Tree Hugger by Jimmy Osborne I came across a gnarled tree,
With broken limbs and wilted leaves.
Its weathered bark,
With scars beneath,
Reminded me of me.
I had a great epiphany,
And in an act of empathy,
I wrapped my arms around her trunk and wept below her canopy,
Questioning my sanity.
I felt the heart beneath her bark,
Living,
Breathing,
Into me.
And in that moment I could see,
I'm not so different from the tree.
And I found peace,
Sinking into silken grass,
Listening to an earthen symphony,
Raindrops dripping on the ground around me.
The sound of nature's timpani,
Resting my eyes on the forest floor,
Restored once more to sanity.
I awaken with a gentle roar and a feeling of transcendency.
