GLAD is an exercise of the MBSR program (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction). GLAD stands for Gratitude, Learn, Accomplishment, and Delight. The aim of the GLAD exercise is to develop a feeling of love, kindness, and goodwill. You focus your attention on positive thoughts and feelings of love, kindness, and goodwill towards yourself, other people, and the world in general. By cultivating these positive qualities and giving them space, your mind and heart can open up and a sense of connection and compassion can arise. Please note that it is important to practice MBSR exercises such as the GLAD exercise regularly in order to fully experience its benefits.

Welcome to the GLAD meditation.

This is an informal meditation,

Meaning it takes just a couple minutes and we can do it anytime and anywhere.

GLAD is an acronym,

It stands for gratitude,

Learn,

Accomplishment and delight.

Now we do this informal practice together.

If it feels right,

You might want to gently close your eyes.

So now starting with gratitude,

Simply becoming aware of one thing that you are thankful for today.

Might be a small thing,

Might be a bigger thing.

Then moving on and bringing to mind one new thing that you've learned today.

Then becoming aware of one small accomplishment you did today.

And finally becoming aware of one thing of delight that touched you today.

And when you are ready,

Gently opening the eyes and coming back to the room.

This meditation is now complete.
