Patience
"Patience is a virtue." There is no doubt. So what do we need to do? We need to return to the moment. Be mindful. Be aware of what is, instead of focusing on what may happen, what we want to happen or what hasnβt happened as yet. And why is being patient in life so important? Simply put, patience is important because it makes us pay attention, to be fully aware, and therefore responsible for all decisions we make, and all that we do.

Welcome to this mindfulness practice focusing on the quality of patience.

We are used to things happening now.
And if our computer slows down,
We mislay our smartphone,
Or our email doesn't work,
God forbid,
The frustration and angst can be almost crippling.
What has happened?
Have we lost our capacity to accept or tolerate delay?
Do we have to resolve all issues and annihilate all obstacles right this second?
What becomes of us if we don't?
Are we going to suffer,
Become annoyed or anxious just because this world of convenience has not satisfied our needs instantaneously?
Can we not endure discomfort without complaining and driving ourselves nuts?
Have we lost our ability to be patient?
We can restore this quality,
You know,
So that we can live our lives with greater tranquility and as a result experience greater joy.
And in doing so,
We can live our lives with greater tranquility and as a result experience greater joy.
And in doing so,
We can also enhance qualities such as kindness and tenderness.
Patience is a virtue.
There is no doubt.
To return to the moment,
To be mindful,
Be aware of what is instead of focusing on what may happen,
What we want to happen or what hasn't happened as yet.
And so lying down or sitting peacefully and with full awareness,
Softly close your eyes.
Gently roll your head from side to side,
Relaxing the back of the neck,
The throat and the shoulders.
Open up through the chest as though your heart is reaching out to the farthest corner of the room.
Imagine you are softening your whole body.
Inhale and fill the body with breath.
Exhale and release all tension and fatigue.
Release your chatty mind into the ether.
And now come out of your head space and into your body.
Bring your attention to your toes.
Gently relax the toes,
The soles of the feet,
The tops of the feet,
The heels,
The ankles.
As you breathe out,
Exhale all tension from the feet.
Relax your calves and shins.
Sense the spaces behind the knees.
Relax the back of the thighs,
The front of the thighs.
Relax your buttocks.
Release all tension.
It's as though you're falling down.
Feel the lower back and allow it to soften.
The middle back,
The upper back,
The lower back,
The lower back,
The upper back.
Falling,
Falling.
Sense the lower back and allow it to soften.
The middle back,
The upper back,
Let go.
And to draw your attention to the hands,
Soften your fingers one by one.
Sense a gentle pulsing in the palms of your hands.
You may sense a tingling or pulsing or warmth or cool.
Relax the wrists and notice the energy flowing around the wrists.
Relax the lower arms to the upper arms to the shoulders.
Drop your concerns,
The weight of the world,
The burdens and worries.
Come into the moment and release all that abides you.
Bring your awareness to your face.
Drop the jaw.
Soften the cheeks.
Relax the wings of the nose.
The sides of the nose,
The bridge of the nose.
Soften your eyes above the eyes,
Behind the eyes,
Deep within the eyes.
Relax the forehead from temple to temple,
Smoothing out all frown lines and restoring your mind to a state of calm.
And bring your awareness to the back of your head and around behind the ears,
Up through the hairline to the crown of the head.
Sense softness,
Calmness,
Calmness,
Calmness.
Bring your awareness up through the hairline to the crown of the head.
Sense softness,
Calm and harmony at the crown of the head.
Let me guide you along the path of nurturing patience.
As you breathe in and out,
Deeply and slowly,
Hear my words.
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
Slow down.
Slow down.
Let go.
Let go.
Things take time.
Things take time.
What really matters?
What really matters?
Everything will be okay.
Everything will be okay.
And if your mind has wandered off,
Just bring it back to the breath,
The breath,
The breath,
The calming breath.
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
Peacefully.
Calmly.
Be patient.
Be patient.
Be patient.
Let life evolve.
Let life evolve.
In this moment,
This tranquil moment,
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
Slow down.
Slow down.
Let go.
Let go.
Let go.
Things take time.
Things take time.
What really matters?
What really matters?
Everything will be okay.
And if the mind is frolicking about,
Patiently guide it back to the present.
As though you were taking a small child by the hand and guiding it back to safety.
Be patient.
Be patient.
Let life evolve.
Let life evolve.
Let life evolve.
Peacefully.
Calmly.
As you remain silent for a little while as you come into the moment and allow this calm to permeate every aspect of your being.
You'll hear my voice soon again.
Enjoy.
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
Patient.
Let life evolve.
Let life evolve.
Be patient.
Be patient.
Let life evolve.
Let life evolve.
In this moment.
This tranquil moment.
Slow down.
Slow down.
Slow down.
Things take time.
Things take time.
Let be.
Let be.
Let be.
And once again be aware of being in your body.
And once again be aware of being in your body.
Gently draw your hands to your heart.
Rest one on top of the other and notice the beating of your heart.
Notice how you're feeling.
Slow down whenever you feel impatient.
Breathe slowly and mindfully and come into the present.
Clear your mind so that you can understand your behavior.
And focus clearly and gently upon your next course of action.
And as A.
A.
Milne wrote in his glorious work Winnie the Pooh.
Rivers know this.
There is no hurry.
We shall get there someday.
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti.
Peace.
Peace.
Peace.
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti.
Om Shanti Shanti.

This was a lovely space of tranquility. While meditating, my cat used my hand as a pillow. Will be returning to this as needed. Thank you so much Update: I return to this regularly. Not only is it a beautiful reflection on patience, it brings immense calm to my nervous system. The music is a remarkable mix of hand pans, violin, & vocals. Thank you so much.
