This is a practice from Rick Hansen's book,
Resilient,
And it's called Feeling Safer Now.
So take some breaths.
And just really relax in whatever position feels good for you right now.
Perhaps lying down.
Or sitting upright in a chair.
Just be mindful.
Of any tension.
And worry and uneasiness.
And just step back from it.
By observing it.
And just let it be there.
And let it come,
Let it go.
Put fear in any form,
Move it to the background of your awareness.
And now bring to mind the things that protect you and have this in the foreground of your mind and just let any form of anxiety ease away into the background.
Become aware of the stability of the chair or the bed.
And the solidity of the floor beneath your feet.
The walls and the shelter of the roof above your head.
Other things that protect you,
Like clothing,
Shoes.
Just open yourself to feeling increasingly protected.
And also be aware of the other things that are there to protect you like stop signs in the street,
Hospitals,
Doctors.
Keep opening to feeling protected.
Allow that sense of protection and safety to sink in.
Becoming a part of you.
Recognize the resources in your life.
People who wish you well.
People who want you.
To be happy and healthy.
Recognize some resources inside you,
Perhaps endurance and determination.
It could be from something else you've experienced that can be brought around again to experience something different.
Come open to that feeling that there is a lot that you can draw on.
And challenges will come in different forms,
But you have many ways of dealing with them.
Keep opening to feeling safer.
Let needless worry fall away.
Letting go of any tension.
Letting that sense of safety sink in and spread inside you.
Notice you are basically all right,
Right now.
You might not have been in the past.
And you might have challenges in the future,
But right now,
In this moment,
You are okay.
And protected and resourced.
And there might be some pain or hurt or sorrow off to the edges of your mind.
Just letting them go.
Right now,
There's no mortal threat.
There's no tiger about to pounce.
You are fundamentally safe.
Moment after moment.
Breath after breath.
Your heart is still beating.
And you're going on living.
You're still alright.
Let thoughts and feelings just come and go as they do.
You're still breathing just fine.
This moment and the next moment passing through.
Still okay.
Safe now.
Safe in this moment.
Moment after moment.
Right?
