Taking a breath comes naturally,
But asking someone to just breathe isn't as easy as it seems.
It could be hard.
Might be challenging.
Thoughts won't ease.
Body won't rest.
Emotions aren't controlled.
Overwhelming nights.
I ask that you embrace it.
I ask that you accept it.
Whatever comes in the moment,
Allow it to be.
It's when you try to control it,
The breath and everything that comes along with it,
This process becomes more difficult.
If taking a breath feels hard,
Like something you aren't able to do right now,
Sit with that.
Ask yourself what you need.
How can you get from this point to where you want to be?
What needs to change?
What needs to stop?
What needs to be released?
Take a moment and consider it.
If the next breath feels too hard to control,
If the thoughts are still swirling,
If your mind won't settle and your body won't ease,
Ask yourself,
What's left?
What am I holding on to?
And take another moment to consider it.
Continue digging deeper,
Asking the questions,
Responding to yourself as necessary.
Because it's not just a breath.
It's ease.
It's calm.
It's peace.
And all that deserves the space it needs to sit with you.
But only after you release what is no longer serving you.
Stay here for a moment until you can take that breath.
