If you're brand new to meditation and don't know where to begin,
Then this video is for you.
Namaste,
My name is Soumya.
I'm a meditation teacher and a counseling psychologist and I love working with beginners,
Helping them find their way into this beautiful journey.
I started my meditation journey when I was about eight years old.
So I've spent close to two decades traveling across India and learning from different schools.
For the past decade,
I've also taught thousands of students from across the world.
So I'm familiar with some of the most common questions that beginners have.
So hopefully,
I will be sharing some tips that can be very helpful for you in your journey as you're starting out.
Tip number one.
Start small and start simple.
It can be very tempting to go ahead and book a fancy retreat that you see or go for a workshop that your friend has gone to.
However,
If you're just beginning your journey of mind training,
Then starting small with something as simple as just 5-10 minutes of practicing at home can be very helpful.
It will help you build confidence,
You will learn some of the basic skills and then after that you can go ahead and book that retreat for yourself.
Tip number two.
Start learning under a trained teacher.
Yes,
There are timers.
Yes,
There are lots of meditation audios and videos out there.
But it's very important to learn with someone who knows how to teach beginners and whose voice and presence you find comforting.
So trying to learn on your own can be slightly more complicated than learning with a coach or a guide who's trained to do the same for you.
Tip number three.
If you can,
Take a few sessions on Breathwork or Pranayama.
The reason for this is that a lot of meditation practices use your breath as your anchor in order to train your mind.
So if you don't know how to work with your breath,
Or if currently you're breathing in an incorrect way,
Then that can come in the way of your meditation practice.
So even two to three sessions of breath work can be very helpful in your journey of meditation.
And I'm going to talk more about this in one of the future videos.
Lastly,
Remember that a little goes a long way.
Keep coming back to your practice.
Yes,
It might not be very easy initially,
But if you start off simple,
You learn with a trained teacher,
And you allow yourself enough time and consistency,
Then you're sure to fall in love with the practice.
If you want to learn with me,
I have one guided meditation right here on this platform.
It's just five minutes long and it's a combination of breath work and meditation.
So you can go ahead and try that.
It's called five minute practice for beginners and I hope you enjoy that.
If you found this video helpful,
Please come back,
Do some practices with me.
You can join me in one of my live sessions and hopefully you will have a lot of fun.
Thank you for being here today.
Namaste.
