourself to be free with your own rhythm,
Your own pace,
Your own vibrational wave and continuously chant Aum for the remainder of the practice.
When you're ready now,
Taking a lovely inhalation down the length of the body.
Feel into the long tail of the mantra,
Spiraling around every cell and all the spaces in between,
Long after the sound has gone.
Organizing,
Harmonizing,
Healing.
