Today's practice is a beholding walk.
So often we go through the world without an awareness of the miracles and the moments of beauty that surround us.
So begin today's walk with a quiet heart.
Let each breath in and out.
Let it draw in peace and clarity.
Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel used the phrase radical amazement.
When we were newborns in this world,
We had a sense of this radical amazement with everything that we saw for the first time.
But this amazement dissipates as we grow.
This moment,
Try and recapture this radical amazement.
As you walk,
Look around at the seemingly ordinary.
The way light falls through the leaves,
The pattern of shadows on the ground,
The texture of the grass.
Each is a manifestation of divine artistry.
As you walk,
Focus on these sensations.
What do you feel?
Hear the sounds around you,
The ground under your feet.
Let these sensations fill you with awe of your aliveness.
Today the challenge is to continue with this practice of radical amazement.
Maybe challenge yourself to find something new and beautiful in a familiar route.
Perhaps it's the color of a flower you've never noticed or the sound of wind you've often ignored.
Make this day a day of beholding the reality of God's presence in all things.
So as we close and as you continue to walk,
Remind yourself of this truth.
Every step is on holy ground.
