Welcome to this meditation for grounding after overwhelm.
In moments when life feels chaotic,
Your mind races,
Or your emotions become too much,
Grounding can help you reconnect to your body,
Calm your mind,
And find stability in the present moment.
During this practice we will use breath,
Visualization,
And body awareness to soothe your nervous system and bring you back to a place of balance.
Find a comfortable seated position or lie down in a space where you feel supported.
Allow yourself to settle in and take a deep,
Calming breath,
Expanding your belly fully and exhaling,
Sigh it all out.
Begin by gently closing your eyes and turning your attention to your breath.
Take another long,
Slow inhale through your nose,
Allowing your chest and belly to expand.
Now exhale slowly and fully through your mouth,
Imagining that you are releasing the weight of overwhelm with your breath.
Inhale deeply,
Draw in fresh,
Calm energy.
Hold.
Feel the stillness and exhale completely,
Let go of the tension,
Heaviness,
And stress.

Bring your attention now to your arms,
Hands,
And fingers.
Notice how they feel tingly,
Warm,
Heavy,
And allow them to relax completely.
Your chest and your belly noticing the rise and fall of your breath.
Down your spine and lower back and hips,
Any tightness,
Any tightness at all.
Let any of that tightness melt away.
Down your thighs,
Your knees,
Calves,
And all the way down to your feet.
Feel the weight of your body being fully supported by the ground or surface beneath you.
You are safe.
You are here.
You are supported.
Now,
In your mind's eye,
Imagine yourself standing barefoot in a beautiful forest or open meadow.
Beneath your feet,
The ground is solid and cool.
Visualize strong roots extending from the soles of your feet,
Growing deep into the earth.
With each breath,
These roots grow thicker,
Anchoring you,
Connecting you to the earth's steady energy.
Feel the strength of the earth rising through these roots up into your legs,
Filling you with stability.
You are like a tree,
Strong,
Grounded,
Unwavering.
Now,
Bring your awareness to your spine.
Imagine it as the trunk of your tree,
Tall and straight and steady.
With each inhale,
Feel yourself growing taller,
More confident,
And resilient.
With each exhale,
Your roots deepen,
Grounding you even further.
As you stand in this peaceful place,
Notice how the sensations of overwhelm begin to fade.
The steady energy of the earth fills you with calm,
Peace,
And balance.
You are rooted.
You are strong.
You are grounded.
Stand in that energy for a few moments,
Feeling that steady and unshakeable energy taking root.
Now,
Imagine the earth beneath you pulling away any remaining feelings of stress,
Anxiety,
Overwhelm,
Heaviness,
Confusion,
Doubt.
Visualize this energy as a dark cloud or heavy weight being gently drawn through the roots,
Through your roots,
And into the ground.
The earth knows how to transform this energy into calm and peace,
Like a river clearing the debris from its path.
And with each exhale,
Feel this heaviness leaving your body,
Traveling down through your feet and into the earth.
With each inhale,
Draw in renewed energy,
Filling you with a sense of clarity and calm.
Now,
You are releasing anything,
Everything that no longer serves you.
Now,
You welcome peace and ease and flow.
Allow yourself to feel lighter and freer with each breath.
Now that you feel calm and connected,
Take a moment to set a simple intention to carry with you.
This intention can be a word,
Phrase,
Or feeling that helps you remain steady and grounded as you move forward.
You may choose peace.
You may choose to be centered.
Trust in your ability to handle what comes your way.
Repeat your intention to yourself,
Letting it settle into your heart.
Imagine this intention anchoring you,
A calm presence that you can return to whenever life feels overwhelming.
Begin to bring your awareness back to the present moment.
Feel the surface beneath you and the steadiness of the ground supporting you.
Take a slow deep breath in and exhale fully.
Gently wiggle your fingers and toes,
Inviting movement back into your body.
When you feel ready,
Slowly open your eyes.
Take a moment to notice how you feel.
Lighter,
Calmer,
Deeply grounded.
As you move through your day,
Remember that you can always return to this sense of calm and stability.
The earth beneath you is constant and your breath is always available to anchor you.
