You did something.
Or maybe you didn't do something.
Or maybe nothing specific happened at all.
And yet,
The feeling is there.
That familiar sinking weight.
The one that says.
Not just that I did something wrong.
But there's something deeper and harder than that.
Is the voice that says,
I am wrong.
I am too much.
I am not enough.
I am bad.
That is shame.
And it is one of the heaviest things a human being can carry.
This is your ETF Topping Session for Shame.
Not for guilt,
Which is about what you did or didn't do.
But for Shane.
Which is about who you are.
Because that voice is lying.
That voice that tells you,
I'm not enough.
I'm bad.
There's something wrong with me.
That voice is lying.
And today,
We're going to begin to loosen its grip.
Find a comfortable position.
It's best to be sitting down.
Let your body settle.
Close your eyes if that feels comfortable.
Know that this is a safe space.
Take a slow breath in through your nose.
And release it fully through your mouth.
And another,
Longer this time,
Breathing in.
And letting it go.
Just notice for a moment.
Where does shame live in your body right now?
Is there a heaviness in your chest?
Desire to make yourself smaller.
A feeling of wanting to hide.
Or disappear,
Or simply not be seen.
What is true for you right now?
Just notice without judgment,
Without needing to fix anything yet.
On a scale of 0 to 10,
Where 0 is completely free of shame and at peace,
Feeling comfortable and happy.
And 10 is the full weight of feeling fundamentally not okay.
Where are you right now?
Pick that number intuitively and hold on to it lightly.
I'll check back in at the end and we're going to work on bringing that number down.
So we're going to start tapping together by bringing your fingers to the karate chop point on the side of your hand.
Begin tapping and repeat after me.
Even though I'm carrying the shame right now.
Even though I'm carrying the shame right now.
I deeply and completely accept myself.
I deeply and completely accept myself.
Even though part of me believes that there is something fundamentally wrong with me.
Even though part of me believes that there is something fundamentally wrong with me.
I choose to be gentle with myself today.
I choose to be gentle with myself today.
Even though the shame has been with me for longer than I can remember.
Even though the shame has been with me for longer than I can remember.
I'm willing to begin releasing it now.
I'm willing to begin releasing it now.
Stop tapping on the side of your hand.
And bring your fingers to the inner edge of your eyebrows.
Began tapping softly and repeating after me.
This heavy feeling of shame.
This heavy feeling of shame.
Tapping on the side of the eye.
The voice that says I'm wrong.
The voice that says I'm wrong.
Happening under the eye.
The feeling that I'm too much.
Or not enough.
Were somehow fundamentally flawed.
The feeling that I'm too much.
Or not enough.
Or somehow fundamentally flawed.
Tapping under the nose.
The desire to hide.
To shrink.
To not be seen.
The desire to hide.
To shrink.
To not be seen.
Tapping on the chin.
The belief that if people really knew me,
They would turn away.
The belief that if people really knew me,
They would turn away.
Tapping on the collarbone.
All the shame I've been carrying in silence and alone.
All the shame I've been carrying in silence and alone.
Tapping under the arm.
The weight of believing that I'm bad at my core.
The weight of believing that I'm bad at my core.
Tapping on the top of the head.
This shame has been trying to protect me.
But it has been crushing me instead.
This shame has been trying to protect me.
But it has been crushing me instead.
Stop tapping.
Take a slow breath in.
And release it completely.
Letting go of shame.
Letting go of judgment.
Letting go of beliefs that do not serve you.
We're going to move into round two.
And this is around releasing the lie.
So starting by tapping on the inner eyebrow.
I am ready to begin releasing this now.
I am ready to begin releasing this now.
Tapping on the side of the eye.
Shame is not the truth about who I am.
Shame is not the truth about who I am.
Tapping under the eye.
What I did is not who I am.
What happened to me is not who I am.
What I did is not who I am.
What happened to me is not who I am.
Tapping under the nose,
I'm allowed to be imperfect and still be worthy of love.
I'm allowed to be imperfect.
And still be worthy of love.
Tapping on the chin.
Every human being carries shame.
I am not uniquely broken.
I am not uniquely bad.
Every human being carries shame.
I am not uniquely broken.
I am not uniquely bad.
Tapping on the collarbone.
I release the belief that I need to hide who I am to be worthy of belonging.
I release the belief that I need to hide who I am.
To be worthy of belonging.
Tapping under the arm.
I'm allowed to be seen even in my imperfection.
Especially in my imperfection.
I'm allowed to be seen even in my imperfection.
Especially in my imperfections.
Tapping on the top of the head.
I release the shame now.
Not because what happened doesn't matter.
But because I matter more than the shame.
I release the shame now.
Not because what happened doesn't matter.
But because I matter more than the shame.
Stop tapping.
Take a deep breath in.
And release it slowly and completely.
We'll now move into our final round of tapping.
Starting with the inner eyebrow.
I am not bad.
I am not broken.
I am not too much.
I am not bad.
I am not broken.
I am not too much.
Tapping on the side of the eye.
I'm a human being who has struggled and stumbled and is still here.
I am a human being who has struggled and stumbled and is still here.
Tapping under the eye.
I am worthy of my own love.
I am worthy of my own love.
I am worthy of the love of the universe.
I am worthy of the love of the universe.
Tapping under the nose.
I'm allowed to be seen.
I'm allowed to belong.
I'm allowed to take up space.
I'm allowed to be seen.
I'm allowed to belong.
I'm allowed to take up space.
Tapping on the chin.
Shame loses its power when it's met with compassion.
And I mean it with compassion and love now.
Shame loses its power when it's met with compassion.
And I'm meeting it with compassion and love now.
Tapping on the collarbone.
I am enough.
Not because I am perfect,
But because I am here.
And being here has always been enough.
I'm enough.
Not because I am perfect,
But because I am here.
And being here has always been enough.
Tapping under the arm,
I release the shame and the stories and the beliefs that do not serve me.
I release the shame and the stories and the beliefs that do not serve me.
Tapping on the top of the head.
I am not bad.
I am not broken.
I am whole.
I am human.
And I am enough.
I am not bad.
I am not broken.
I am whole.
I am human and I am enough.
Stop tapping.
Take one more slow breath in.
And let it go completely.
This exercise can stir up a lot of feelings.
If you need to.
Repeat the tapping.
Let it serve you.
If it's brought up a lot that requires professional help,
Seek that as well.
I invite you now to let your hands rest where they fall.
Let your face soften.
Let your jaw unclench.
Your shoulders drop.
Your whole body settle.
Know that you are in a safe space.
And that you can see yourself with loving eyes.
See yourself with kindness.
It's time to check back in with that number from 0 to 10.
Where are you now?
Notice the difference,
And if you've brought that number down even just a little bit.
That is your nervous system responding to a direct signal that you are safe,
That you are seen.
And that shame does not need to define you.
Shame thrives in silence and secrecy.
It loses its power the moment it is acknowledged,
Named,
Met with compassion.
Rather than with more judgment.
You did that today.
You looked at something that most people never look at directly.
And you met it.
Not with more criticism,
Not with more hiding.
But with the gentleness that it has always deserved.
That is not a small thing.
That is one of the bravest things a human being can do.
You are not bad.
You are not broken.
You are not too much.
And you do not need to carry shame.
You are human and you are enough.
Take one more breath,
Slowly,
Easily,
Completely.
I invite you to carry that truth with you into the rest of your day.
