Holding Your Darkness With Compassion
by Chana Mason
A gentle, trauma-informed guided meditation for self-compassion and emotional healing. In this practice, you’ll soften inner criticism, release shame, and build a calmer relationship with the parts of you that feel stuck in addictive patterns, self-sabotage, anxiety, or harsh self-judgment. Through simple breath awareness and embodied grounding, you’ll learn to meet yourself with warmth and kindness—supporting more regulation, acceptance, and inner safety. We begin with a brief reflection on how judgment often creates shutdown or defensiveness, and why compassion, witnessing, and trust are more effective pathways to real change. Then you’ll be guided to place a hand on your heart and belly, connect with your breath, and gently hold one inner “part” in steady, supportive presence until it feels seen, heard, and understood. Inspired by the work of Dr Mark Wolynn and Dr Simcha Shapiro, with elements informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS) and somatic therapy.
