This fundamental practice of breathing through each nostril is preparation for Alternate Nostril Breathing (ANB) or Uni-Nostril Breathing (UNB) techniques. The left nostril activates the parasympathetic (down-regulating) nervous system and the right nostril activate the sympathetic (up-regulating) nervous system.
