"Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life..." - Dallas Willard. This is a short meditation to remind ourselves to walk about the day with a sense of patience. Instead of urgency and a need to "go go go," we can focus on what is right in front of us. The unhurried, calm, presence of God in each simple moment. This meditation is part 4 of a 15-day series of short meditations helping one become more "Re-Enchanted" with their existence.

As you begin this meditation,

Take a long,

Deep breath,

And with each exhale,

Release the urgency that clutters your life.

Consider the words from Dallas Willard,

Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life.

It's the great enemy of spiritual life.

Reflect on the aspects of your life where hurry has diminished your joy or spiritual connection.

Right now,

Focus on the sensation of slowing down.

Focus feeling each movement,

Each breath,

As fully as possible.

It's only in this state where we can truly understand that God is near us and with us.

Imagine what it would be like to walk through the world without a sense of urgency,

Without a need to go,

Go,

Go,

Do,

But instead to have a sense of presence,

Focusing on what's right in front of you with God.

So as you go throughout your day,

Let this awareness spread.

Pledge to take some deliberate pauses.

Maybe it's five minutes to just sit quietly,

Or maybe you could slow your pace as you walk,

Or maybe it's when you eat,

You could deliberately chew slower and let each act be a sacred act.

So encourage yourself with this reminder today.

In slowing down,

I find my soul's pace.

I am grateful for the calm and soothing voice reminding me that Jesus invites me to an unrushed life. Embracing an unrushed pace is countercultural and is a direct assault on the forces of darkness that screams “hurry up and do more”. Thank you for the reminder 🙏🏼
