A visual meditation to help you let go of the anxiety that has been holding you back and even perhaps controlling your life. Let go of your anxiety on a beach, where you watch the anxiety get taken away into a short storm.

Closing your eyes too,

Filling your lungs all the way up and releasing and relaxing,

Breathing in and breathing out and just letting go of the day,

Letting go of where you are,

Letting go of past week,

Past month,

Past years and just relax and sink down,

Sink down into wherever you've sat or laid and just be here,

Just be present,

Just be you,

Allow your body to relax,

Release and let go of any tension,

If there are any tight muscles or tension just give yourself permission to let go of that feeling,

Physically allow your body to drop your shoulders,

Drop all of your facial muscles,

Let go,

Dance in the wind,

Be cradled by the breeze,

Arms wide,

Heart open,

The day is heavy,

Anxiety weighs the weight of the earth but around you the air is light,

Let life be like a slowdown,

Be in each moment,

Flow with ease and go with flow,

This is not your ending,

This is just the path to a new beginning,

Anxiety seems controlling,

It's the biggest bully you know,

It may have meant something one time and maybe at one time you felt it was there as a warning to you that something wasn't quite right and that something felt wrong but now it seems stuck and it's heavy and it gets in the way and you don't like it but it seems to like you,

You don't have to live with it,

Anxiety doesn't have to be a part of your life,

No matter if someone has told you it does,

After a while anxiety becomes a habit,

Not through your own choice of course but because the brain gets stuck in a cycle,

It is reminded by the anxiety that once before you felt anxious in this scenario and so you might feel anxious again or you had negative thoughts in a certain place and so each time you go to that place you have those same negative thoughts,

Perhaps you didn't feel well one time you were out to a certain place and so again the anxiety steps in and warns you,

You may feel like that again or you do go there again and the same thing happens and so it becomes a habit,

Your mind forgets to let it go,

It forgets that every time you go to that place it doesn't have to be the same,

It could be new and it can be different,

Anxiety tells you that you should be fearful of that situation and similar situations,

Tells you you should be scared,

That you should stay safe and that you should stay at home but have you noticed that it feels uncomfortable having anxiety?

That's because anxiety doesn't belong to you,

It isn't yours to have and it isn't yours to keep,

I want you to think of anxiety as something separate to you,

Could be a bag you picked up but forgot to put down,

Could be a piece of coal,

It could be a heavy rock,

Whatever you choose will be right for you,

See it now and see it clearly,

The object you have chosen is the anxiety,

It represents all the uncomfortable feelings you've been experiencing,

Now think of all those uncomfortable occasions anxiety has caused you,

All the things it has possibly made you miss,

All the times it made you want to run away,

All the times it has made your body feel uncomfortable,

Now remember that anxiety comes in many shapes and forms,

It's not always just thoughts,

It can be physical feelings too,

So see it now,

Feel it now,

All in that object that you have chosen,

It's time,

It's time to let go,

It's time to let go of the anxiety,

It's no longer yours to keep,

It's not yours,

Take a deep breath,

Fill your lungs all the way up and let go,

If you can imagine standing on the most beautiful beat,

The sand is as yellow as the sun,

The ocean is as blue as the deep sky and surrounding you is the most beautiful warm breeze,

Feel it now,

See yourself there and on the beach there is a blanket just for you,

It's laid perfectly on the sand and on the blanket is a basket and in the basket are some of your most favorite things to eat and drink and here you are safe,

Here you are safe,

There is no one around,

This beach is all for you,

It's your private beach and only you are here and you start to wander,

You simply walk and wander and wander and walk,

Listening to the sound of the waves,

Feeling the gentle warm breeze pass over you,

Noticing the sun shining gently down on your face and as you walk and wander you see in the distance that there is a small wooden rowing boat moored on the sand,

You wander over to have a look at this lovely old boat and you realize that this boat is yours,

It belongs to you and you look inside and there is a big piece of tarpaulin covering something over,

Feeling safe and confident because you are,

You pull the tarpaulin back and see that underneath there is a cloud,

A beautiful lilac cloud and this cloud had been kept inside and underneath the tarpaulin for some time now but it belongs to you,

It's your lilac cloud and you feel it is and you feel that this cloud holds something of yours that you've wanted for such a long time now but you just didn't know where it had gone,

Here it is,

You found it and slowly and gently the beautiful lilac cloud floats up and out of the boat and gently floats above you and just by instinct you know that it's now time,

It's now time for change,

For things in your life to be different,

You know at this point that it's time to let go of the anxiety that has been keeping you trapped,

Keeping you away from what you want and what you need,

Can you remember that object that you thought of earlier,

The object that represented all of the anxiety that you had been experiencing,

The negative self-defeating thoughts,

The physical discomfort,

All the times it stopped you from doing what you wanted to do,

Perhaps behave in a way that you didn't want to behave,

Perhaps you've lost friends or family because they didn't understand,

Maybe you've missed out,

Maybe you feel well and truly fed up and so yes,

It's time now,

Time to let go because it doesn't belong to you,

It never has done and it never will do,

It's just something that gets picked up and then sometimes we forget that we can put it down and we can let anxiety go,

Take the object into your hands and look at it and know that once upon a time it tried to help you but now it's not,

It has passed the ability to be of any use to you in your life and now it's old and stale and useless,

Put the object that represents the anxiety you've been experiencing into the boat and see it now,

See it as nothing more than a representation of what was,

Of what used to be,

Look how small it seems,

Look how unspecial it is,

Like when a bully gets named and found out,

You're now seeing it in its true light as nothing more than something you picked up and forgot to put down but now you've recognized it,

Now you can see what it really is for its true self and know that it's not you and now you can see it as no longer a part of you but something you have put down,

Something you have let go of and sometimes it can feel hard to let it go,

Sometimes it becomes familiar there but over time it just sucks the life out of you,

It takes you so far away from home you can't find your way back but it's time now to go back and to be reminded what you are like without anxiety,

To remember that your life is good,

Your life is so good without anxiety and now it's time for healing,

Time for change,

Time for you,

Put it all in the boat and now push the boat off the shore so that it sails into the ocean but can you see something so different as the boat sets off,

Not a single ripple from the boat is made,

Not one and you just watch as the boat drifts away,

Just watch it leave,

Just watch it leave,

Getting further and further into the distance,

Notice your beautiful lilac cloud above you,

Feel its presence,

Recognize how beautiful and perfect it is and then you notice that from within you your body is raining grains of grey,

Grains of grey are being lifted out of your body like you are raining into the cloud itself above you and as each grain of grey leaves you a real sense of relief and lightness comes over you,

The cloud is taking everything you don't want,

It's taking it all away like you are being freed and you're letting go of any residual anxiety and you are left feeling free as you just rain up to the cloud,

You just let go,

You just let go and you see that the lilac cloud turns grey like a big dark dark thunder cloud and when you've let your last grain of grey go the cloud moves away and you watch it floating over to the boat that's in the middle of the ocean and then it stops directly above the boat and it rains and rains and rains and you hear the thunder rolling and the lightning crashing all onto the boat that's drifting out to sea without a ripple in sight and then everything is gone,

It's all gone and you are free and you feel safe and secure and comfortable.

Now wander back over to the beautiful blanket and sit down and just gaze out over the ocean,

Watch the sun as it gently sets knowing that you are home,

Knowing that you are free and knowing that this is the beginning,

Enveloped within complete freedom and within you there is a space,

A feeling that seems quite new and enjoyable and you sit down on the soft warm sun and take a deep breath and you just see where you are and in the distance you see our beautiful lilac cloud which has released all of the grey grains and is now lilac again and it's so beautiful and so vibrant and it floats back over to you and is above you and you can see flickering down from the cloud that there is a flake,

A little lilac flake and as you hold your palm out and catch it,

It's soft and warm and gentle,

It's not wet and it's not water,

It's just light and soft,

Hold both palms out and catch all the lilac flakes now that fall into the center of your hands and hold them all and these flakes begin to cover you all over and it feels so good,

So good,

So calming,

Full of love and you feel safe and secure in the knowledge that you are free,

You are free,

You are free and notice how you feel,

Notice how there is space within you now and feel that feeling,

Be with that feeling,

Own that feeling,

For it is yours,

The cloud gives you the confidence,

The self-love,

Self-assurance,

Contentment,

Joy,

Happiness,

Peace,

Self-love,

Feelings that are so good,

So freeing and feelings that you've wanted for a long time,

This is the new you,

For you are free,

You are free,

This is exactly the guided meditation I needed to hear and embody today. I've lived with and tried to manage bouts of anxiety for most of my life. I am now 69 and my anxiety is increasingly debilitating. This meditation helped me to understand so much about how this all started, how I coped and how this doesn't have to be the way I live for the rest of my life.
