Before we begin,
I want to share something personal with you.
The phrase I'm fine has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
My late mother would say it often,
I'm fine,
And that way moms sometimes do.
On the outside it sounded steady and almost reassuring,
But I could always sense there was more behind it.
It wasn't that she was lying,
She was fine in the way you keep moving,
Keep showing up,
And keep loving,
Even when you're tired,
Hurting,
Or holding back more than you let on.
When I think of her now,
I realize I'm fine can mean a lot of things.
It can be a shield,
A habit,
A quiet way of saying I don't want to burden you with the weight I'm carrying.
And I think many of us do the same thing.
We mask our truth,
Even from ourselves,
Just to get through the day.
So today,
In this guided meditation,
For emotional honesty and self-compassion,
We're going beyond I'm fine.
We'll slow down,
Check in,
And gently explore what's underneath that answer,
Giving ourselves permission to feel without judgment.
You'll find a comfortable position,
Sitting or lying down,
Whatever feels right for you.
Let your hands rest naturally,
Close your eyes or soften your gaze,
And take a slow breath in through your nose,
And exhale gently out through your mouth.
Again,
Inhale deeply,
Feel your chest and belly rise,
And exhale,
Letting your shoulders soften.
With each breath,
Imagine you're loosening your grip on fine and creating space for truth to emerge.
Bring your awareness to the top of your head,
And then your forehead,
And now your jaw.
Notice if there's tension,
And soften it.
Moving down to your neck and shoulders,
The spine sitting here like a weight.
Breathe in to these muscles,
Letting them relax.
Shift your focus to your chest.
Does your heart feel light or heavy?
Somewhere in between?
There's no right or wrong here.
You're simply noticing.
Now to your stomach.
Sometimes emotions hide here.
Knots,
Fluttering,
Emptiness.
Breathe into this space.
Continue scanning through your hips,
And your legs,
Your knees,
And feet.
Ask yourself quietly,
If I wasn't saying I'm fine,
What would I say instead?
You don't have to answer out loud.
Simply let the truth rise,
Even if it's messy.
Here's the thing,
Darling.
You don't need to fix how you feel.
You don't need to make it prettier or lighter.
You're allowed to feel exactly what you feel without judgment.
Place your hand on your heart and notice the warmth.
Say silently or out loud,
It's okay to not be okay.
Picture yourself in a safe,
Cozy space.
Maybe your bed,
A quiet cabin,
Or a sunny porch.
Across from you appears another version of you.
The one who's been holding back,
Saying I'm fine,
When you're not.
They look at you and admit,
I'm not fine.
You don't rush to fix them.
You simply sit beside them.
You listen.
You offer your presence.
And in that moment,
You remember,
You don't have to carry this alone.
Repeat quietly to yourself,
Letting the words land in your body as I repeat them.
I honor what's real,
Even when it's messy.
Fine is optional.
Truth is freeing.
My worth is not measured by my mood.
And here's something new to hold on to.
A not so darling reminder.
Darling,
I'm fine.
I'm fine,
My darling.
When inside,
I'm not.
Let's make a way for a new saying.
Maybe I'm fine,
But not.
Can I really tell you how I feel?
Let's recommit to our breath by taking an inhale honestly,
And an exhale releasing.
Begin to deepen your breath.
Notice your body supported beneath you.
Notice the air on your skin and the sound of your breath.
If your eyes are closed,
Gently blink them open.
Carry this truth with you.
You don't have to be fine to be you.
You just have to be honest with yourself.
And that's enough.
So remember,
My darling,
You are not alone.
I'm right here.
