Hello and welcome to this mindful eating meditation.

Feel free to listen to this meditation when you sit down to eat.

It is intended to inspire mindful eating,

To be aware of the nourishment you are giving your body and eating until you are satisfied.

So as you sit down in front of your meal,

Really take a look at what you are eating right now.

What is it?

Notice all of the ingredients and notice how they may have arrived on your plate.

Imagine where they grew,

How they were tended to,

Who looked after it,

When was it harvested,

How is it processed and transported to arrive at the grocery store or maybe your own garden and then prepared by you or prepared by someone else.

And now here it is,

Your meal,

Your nourishment,

Your fuel that you are about to consume.

Give thanks for this food.

Thank you.

Grab your fork and take your first bite.

Notice the texture,

The taste.

Allow yourself to chew 12 to 15 times.

Noticing each moment.

When you're ready,

Grab your fork or spoon and take another bite.

Noticing how each bite is different.

On your own time,

Chew 12 to 15 times.

Each time noticing the texture,

The taste.

Maybe you notice the color.

As you chew,

Take in some nice deep breaths through your nostrils.

When it's right for you,

Maybe put your fork down.

Take a moment,

Have a sip of water or a drink you might have and just continue taking bites.

Enjoying the nourishment.

Feeling ultra aware of the texture,

The taste,

The gratitude for this food.

You're aware of your surroundings,

Where you've chosen to eat this meal.

So thankful for this fuel that's going to align with your body to give you energy and carry you throughout the day.

Continuing to chew 12 to 15 times,

Noticing,

Appreciating,

And being in the present moment of each bite.

Feel free to continue this mindfulness throughout the day and be reminded of it the next time you sit down to eat.

Being mindful of every meal and making powerful nutritious choices that are going to keep your body so strong,

So vibrant,

So healthy.

As this food breaks down in your stomach and is absorbed by the cells in your body to rejuvenate,

Renew,

Restore.

We'll let this meditation play out now.

You may not be done your meal,

But continue on with the awareness and the gratitude.

I appreciate you.

I see you.

I am proud of you.

You are amazing.

Enjoy.

This practice was really effective in promoting a full sense of presence while eating. I loved that the beginning included an awareness and appreciation for the origin of our food and its journey to our plates. It can be easy to forget this, especially for those of us who have the privilege of food security and easy access to abundantly stocked grocery stores. I recognize that this is not the case for everyone. So this meditation inspired me to further appreciate my own blessings with food and consider how I honor the food that I consume. It also was helpful for the mind/body connection: I found myself really slowing down to experience the flavors and texture of my meal while counting the 12-15 chews. Overall this brief track provided excellent guidance to be intentional and fully experience the glory of a meal.
