Welcome in.
My name is Myesha.
I'm a scent and somatic alchemist.
And I am here to share one of my favorite portable tools for moments of anxiety,
Panic,
And overwhelm,
Or when the mind just won't stop spinning.
And yes.
It's bubbles!
Okay,
So you might be thinking that bubbles are mainly for children,
Right?
But they can actually be a really powerful somatic support for the nervous system.
Let me explain.
But first I'll give a little bit of background.
Right.
So as a child.
I really loved bubbles as most children do.
And as an adult,
I kind of embraced that childlike wonder and shamelessly embraced my love of bubbles and their magic.
End.
Even when I was working in public health,
Right,
And community engagement,
And I would do community events.
People would walk by I would bring a bubble machine and I would offer people bubble showers as they walked by and I would just notice the shift in adults and children alike especially adults though of like just this moment of shifting instantly into the state of wonder and joy and lightness and carelessness,
Right?
Carefree joy.
And I was always very intrigued by the power of bubbles to shift energy in that way.
Years ago when I was experiencing intense feelings of anxiety and panic on an almost daily basis.
I was going into a grocery store already feeling a bit anxious.
Once I stood in the grocery store line,
These feelings of anxiety and panic actually started to intensify and compound.
I remembered that I had a small.
.
.
Bottle of bubbles in my bag.
So I pulled it out.
I took a slow,
Deep inhale in.
An even longer exhale out.
And I blew some bubbles in that line.
And I immediately felt the sense of ease and sort of softening of the tension that was building and starting to flood my system,
Right?
Not only that,
But the energy of the people around me,
This energy of impatience and restlessness.
Softened around me as well.
It was then that I realized that these are not just like sort of magical playthings,
But they can actually be a powerful tool to shift energy and to soften the tension associated with states of activation in the body.
As a somatic practitioner now,
I encourage many of my clients to carry a small bottle of bubbles in their purse Their backpack,
Their glove compartment,
Their desk drawer.
And to think of them as a small pocket-sized somatic regulation tool,
Right?
This is the whole package that I have,
Right,
And I offer to some of my clients.
And here's why.
When anxiety or panic arises,
It happens in the body first.
We often think of it as a mind thing,
But it happens in the body first.
And so our breath becomes more shallow and quick.
To blow bubbles,
We naturally take a fuller inhale.
And then lengthen our exhale as we slowly blow through the mind.
And so it's sort of this forced way of slowing down the breath,
Finding our breath,
And really focusing outside of the mind.
That longer exhale,
It sends signals to the nervous system.
And can help ease the intensity of anxious activation.
And so if you have any bubbles with you,
You might want to join me for this little activity or this little practice.
If you don't,
Just join me in taking a few breaths and noticing what you notice while you watch.
The bubbles bounce around the screen.
And just notice what you notice.
If you have bubbles,
Go ahead and take a deep breath in.
Blow them out.
Thanks for watching.
Noticing.
Being present with the breath and the body.
Your attention shifts outside of the body and away from repetitive thoughts.
Instead of feeding rumination,
Your eyes begin tracking movement,
Color.
Light and space.
Notice the spectrum of colors within each bubble that's floating around the body.
Notice the way.
Drift and eventually disappear.
For a moment,
Just allow yourself to be immersed.
And relationships.
With wonder.
One more just for good measure.
Notice what happens to your breathing.
As you notice the bubbles.
As you watch.
And as your present.
The body.
Outside of the thinking mind.
May these tiny spheres of magic remind you that moments of presence,
Play,
And ease are always available.
Just one magical breath at a time.
May you be gentle with yourself and may you carry a little pocket-sized somatic pen.
Magical tool with you everywhere you go.
Remember that you are magic.
That you are medicine.
And that you are worthy just by being.
Thank you for joining me for this session.
I hope to see you again soon.
Take good care.
