Chapter 11 Dahlia looked at the clock again,
For what felt like the hundredth time in the last ten minutes.
It was five minutes before four o'clock.
The restaurant was mostly empty and all of her tasks to prepare for the evening rush were completed.
She washed her hands and could hear one of her friends who worked with her calling her name from the front room.
Quickly drying her hands off,
She peeked around the corner and smiled to see Enro standing at the entrance talking to Camry while looking in Dahlia's direction.
As their eyes met,
She could feel that rush of energy,
That buzz of electricity moving through her body that she felt the first time she saw him earlier.
Smiling at Dahlia from across the room while he was still talking to Camry,
Dahlia could feel Camry's eyes also switch over to her.
Suddenly,
All three of them were grinning,
And Enro's voice slowly stopped speaking.
Dahlia found herself beginning to laugh.
What was this?
This crazy,
Giddy,
Beautiful feeling that was flowing through her whole body.
Shaking her head,
She turned away for a moment to fold her apron and put it up on the kitchen shelf,
Trading it for her backpack.
With a quick wave and goodbye to Tio and her other co-workers,
She walked into the front room and towards Enro and Camry.
With her lopsided grin gently teasing Dahlia,
Camry reached out to give her a hug.
It's a pleasure to meet you,
She said to Enro.
Take good care of this beauty tonight,
Please.
As Enro nodded and smiled,
He and Dahlia turned to walk out of the restaurant.
Hi,
She said with a happy grin,
Not understanding what was happening,
But loving the peaceful yet excited sensations moving through her body.
Hello,
Enro replied.
How was the rest of your shift?
It was great,
And I'm glad it's over and you are here.
Me too,
He replied.
What would you like to do?
I was thinking maybe we could go over to the beach and walk and talk for a while,
He offered.
That sounds perfect,
Dahlia replied.
I will leave my bike here to go home later.
Or I can give you a ride then if you'd like.
I asked the guys if I could use our rental car tonight,
So I'm totally open,
Enro said.
That would be great,
Dahlia said,
Feeling her heart smile,
Knowing he had cleared his whole night to spend with her.
Would you mind if we put my backpack in there for now so I don't have to carry it while we're walking?
Of course,
He said,
And showed her over to a black Jeep in the parking lot.
After putting her backpack on the back floor,
They grabbed their water bottles,
Locked the car,
And started walking over to the public entrance for the beach.
They took off their sandals,
Leaving them near the entrance,
And started walking down the beach towards the water.
How long have you been in Bali?
Enro asked.
I arrived here a year and a half ago,
Dahlia said.
It's been a long journey to find my way to this place I love,
And now that I'm here,
I can't imagine living anywhere else,
Although I know that will probably change.
I'd love to hear the full version of that journey if you want to share,
Enro said,
Anything and everything,
With a silly grin to emphasize how much he actually meant those words.
And without thinking,
Dahlia put her hand in his,
Smiled,
And said,
I have so much to tell you.
They started walking along the beach,
Feeling the sand wet and a little squishy between their toes.
The late afternoon breeze and warm sunshine at their back,
Dahlia began talking,
Sharing the highlights of her human journey to date.
Born in Romania to a young woman after a drunk night of passion with a very good-looking American tourist who she met in a local bar.
Nine months later,
Unwed,
With no way to trace the man who she only knew by first name and had no contact information for,
Dahlia's mother brought her into the world with her own mother by her side.
Growing up,
Dahlia's mother had always wanted to be a mother so that she could become who she most admired,
Her own mother.
Her childhood had been filled with love,
Play,
And adventure as her parents shared a deep love and respect for each other,
With their children at the center of their family life.
Once she made peace with the understanding that she would be parenting alone,
Dahlia's mother had dropped fully into the beauty of her pregnancy and changes in her body.
She talked to the baby in her womb throughout the day,
Telling the little one how much she was wanted and how excited she was for her baby to arrive.
Working as a waitress right up until her 39th week,
When her water broke as she was walking home one evening,
Dahlia's mother was young,
Strong,
And ready for her parenting adventure to begin.
From her earliest memories,
Dahlia felt loved,
Safe,
Protected by her mother.
Growing up in the home with her mother and her grandparents,
She did not realize she was missing anything by not having a father there.
Her grandfather seamlessly filled any void.
When she was five and started school,
However,
Her world shifted on its axis.
Her mother met,
Fell in love with,
And very quickly married a man who worked at her office.
New to town,
He had just moved from Bucharest,
The capital of Romania.
Single,
An only child,
Used to be in the center of his family's attention.
He expected that same focus from his new wife and stepdaughter.
Empathic and open from a young age,
Dahlia could feel her mother's inner conflict as she tried to meet everyone's needs and settle her new family comfortably into their new apartment and shared experience.
Within a year,
Dahlia's younger sister,
Natalia,
Arrived.
From the moment she came home with her mother,
Dahlia was in love with this little baby.
Filled with light and joy,
Waving arms and wiggly toes,
Natalia would squeal with delight every time Dahlia came into the room.
Playing peek-a-boo became their favorite way to spend time when Dahlia was home after school.
She could listen to Natalia's giggles for hours.
Natalia's arrival shifted the dynamic of the family,
And life became more harmonious and playful as the four settled into their family journey together.
Thriving in school,
Dahlia was a quick learner.
Socially adept at navigating small-town school politics,
She grew into her leadership within the school community and out on the soccer field with her team.
By the time she graduated from high school,
Dahlia's core strengths were well integrated.
Confident,
Intelligent,
Resilient,
Emotionally aware,
Intuitive,
And motivated.
While their family status was not wealthy,
They lived a comfortable life by the town's standards with a two-bedroom apartment,
One shared car,
And steady employment by her mother and stepfather.
After graduation,
Dahlia started working at the same restaurant her mother used to work at before she moved to her office job.
Following the expected life path she had seen laid out in her family lineage as far back as she could remember,
Dahlia tried to ignore the unsettled feeling of hunger to break out of the mold she saw modeled all around her.
Social media brought the world right into her hands through her phone.
The more time she spent searching,
Finding accounts by women her age in countries all around the world,
The more dissatisfaction she was experiencing with her own current reality.
It felt as if she lived on an island in the middle of the sea,
Unreachable miles away from the examples being shown to her.
As each year ended and a new one opened up in front of her,
Dahlia could feel the intensity building.
A few of her friends had begun moving away,
One to Bucharest,
Another to Croatia,
Another to Hungary,
And their lives were transforming as Dahlia watched.
The struggle between feeling the safety and security of her comfortable town in Romania and the thrill of the excitement and adventure being shared by her friends created a tug of war that was constantly playing in her mind.
The main tether holding her so firmly in her hometown continued to be Natalia.
Best of friends,
Despite the six-year age difference,
They were kindred spirits.
They finished each other's sentences and laughed before the jokes were even shared with anyone around them.
Their own best cheerleaders and wisest counsel.
They woke up together in their shared bedroom and whispered their dreams to each other before they went to sleep at night.
While it made no sense to anyone except them,
Dahlia and Natalia knew that they had picked each other as sisters for their journey in this lifetime,
And it was a gift to grow up together,
One that they were unwilling to change.
Until her 25th birthday,
When Dahlia knew it was time.
The world was about to change,
And she and Natalia had been discussing for two years now what their roles would be when that time arrived.
Knowing she was meant to lead a movement,
And there were skills she needed to learn to prepare for that moment when her destiny would arrive,
Dahlia had been researching teachers and mentors who could show her how to fully embody energy,
Frequency,
And use it to connect to the consciousness of the planet.
She had found the one she was ready to trust to teach her Kundalini Yoga,
And that teacher was leading a teacher training in Bali.
Five years of working and saving as much as possible had prepared her to be fully resourced once she made her decision to move.
It was the fear of separation from Natalia that had held her in place until that moment.
Feeling Enro's hands squeeze hers as she said those words out loud to him while they were walking,
Dahlia could feel her eyes fill up with tears.
He understands,
She thought.
He actually understands.
Turning her head slightly to look up at him through the corner of her eyes,
She saw him watching her also.
As they stopped walking and turned to face each other,
Enro took her hand in his.
She could feel the strength and steady energy moving through his hands into hers.
Looking up at him,
They locked eyes,
And Dahlia slowly exhaled.
I had to prepare myself so that I would be ready when you found me,
She carefully said out loud.
Watching as Enro nodded slowly with a small smile on her lips,
She could feel the whole world pause.
Hearing the ocean waves,
Feeling the breeze move around her,
The warmth of the sun on her left side,
Dahlia straightened her back and opened her shoulders,
Lifting her chin up slightly,
Matching his smile.
Thank you for finding me,
She whispered.
As Enro leaned forward,
Their lips touched,
And a commitment was made.
