The Five Twigs Meditation.
In this short but powerful meditation practice,
You'll be holding each individual finger to gently release and transform your emotions.
Each finger represents specific feelings and when held can allow the body to gently let go,
Creating space for renewal and for healing.
So begin to get yourself all nice and comfortable,
Either sitting or lying down.
And as you breathe in,
Gently relax and close your eyes.
Bring your attention to your breath,
Breathing slowly and deeply.
And if you want to sigh the breath out for a few breaths,
Then do so until your breathing feels more settled,
More softer.
Just breathe slow,
Natural breaths.
Relaxing and allowing your body to gently let go.
Now begin to rub your hands together to create connection,
Warmth and energy.
And starting with your left hand,
Gently rub your fingers around your left thumb.
And as you hold your left thumb,
Breathe in and imagine gathering any worries and fears about your life,
Maybe relationships or the future.
Let them rise naturally,
Just to the surface.
And with your gentle exhale,
Just let those fears be released.
Breathe out your worries,
Release your fears.
Now gently hold your left index finger.
And here I want you to acknowledge any expectations you may be placing on yourself or even others.
And as you exhale,
Let these expectations go.
Just feel the freedom in that release.
Now gently hold your left middle finger.
And recognize any anger or frustration you may be holding on to.
And with your exhale,
Let that anger and frustration just dissipate.
And leaving behind a sense of inner calmness,
Just breathe.
Now gently wrap your fingers around your left ring finger.
And again as you breathe in,
Acknowledge any grief or sadness within you.
And with each exhale,
Let this grief just flow out,
Easing the heaviness in your heart.
And as you hold this finger,
Just ask yourself,
Are you pretending or hiding your true self,
Your true nature?
Breathe out.
Imagine letting those pretenses just fall away.
Allowing your authentic self to gently emerge and shine through,
Up by the side of the body.
And just having an awareness of the feelings,
The emotions that have been released through each little stretch,
Maybe a yawn.
