This short meditation is practiced face to face with your child (ages 4 to 6 years). It is about learning how to practice loving-kindness meditation together and the value of eye contact and connection. Share the experience of compassion with your child.

Okay lovely,

So sitting up nice and tall we're going to do a meditation for children.

So once you're in a cross-legged position just start to place your hands on your belly,

Got your hands there,

Great,

And then from here start to breathe into your hands.

When you breathe in can you feel your belly inflate like a nice balloon?

And then when you breathe out see if the belly comes back towards the spine,

Towards your back.

When you breathe in the belly inflates like a balloon,

When you breathe out it comes back towards your spine.

Can you feel that?

That's good.

Okay then from here we're going to start to breathe out through the mouth,

So we're going to do something different.

So we're going to breathe in like a whistle,

Can you try that?

Breathe in like a whistle,

Like you're breathing through a straw,

Yeah,

And then be like a big gust of wind.

Okay we try together,

Breathe in through a straw,

Big gust of wind.

Again you try,

Breathe out,

Big gust of wind.

Okay so from here we're going to try giggling meditation and see how we feel with that.

You're going to have a little bit of a laugh.

You try?

Oh I can see you laughing.

And then see if you can do your biggest smile ever with your eyes like this.

Can you do that?

Oh good,

There's a big smile.

And then we're going to come down and roll around on the floor,

So do you want to come down all the way to lie on your back?

Come down,

Lie on your back.

Yeah that's it,

And then see if you can roll around and massage your back.

Yeah nice,

And then try that laughing again.

Ah,

In,

And then we'll come up to seated again.

Yeah come up to seated and then place your hands back to your belly and then close your eyes down if you feel comfortable to do so and just say to yourself really gently,

I love you,

I love you.

And we send ourselves compassion and love and kindness,

Really hoping that we're well and our family's well and that everything in our lives is gentle and kind to us.
