In this engaging non duality practice, John guides us to imagine our mind as a flow of experiences, much like a mighty river. We begin to understand how meditation focuses on allowing experience to be exactly as it is.

Imagine for a moment your mind,

The flow of thoughts and feelings,

The flow of experience.

Imagine it as a mighty river,

Moving powerfully,

Moving freely,

Moving uninterruptedly,

Spontaneously.

And feeling into the flow of this river of thinking,

Rushing by.

So dynamic,

So free.

Just completely allowing the river to rush,

To move with all its power and unpredictability,

Making no effort to stop the river,

No effort to try and direct its course in any way.

Not knowing which way the river will turn or shape itself,

Not knowing exactly how it will flow,

How it will feel,

How it will be experienced,

But completely allowing the river of thinking and feeling to move as it will,

To flow as it will,

To be exactly as it is.

No need to dam up the river to keep it in check,

To keep it from spilling over its banks.

Sometimes it may be a gentle trickle,

Sometimes a mighty raging out of control force,

But no matter,

The river just flows and we enjoy making no movement to alter its course.

And also recognizing that there is no separation between what we call us and this river that's flowing.

The observer of this mighty river and the river itself,

Indistinguishable,

Inseparable,

Zero degrees,

Separating what is seen and what is felt from the seeing and the feeling itself.

Another wonderful metaphor for the movement of experience,

The movement of experience,

The movement of thinking and feeling and sensing is fire.

Fire is so dynamic,

So unpredictable,

So powerful,

So bright,

So uncontrollable and uncontainable.

Just feeling your own mind,

Your own thinking,

Feeling,

Sensing,

Experiencing as a fire burning,

However it may be burning and making no effort to rein it in,

No effort to put the fire out and no effort to stop its burning,

But just letting it burn,

Even if the burning feels wild and out of control.

Just allowing that dynamism to be as it is.

Thank you for allowing me to find peace in the raging river & burning blaze. It helped me get still, be at one with my God, & find my breath again. Serenity. 🕉️

I liked both flow metaphors of river and fire. Reminded me of Marsha Linehan’s “radical acceptance” — we can’t control the next drop of water or spark of flame so don’t even try! 🙏❤️

Just as the Beetles said... “Let it be...” Thank you for this reminder that’s it’s okay to be who and what we are in the moment and to allow that of our children too.

I really enjoyed this! It ends so abruptly, though, like it was cut off from a longer meditation.... just when I was really getting into it ☹️ 🙏🏻
