Sometimes everything around us can feel dark and heavy,
Perhaps scary and overwhelming,
And we feel really alone.
If you're feeling like that just now then this meditation is for you.
Before we start I invite you to get into a comfortable position,
Sitting in a chair,
Sitting on the floor,
Lying on the sofa,
Whatever feels good for you.
And once you're as comfortable as you possibly can be,
With good contact with the ground,
I invite you to close your eyes.
And we're just going to take a few breaths.
You don't need to change your breath,
Just notice it.
I like to think of the breath as this old familiar friend that we so easily forget about.
It's always there waiting for us to notice.
So use this breath and settle into that regular familiarity in and out.
Notice the journey of the breath moving into your body,
Filling it up and then emptying out again.
And allow this breath to help you be more present and more aware.
And now I'm going to ask you to imagine that it's night time.
And you're at the edge of what feels like the world.
And it's rocky and it's stormy.
You're right next to the sea or the ocean.
And everything feels like it's raging and chaotic and wild.
And it's like you're observing it a bit from the outside.
You can use your breath to help you feel a bit protected in this regard.
You're observing but you're not falling into the chaos.
And I invite you to imagine that your body transforms itself into a lighthouse.
And you realize that that ability to kind of step back and observe this dark,
Dangerous,
Crazy,
Stormy chaos that's out there is because you're protected,
You're strong and you're stable inside this lighthouse.
Lighthouses do live on the edge of the world.
They are built to withstand any ridiculous,
Huge,
Raging storm.
Lighthouses have a strong base,
A resilient body.
They are old,
They are wise.
And they are strong.
So imagine yourself as this lighthouse,
Protected,
Tall,
Grand,
Indestructible.
And despite this darkness and this stormy world around you,
I invite you to focus inside and imagine even if it's only the tiniest light that you can conjure.
Imagine how the safety and that majestic strength of your lighthouse can help you expand that light as you breathe.
So maybe you can imagine the light starting,
Like a little flicker deep inside of you.
So maybe you can imagine the light starting,
Like a little flicker deep inside of you.
And this time as you breathe,
You can imagine expanding that light using your breath as a vehicle.
So you can feel that light growing up inside of you.
It comes up through your belly,
Through your chest,
Up your back,
Down your shoulders and your arms.
It even comes up through your face,
Passing through your neck.
And it forms two spots of light.
Two spots of light.
Like imagine you're wearing a head torch.
So that's where one of your lighthouse lights are.
And then the second one is in the centre of your throat.
And to your surprise,
Your lighthouse starts to emit light.
It starts to flash its own unique code from your throat.
And from your head torch forehead.
And you're quite surprised by how powerful this light is.
When you just let it do its thing,
You don't need to do anything.
You can just observe,
Even enjoy the flashing light.
Constant,
Powerful.
Reaching out into that dark,
Stormy chaos.
And as you connect in with these two points of light,
Something amazing happens and you realise that you can detect,
You can see other lights out there.
And you realise there's other lighthouses out there.
You're not alone,
You're not solitary.
There's other lighthouses out there,
Withstanding this storm.
And they're reaching out to communicate with you.
And they're showing you that there's other safe spaces out there.
Because when lighthouses are communicating their light,
Their unique code,
They're communicating to the outside world that this space is safe.
So you realise that that's what the other lighthouses are doing for you,
As you are for them.
And your codes are different and they complement each other.
And as you observe these playful lights in the distance,
Your light becomes stronger and brighter.
When something even more incredible happens,
You can feel these lighthouses almost appearing closer.
Their light's reaching you even more.
And you realise that these lighthouses represent other safe places.
Places or people in your life.
Maybe people you know,
Or places you know.
Or things you can do that help you feel calmer in these moments of stormy,
Dark chaos.
And perhaps it's clear to you who some of these people or places or things are.
Or perhaps it's not right now and that's okay.
Maybe it'll come to you later.
You feel really comforted by the existence of these other lighthouses.
And you realise that as you communicate with them,
Through the light in your throat and through the light in your forehead,
You notice that everything around you is calming.
You don't know how much time has passed.
All you know is that time has passed.
And literally the storm is calming.
And not just that,
But night is passing to day.
The wind drops,
The ocean calms.
And you observe with awe as a new day breaks.
You can imagine the sun rising over the horizon.
Or the ocean.
And you allow this light of the new day to charge you up.
This body that you have,
Which is like a safe,
Strong lighthouse.
Getting charged up by the sun and by the light of the day.
It's like having light and energy and hope on reserve for the next time that stormy,
Darkness,
Disaster,
Despair comes calling.
Because we know that life is full of roller coasters and there will be other challenges in the future.
But right now,
Let's bask in this light.
I'm going to invite you to take your hands to the centre of your chest.
And take all that light,
The light from your forehead,
The light from your throat.
The light from the sun charging you up.
Store it in your heart like it was a big,
Big,
Big,
Big,
Big,
Big,
Big,
Big,
Big,
Big,
Like it was a big,
Abundant battery.
So you can imagine it filtering in through your hands.
It's like the charge point.
And filling you up from the heart outwards.
And come back to your breath as you notice your heart filling up with light.
And then when you feel ready,
In your own time,
You can take your hands back down to your lap.
And start slowly waking up your body.
And then when you feel ready,
You can open your eyes and come back.
