Welcome to this guided sleep meditation.
This practice has been created to help you release the stress of the day.
Gently relax your body and drift into sleep.
Perhaps you are settling into bed after a long day.
Or maybe you have awakened during the night and are hoping to return to sleep.
Whatever has brought you here tonight,
Please know that you are not alone.
You can allow yourself to be supported as you settle into rest.
There is nothing you need to accomplish here.
You don't need to wonder whether you are doing this correctly.
Or try to force yourself to fall asleep.
There is no way you can do this practice wrong.
Simply allow yourself to settle into relaxation.
Trusting that sleep can find you in its own gentle time.
As the meditation continues,
My voice will gradually become quieter.
Eventually fading away and leaving the music to wrap around you like a soft blanket.
Cradling you in comfort as sleep gently finds you.
If you begin to drift off before the meditation is finished.
You can let go of my words completely.
There is no need to stay awake or follow along until the end.
And if you remain awake.
That is okay too.
You can still enjoy this time of comfort and quiet.
Without asking anything more of yourself.
For now,
There is nowhere else you need to be.
Nothing more you need to do.
Just this gentle invitation to rest.
Begin by allowing yourself to settle into a comfortable position.
Perhaps making any small adjustments that would help you feel a little more at ease.
Laying your blanket closer adjusting your pillow.
Allowing your body to settle into the softness beneath you.
Feel the support of the bed.
The places where your body meets the mattress.
The gentle weight of the blankets resting around you.
There is no perfect position you need to maintain.
You can always move or adjust if your body asks you to.
For now,
Allow yourself to be as comfortable as you can.
And as you begin to settle.
Imagine yourself resting peacefully in a beautiful place overlooking a quiet lake.
Perhaps you are nestled into a cozy room with a beautiful view of the water.
Or resting somewhere comfortable and sheltered near the shore.
There is no need to picture any particular place.
Simply allow yourself to imagine a space that feels peaceful,
Welcoming,
And completely comfortable to you.
Somewhere you can rest without interruption.
Somewhere the lake stretches quietly out before you.
The sun is beginning to set.
Warm golden light moves across the water.
Soft shades of peach,
Pink.
And lavender spread gently through the evening sky.
The lake reflects these beautiful colors.
Shimmering softly as the last light of the day moves across the surface.
Perhaps you notice the distant shoreline.
The soft shapes of trees.
The gentle movement of the water.
Everything around you seems to be slowing.
The light is becoming softer.
The sounds of the day are growing quieter.
And the world seems to be settling into evening.
There is something comforting about this time of day.
The sun is beginning to disappear beyond the horizon.
And nothing in the natural world needs to hold on to it.
The day is coming to an end.
And for these next few moments,
Perhaps you can allow yourself to settle with it.
Take a slow,
Comfortable breath in.
And a long,
Easy breath out.
Perhaps releasing with a gentle sigh.
Again,
Breathing in.
And as you breathe out,
Imagine some of the stress of the day beginning to melt away.
Not all at once.
Nothing you need to force.
Simply allowing your body to recognize that it no longer needs to keep moving at the pace of the day.
Perhaps you've spent much of today moving from one thing to the next.
Thinking.
Responding.
To siding.
Giving your attention to the people and things that needed you.
Even when the day begins to quiet.
Body sometimes continues holding on.
The shoulders remain lifted.
The jaw stays tight.
The mind continues moving.
As though some part of you hasn't quite realized that you are allowed to stop.
Here.
In this peaceful place.
You can begin to soften.
There is nothing you need to solve before you rest.
Nothing you need to finish before your body is allowed to relax.
But for now,
The day can simply be done.
Feel the softness beneath you.
Pillow supporting your head.
The blankets resting gently around you.
Allowing yourself to become a little heavier.
A little more subtle.
As though the warmth of the evening is gently melting away the tension you've been carrying.
And now,
Allow that feeling of softness to begin moving through your body.
There is no need to search for tension or make any part of yourself relax.
Simply inviting each area to soften in its own time.
Begin with the forehead.
Perhaps noticing any tightness that remains from the day.
Allow the forehead to smooth.
The space between the eyebrows softening.
The tiny muscles around the eyes releasing your eyelids becoming pleasantly heavy.
Resting easily.
Let the cheeks relax the muscles around the mouth soften.
Jaw,
Unclench.
Allowing a little space between the teeth.
The tongue resting comfortably in the mouth.
Nothing more you need to say tonight.
Nothing you need to explain.
Nothing you need to respond to.
Allow the entire face to become soft.
Quiet.
At Hughes.
Outside,
The colors of the sunset deepen.
The golden light slowly gives way to softer shades of rose and lavender.
Perhaps your body can begin to soften in much the same way.
Gently.
Naturally.
Without effort.
Bring awareness now to the neck and shoulders.
Perhaps noticing where the day's stress has settled.
The places that have been holding.
Bracing.
Or working a little harder than you realize.
And as you breathe out,
Imagine that tension beginning to melt.
Muscles along the neck softening.
The back of the neck relaxing.
The shoulders dropping a little farther from the ears.
Allowing the upper back to release as though the warmth of the evening is gently loosening everything you've been holding.
Perhaps you can imagine the muscles becoming warm and soft.
Any tightness slowly dissolving.
Melting downward.
Until there is a little less for your body to carry.
No need to push the shoulders down.
No need to force them to release.
Simply giving them permission to rest.
Allow that softness to move into the arms.
The upper arms becoming heavy.
The elbows relaxing.
For.
.
.
Rest.
Palms of the hands.
Perhaps noticing whether the fingers are still curled.
Or whether the hands are holding any trace of effort.
Allow the fingers to soften.
Palms to rest comfortably.
Nothing left to hold.
Nothing more you need to do with your hands tonight.
Feel the warmth of the blankets around you.
The softness of the surface beneath you.
Allowing the entire upper body to become a little heavier.
Now bring awareness to the chest.
The muscles around the ribs.
The space around the heart.
Perhaps allowing a little more room for the breath to move.
No need to take a particularly deep breath.
No need to change its rhythm.
Simply allowing the chest to soften.
The breath moving easily in.
And gently out.
Allow the belly to relax.
The muscles of the abdomen releasing.
The space around the waist softening.
Nothing to hold in.
Nothing to brace against.
Perhaps with your next exhale,
You can allow the belly to become just a little softer.
And with the next,
A little more at ease.
Outside,
The lake continues its gentle movement.
Small ripples spread across the water.
And gradually become quieter as the evening settles.
There is nothing you need to do to make the water still.
Nothing you need to do to make your body relax perfectly.
Simply allowing.
Softening.
Resting.
Feel the entire back now.
The space between the shoulder blades.
A middle bear.
Lower back.
Allowing the muscles along the spine to soften into the support beneath you.
Perhaps noticing how much of the day you've spent holding yourself upright.
Moving.
Responding.
Continuing from one thing to the next.
But now the surface beneath you is doing the holding.
You can allow the muscles of the back to rest.
Imagine any remaining tightness along the back,
Slowly melting.
The muscles becoming warm.
Soft.
Heavy.
Your body settling more fully into its resting place.
You don't need to hold yourself up anymore.
You already supported.
Allow the hips to become heavy.
The pelvis settling.
The muscles around the hips softening.
Perhaps releasing tension you didn't even realize was there.
Allow the glutes to relax.
The muscles around the pelvis to soften.
The entire lower body becoming a little heavier.
And now the thighs.
The muscles along the front of the legs.
The backs of the legs.
Allowing them to become soft and still.
The knees relaxing.
The calves releasing.
The ankles becoming loose and comfortable.
Feel the heels resting.
The soles of the feet.
The arches.
The top of the feet.
All the way to the tips of the toes.
Perhaps allowing the toes to release their grip.
The feet to become soft and heavy.
Nothing left to carry you through tonight.
Your legs can rest.
Your feet can rest.
Your whole body can rest.
And now,
Feel the entire body together.
From the top of the head.
All the way down to the tips of the toes.
Soft.
Heavy.
Support it.
Perhaps imagining the last traces of the day's tension slowly melting away.
Like the final warmth of the sun settling into the horizon.
There may still be places that feel tense.
Thoughts that haven't quite settled.
Or parts of you that are taking a little longer to unwind.
That's okay.
You don't have to make every part of yourself relax before you are allowed to rest.
Simply allow yourself to be here.
Comfortable.
Supportive.
Watching the day gently become evening.
And perhaps allowing yourself to do the same.
And as you continue resting here.
Perhaps you notice that the sky has grown a little darker.
The last golden light of the sun has slipped beyond the horizon Soft shades of lavender and rose gradually deepened into blue.
The lake stretches quietly before you.
Reflecting the changing colors of the evening sky.
Everything feels a little softer now.
A little quieter.
As though the whole world is beginning to settle into rest.
Perhaps you notice the first star appearing overhead.
A tiny point of light in the deepening sky.
And then another.
And another.
Until the evening sky is scattered with gentle distant stars.
Their reflections shimmer softly across the lake.
Little points of light resting on the surface of the water.
Above you,
The wide peaceful sky.
Before you,
A quiet lake.
And all around you,
The gentle stillness of the evening.
Perhaps you notice how the colors of the sky seem to melt into the earth.
The distant shoreline becomes softer.
The tree settling into shadow.
The horizon gradually losing its edges as the evening deepens.
Sky.
Water.
And earth.
All resting together beneath the quiet of the night.
Nothing needs to hold on to the day.
Nothing needs to hurry toward tomorrow.
The evening is simply becoming night.
And you are simply resting here.
Feel the comfort surrounding you.
The softness beneath your body.
The warmth of your covers.
The quiet rhythm of your breath.
Perhaps the last traces of the day's stress are continuing to melt away.
Without needing your attention.
Without needing you to do anything at all.
Like the fading colors of the sunset.
Soften in.
Dissolving.
Becoming part of the stillness around you.
You have made it through this day.
Whatever it held.
Whatever it asked of you.
Whatever remains unfinished.
For now.
You can allow it to be complete enough.
There is nothing more you need to give to this day.
Nothing you need to revisit.
Nothing you need to prepare for.
Nothing you need to carry into this moment.
Adjust the quietly.
The gentle stars.
And the comfort of being exactly where you are.
Perhaps you notice the soft movement of the water.
A gentle ripple passing across the lake.
Catching a little starlight.
And slowly fading into the darkness Another ripple.
And another.
Each one moving in its own time.
Nothing to follow.
Nothing to count.
Nothing to understand.
Simply allowing the quiet rhythm of the water to become part of your rest.
And perhaps your thoughts can be much the same.
Coming and going.
Without needing you to follow them.
If something from the day drifts into awareness,
It can simply drift through.
You don't need to return to the conversation.
Finish the thought.
Or decide what it means.
The day is behind you now.
And tomorrow has not yet arrived.
There is only this quiet moment.
This comfortable place.
This gentle invitation to sleep.
The skies become a deep,
Peaceful blue.
The stars continue to shine softly overhead.
Their reflections resting quietly on the lake.
Perhaps the distant shoreline is barely visible now.
The trees.
The water.
The earth.
All becoming part of the gentle darkness.
And you.
Resting comfortably.
One.
Support it.
At ease.
Nothing else matters in this moment.
Nothing is asking for your attention.
Nothing needs to be accomplished before you can sleep.
You don't need to watch for sleep.
Or wonder whether it's beginning.
You can simply allow yourself to rest.
And if sleep begins to find you.
There is nothing more you need to do.
The lake is quiet.
The night is gentle.
Your body is resting.
And the day is done.
Perhaps you can feel how little is being asked of you now.
No more places to go.
No more things to finish.
No need to hold on to the day.
You are resting in this quiet place.
With the stars above.
And their soft reflections on the water.
The air is still.
The lake is peaceful.
And your body can continue settling into the comfort beneath you.
You don't need to keep listening closely.
You don't need to remember any of these words.
You can simply become part of the quiet around you.
Perhaps your breath has found its own gentle rhythm.
Moving in.
And moving out.
As naturally as the small ripples moving across the lake.
Nothing to go.
Nothing to change.
Just breathing.
And resting.
The sky is dark now.
Soft and peaceful.
Stars remain.
The water rests beneath them.
And the whole world seems content to be quiet.
You can be quiet too.
If thoughts appear,
They can come and go.
If you are still awake.
You can continue resting.
There is no need to check how close you are to sleep.
No need to wait for a particular experience.
For now,
Being here is enough.
The day has ended.
You can allow it to stay behind you.
The stress it carried does not need to come any farther.
Your body is resting.
Your mind can soften.
And the night can gently unfold around you.
Nothing else matters in this moment.
Only this quiet place.
This comfortable body.
This gentle breath.
Resting.
.
.
Softening.
Drifting.
Slowly begin to step away now.
Leaving the music to gently support your continued rest.
You can let go of my words whenever you are ready.
There is nothing more you need to follow.
The stars above.
The quiet water.
The softness beneath you.
Everything resting together.
The day is done.
Your body can rest.
And sleep can find you in its own gentle dimes.
Off.
Heavy.
Comfortable.
At you.
Nothing to hold.
Nothing to do.
Nowhere else to be.
Allow the music to become part of the stillness.
As the lake rests beneath the stars.
And you rest here.
Exactly as you are.
The day is behind you.
The night is here.
And you can simply drift.
Rest well.
You you you you you
