The awareness exercise is a simple practice which is very old and helps in gaining the ability to become truly still. This ability to become truly still helps to bring about a greater depth of experience, and so the stillness that is sought is not just stillness at a physical level, but also stillness of the heart and mind. It is recommended that you practise the exercise twice each day.

The awareness exercise.

This exercise is a simple practice which is very old and helps in gaining the ability to become truly still.

This ability to become truly still helps to bring about a greater depth of experience and so the stillness that is sought is not just stillness at a physical level but also stillness of the heart and mind.

First find a balanced position of the body.

Ensure that you feel supported.

Becoming aware of where you are right now.

Feel the touch of your feet on the ground.

The weight of your body being supported by the chair or the surface beneath you.

Feel the air on your face.

Tuning into the sense of sound.

Becoming aware of anything that you can hear.

Sounds closest and furthest away.

Letting sounds arise and fall without any judgment or comment and an awareness of the space within sounds.

Now tuning into the sense of sight and whether your eyes are open or closed.

Becoming aware of color,

Light and shade and form.

Once again letting the eyes receive whatever's here without comment or judgment.

Tuning into the sense of smell and the sense of taste.

Tuning into your senses allows you to be fully here,

Present right now and simply resting in this awareness for a few moments.
