This meditation is a spiritual practice of letting go of what no longer serves us…situations, thoughts, habits, illness, and even unhealthy people. In it, we visualize cutting the chords of unhelpful external attachments and imagine washing away any internal negative energy. We then invite in more light, love, happiness, healing, and whatever it is we want most for ourselves. This is a powerful practice in renewal and manifestation for the New Year.

Welcome,

This is a practice in letting go of things that no longer serve you.

They could be physical,

Emotional or mental.

For example,

If you've just gone through a breakup or you're trying to distance yourself from people who are not healthy for you to be around,

You might do this practice.

If you're someone facing illness,

You might be letting go of physical pain,

Imagining any toxins leaving the body,

Letting go of any emotional attachments to make space for health and healing.

Or perhaps there is some type of habit that you're trying to overcome.

Being in the physical world or even negative self-talk on the inside.

Whatever it is,

This practice is a visualization in letting go.

For those who have done a cutting the cord meditation,

You might be familiar with some of the techniques we'll use.

In general,

I'm going to have you visualize on the outside little strings attached to you,

Almost like they're these tiny cords that attach you to other situations and things that are apart from you.

And we do a practice in kind of plucking them,

Let them melt away or fall away.

While I will give you a couple of cues,

Change this imagery in any way that makes sense for you.

So you might look at each situation one at a time,

Or you might do just this canvassing of your entire body and letting everything fall away at once.

It'll make sense once we get into this activity.

And when we focus on the inside internally,

I'll give you some imagery about washing away anything that doesn't serve,

And inviting in more light and health and the things that you do want to bring into your life.

Again,

This is a spiritual practice,

And you're invited to tie it into whatever you believe about yourself and the world around you.

A gentle reminder,

If any of this becomes emotionally too much,

Or you feel uncomfortable in any way,

Please stop.

You can always return to this at another time.

So let's begin.

We begin by sitting comfortably in a chair,

Sitting on the floor or lying down.

Our hands can be resting in our lap or out at our side.

And the first thing we do is tune inward,

Focusing on our breath.

If it's available to you breathing in and out through your nose,

And you're not seeking to control the breath in any way,

You're simply breathing in and breathing out.

And now we turn our attention to our external environment.

And we begin by creating kind of a buffer or a space between whatever we're calling to mind,

Reminding ourselves that we are safe in this moment.

In your mind's eye,

Start to gather around you at a distance,

Some of the things that you might want to work to let go of.

They could be people,

Or events,

Physical objects.

Any kind of experience in the external world.

Imagine those things gathering around you at a safe distance.

And as much as possible,

You're allowing yourself to distance emotionally and not attach any emotions or thoughts to the experience.

And as whatever it is in the external environment gathers,

You might be surprised that some things or people or situations surface that you did not expect.

Just honor it and hold this moment.

I'd like you to imagine that there are these little,

Tiny,

Almost invisible strings.

And they're reaching out from your body and attaching to these things around you.

Perhaps you didn't even notice that they were attached to you.

And they could be attached to your arms,

Your legs,

Your back,

Your head.

In your mind's eye,

Notice how you might be attached to these different things around you,

Either by a single string or cord,

Or maybe more than one.

I'm going to be quiet for a couple of minutes.

And in this time,

You might choose to let them all go at once,

Or work through them one at a time.

The exercise is allowing those cords to melt away,

Or you physically imagine you're plucking them.

And as you cut those cords,

Detach them,

Let them melt.

Imagine that that person,

Experience,

Event,

Or thing vanishes into the background.

You might find that some situations are harder to detach from than others.

Do the best you can.

And if there's one that's nagging,

We can return to this activity at another time and redo this mindfulness activity.

So now,

As you mentally scan the outside of your body,

Noticing,

Hopefully,

That all of those cords have melted away,

And all of those situations have faded into the background,

And now we turn inward.

And we call to mind anything on the inside that does not serve us.

And you might notice those little energies in places where there's ill health.

Could be in your mind if there are negative thoughts.

Notice what physical and emotional things come up for you.

Notice what thoughts surface for you.

For some people,

Those areas that they want to work on show up as a color,

Or perhaps a little gray area.

Recognize it,

And call to mind what areas internally you'd like to work on letting go of some negativity that might be housed there.

Remembering that you are safe,

And you control your experience.

Breathe in and breathe out.

Now I'd like you to imagine that you're now outside,

And there's a little sunshower overhead.

As you breathe in and as you breathe out,

Let that warm rain wash through your body.

And as it does,

Picture it washing away those areas that you're seeking to free yourself from.

Visualize in any way that works for you,

Those negative thoughts,

Feelings,

And emotions washing into the earth,

Washing through you,

Cleansing you.

Now as you're doing this internal cleansing,

Perhaps focusing on everything at once or one at a time,

Keep rinsing away.

Rinse the outside of your body as well.

Imagine it coming and washing over you and through you.

So if there's any residue of anything that's negative from the external environment or the internal,

You're washing it away now.

You're allowing that energy to go into the earth to be recycled for a better purpose.

You don't need it.

Now let those images go for a moment,

Breathing in and breathing out.

And notice that now you have so much space to invite in more of what you want,

Whether that's more peace,

More energy,

More health.

So imagine now the rain has passed and the sun has come out,

And it's spreading this warm light that passes over your body and through your body.

And it's energizing you.

It's healing you.

It's shining a light on some spaces in the body that you've now made room for.

More love,

More peace,

A sense of confidence,

A sense of power.

Notice what shows up for you.

Now letting all of those thoughts go,

Taking a final minute here,

Just sitting with our breath,

Feeling a deep sense of calm,

A deep sense of peace.

And as we end this meditation,

Feeling yourself being complete and whole and healed,

And feeling supported by the earth and the universe around you in whatever way that makes sense for you.

You're calling to mind what supports you and gives you strength.

And carry that strength throughout the rest of this day.

You can open your eyes whenever you're ready,

Coming back into the room.

Thank you for joining me.

For me, this was an effective, gently guided approach to a guilt-free letting go. Released and cleansed, the power of external attachments and sticky internal sensations, emotions and thoughts left, or their grip lessened. I will definitely add this practice to my self-care toolkit. Thank you for this offering. Namaste...🕊️😌🕊️

One thing—not everyone can visualize and I want to raise awareness with wonderful people like you - it’s Aphantasia. “… the inability to form or use visual mental imagery. It's a cognitive difference, not a medical condition, where people struggle to picture things in their minds. While individuals with aphantasia can still think, remember, and process information through other means, they lack the ability to create visual mental images. Elaboration: What is Aphantasia? Aphantasia is the condition where people don't experience mental imagery, or the ability to visualize things in their minds. Not a Disability: Experts don't classify aphantasia as a disorder or disability, but rather a natural difference in how the brain processes information. Visual Imagery Deficit: The primary symptom is the lack of visual imagery, meaning individuals with aphantasia cannot easily picture objects, scenes, or people in their minds. Other Sensory Experiences: Aphantasia can also affect other senses beyond vision, such as the mind's ear or the mind's fingertip. Memory and Imagination: Aphantasia can impact memory and the ability to imagine, but it doesn't necessarily prevent thinking or processing information in other ways, such as through words, sounds, or numbers. Potential Overlap with Other Conditions: Research suggests a potential link between aphantasia and conditions like autism and synesthesia, but more research is needed.” - Source : Verywellmind
